In the game, after the orientation scuffle that resulted in both Zacard and Damion being relegated to Class A, she would become obsessed with dealing with Damion as he had caused Zacard, and by extension, her, to lose face.
Some of the methods she used include: attempted poisoning, honeytraps, assassination attempts, framing and falsifying evidence among other things.
One particular agregious thing she did was that she ordered the assassination of everyone in the orphanage Damion grew up in, including the matron who was like a mother to him.
This didn't even include the things she had been secretly doing to others, including her fiance and her cousin, without their knowledge.
All while wearing the face of a cute, kind and innocent girl.
So one could expect that Lucas wasn't too pleased to see her face here.
He obviously didn't let it show on his face though as he didn't want to end up on her hit list.
"Hello. I'm Lucas Estellan. A friend of your cousin's. It's nice to meet you too" He said, taking her hand.
"Well then, you two get along now. I have somewhere to be so I've got to go. See you guys later!" Marie said, running away.
Lucas and Leyla watched her as she left before ackwardly turning back to each other.
"So... Lucas, what class are you in?" Leyla asked, curiously.
"I'm in Class D, and you?" Lucas said.
A flash of disdain flickered through Leyla's eyes but it was gone as quickly as it had appeared, replaced by a pure and innocent smile.
"That's excellent!" She said. "I, myself am in Class S."
"I guess that means you'll be the one protecting me then." Lucas said, with the same innocent smile.
"I guess so." Leyla said, laughing. "I also guess that we'd better get to class soon or we're in serious trouble."
The duo began walking to class.
"So...uh..you said your last name was Estellan. Like the Marquis family, Estellan?" Leyla asked.
"Yes, why?" Lucas asked.
"Does that mean you're the infamous heir of Estellan?" She asked, her eyes glittering.
"Infamous?" Lucas asked, shocked.
He knew his predecessor's behavior and laziness was somewhat unbecoming of a noble but that shouldn't have made him so infamous that even the princess of the kingdom had heard about it.
"Oh, you don't know !?" Leyla said in surprise. "Forget I said anything then."
"No..no, go on. I'd really want to know why I'm considered infamous." Lucas said.
"Welllll, if you say so." Leyla said, embarrassed.
"I heard that a little under two decades ago, the Estellan family was in deep trouble after numerous failed ventures by their previous patriarch. The family was neck deep in debts and no one wanted anything to do with them. In fact, most were praying for their downfall."
"They eventually met a very wealthy merchant from Solkier who was willing to pay off their debts but in exchange, the new family head, Lucius Estellan, then a young 23 years old would have to marry his daughter and one of his grandchildren would have to become the hier of the family."
"No party besides the merchant was particularly happy with the arrangement because the Estellan family elders didn't really want a commoner to marry into their family and both the young family head and the merchant's daughter had someone else they wished to marry but in the end, the deal was made and a hier was born not long after."
"It's said that the family head and the merchant's daughter could hardly tolerate each other and have rarely ever been in the same room at the same time since then."
This info surprised Lucas. Not just because it was shocking but because he had no idea about it.
Well, from his perspective as a gamer, it made sense since because Lucas was more of a cannon fodder than anything else.
He had always discarded him as soon as he got better allies so it made sense he never knew his backstory.
The real question was why Lucas himself didn't know about his own backstory?
He hadn't inherited any memories of anything like that from him. In fact, he hadn't really inherited much memories of his parents at all.
Most of his childhood memories were of being in the big mansion alone with the servants, who absolutely doted on him.
It was quite easy to see how his predecessor would become lazy.
Anyways, I guess that explained his burning desire to impress his parents.
Seeing that Lucas hadn't spoken in a while, Leyla said, nervously. "We-well, it's just rumours anyways."
Lucas snorted inside.
As if I'd believe, you actually believe that. You're probably nutting in your pants at the sheer pleasure you got for dumping this "brutal" news on me.
"Yeah, I guess." Lucas said, shrugging.
The duo continued walking along ackwardly when out of the blue, Leyla said, "Hey, Lucas. What would you think of marrying into the Royal Family?"
If Lucas had been drinking anything, he'd have spit it out in astonishment.
"What!?" Lucas said.
"Is the idea of marrying into the Royal family that bad?" Leyla asked, with a dark face.
"No...no, it's just that.... don't you already have a fiance?" Lucas asked.
"Pffft, the marriage proposal isn't for me, it's for Marie." She laughed.
"Marie? Is this some kind of prank? Why would Marie want to marry me! Why didn't she propose herself? Is that why she ran away?" Lucas said.
"No, it's not that! It's just that... father has been planning to marry her off to some noble in Jazhad in exchange for a political alliance but the talks have just begun."
"So if a noble with enough standing like yourself got engaged to her, I doubt father would still force the marriage. I don't want to see her go to that god forsaken place, especially against her will." Leyla said.
Lucas thought about it.
In game, there was no mention of the king wanting to send off Marie to Jazhad but there also wasn't anything like Zacard and Damion being friends so things could have changed.
Again.
What was odd to Lucas however was that Leyla seemingly wanted to save Marie.
With everything he has seen of her in the game, he knew that wasn't a pure intention and that she was definitely up to something but what could it be!
