Chapter 1 - Origin

Busan Port — Midnight

A feeder ship eases into the harbor, its hull creaking against the dock. The air is heavy with smoke and the acrid scent of engine oil, slicking the ground in a cold, greasy sheen. In the distance, the sharp clang of metal rings out—workers hammering steel, sending bright sparks flying. Occasional bursts of fire sprinkle through the mist, mixing with the fog that clings to the night.

Dockworkers move with urgency, unloading large wooden crates stamped with Veda from the ship's hold and loading them into waiting trucks. The operation runs under the sharp eye of the port in-charge, who stands near the loading area, clipboard in hand.

Then, the deep rumble of an engine cuts through the noise—a black SUV rolls into the port. It stops near the loading zone, and four men in suits step out. One of them stands apart from the rest: dressed head-to-toe in black, dark shades hiding his eyes despite the night, a cigarette resting between his lips.

He walks toward the port in-charge, taking one last drag before flicking the cigarette aside. As he stops in front of the man, he removes his shades, his voice low and steady.

Lee: "Everything's in order? Not a single word about this consignment leaked… right?"

The port in-charge swallows, voice tight with fear.

Port In-Charge: "Y-yes, Mr. Lee… not a word."

Lee's gaze sharpens.

Lee: "Good. Now hurry. Get everything loaded before someone sees."

Port In-Charge: "Yes, Mr. Lee."

But before the next crate can be moved, the wail of sirens shatters the night. Armed Korean police storm the dock, weapons raised.

Police Officer: "Drop your weapons! Surrender, now!"

Lee's men draw their guns without hesitation, returning fire as they dive for cover. Bullets spark off steel containers. In the chaos, Lee turns and shoots the port in-charge in the chest.

Lee: "Get the trucks out! I'll hold them off. No matter what, those trucks don't get caught!"

His men hesitate for a split second before sprinting toward the vehicles, engines roaring to life as they tear out of the port.

Lee stays behind, laying down cover fire. One officer takes a round to the arm and stumbles back. But soon, Lee's gun clicks empty. Surrounded, the police close in.

Police Officer: "On your knees! Drop your weapon!"

A barrel is aimed directly at his head. Lee slowly raises his hands, his jaw tight, and kneels on the cold, oil-slick ground. Moments later, handcuffs click shut, and the police drag him away toward custody as the last echoes of gunfire fade into the night.

The next day...

National Police Agency, South Korea — Briefing Room.

The Korean National Police Agency (KNPA) held a meeting about the illegal consignment in the port.

Acting Commissioner chae Young-jun led the session, with archived photographs and intelligence reports. As he begins...

Yesterday, our men intercepted an illegal consignment being smuggled into Busan Port. Most of the shipment managed to slip away, but we succeeded in seizing a smaller portion that was left behind—and captured one of their members in the process. Unfortunately, during the operation, one of our own was injured.

Now, let me get straight to the point. The people behind this smuggling attempt belong to the Yang-Eun Group, led by late Shin Yang-Eun,later it was room over by his son. On the surface, this group is known for its shipping and construction enterprises. But beneath that polished façade lies something far more sinister.

They have been tied to numerous criminal activities—drug trafficking, illegal arms deals, pornography rings, underground gambling, loan sharking, and various illicit operations overseas. Yet, they've always managed to stay out of reach, protected by their deep political influence and connections.

To help you truly understand the scale of who we're dealing with, let me take you back to the roots of their history…

Commissioner chae traces the origins back to the early 1900s, under Japanese occupation. During this era, Korean street gangs emerged in defiance and chaos. But it was in the late 1930s that a formidable street brawler named Kang Du-han (image shown) unified the warring factions into a singular underworld force. These gangs ruled the streets with fists and fear—brawls, robberies, and extortion were daily business.

As World War II wreaked havoc and the Korean peninsula spiraled into political upheaval, many northern gangsters fled south. By the 1950s, Kang Du-han's gang had infiltrated politics itself. They were used by the government to silence left-wing sympathizers—by any means necessary.

"It was an unholy alliance of power and crime," said chae.

But in 1961, this pact was shattered. The government turned on its own shadows—executing key gang leaders and attempting to wipe the slate clean.

However, the criminal void wouldn't remain empty for long.

By the mid-1960s, a new kingpin rose: Shin Yang-eun (photo displayed). He seized control of Myeong-dong, turning it into a den of vice—casinos, drug trafficking, shady loans, and underground pornography, often in collaboration with Japan's Yakuza. His empire thrived into the late 1970s, and by the 1990s, his name was legend.

But power invites rivals.

In the late '90s, a brutal gang war erupted. The Yang-Eun group clashed with a rising faction backed by political allies of Kang Du-han's old regime—led by Cho Chang-jo and Oh Jong-cheol. For over a decade, Seoul bled in silence.

The war ended in tragedy and blood: Shin Yang-eun was assassinated—gunned down by Cho Chang-jo himself.

In the aftermath, his son, Shin Go-eun, took up his father's mantle. But the Yang-Eun group lost its grip, outmuscled by Cho's men. They rebranded as United Blood Nation (UBN) and formed alliances with local gangs, expanding their empire.

But vengeance was brewing.

Years later, Shin Go-eun launched a savage counterstrike. He and a loyal crew stormed Cho Chang-jo's mansion. What followed was massacre—Cho's heart was ripped out, and his men slaughtered. The streets whispered of retribution, and the Yang-Eun name rose again—stronger, meaner, more feared.

The UBN was crushed. And yet, amidst the chaos, after all this bloodshed, one question loomed:

Who made this possible?

All eyes turned to one man—a shadow within the shadows.

His name was Leo.

The son of Shin Go-eun. Raised in blood, feared by both friend and foe. A merciless beast, they called him. His brutality earned him the title: "The Most Violent Man."

Then, in 2014, Leo reportedly died in a mysterious warehouse fire.

But here's the twist: after Leo's death, the war stopped. The Yang-Eun and UBN factions declared a truce, drawing up a new code of conduct in the underworld.

"What did Leo do before he died? What did he know? What really happened that night?" Chae asked, letting the silence linger.

As chae finishes speaking, one of the officers raises a concern:

"This all happened over a decade ago. The Yang-Eun group buried the investigation using their political connections. So why are we digging up a case the world moved on from?

"Chae replies calmly but firmly:

"You raise a valid point, Officer Kim. But yesterday, our men caught the illegal consignment at the port, it was cocaine, worth billions. The man we arrested was lee Geun-hyung. Leo's friend.

Officer Kim leans forward.

"So what are you trying to say, Commissioner chae?"

Chae looks around the room, voice steady:

"I'm saying that if we can uncover their next move… their motive… and the truth about what really happened ten years ago — we have a chance to take down the Yang-Eun and UBN syndicates and end the crime in Korea once and for all.

Another officer cuts in, concerned:

"But Commissioner… how do you plan to do that? This is risky. If anything goes wrong, it could send shockwaves through the entire KNPA. Who's going to take responsibility for this case?"

Chae doesn't flinch.

"I'm fully aware of the risks and I've made the necessary arrangements. This case will be led by Inspector Kim Yoo-jung."

Miss kim,come in...

(The doors open. Inspector Kim steps into the room.)

"She's one of the best in the department. You all know her record she cracked the Bukhansan National Park serial killer case. Twenty-one victims. No mistakes."

Chae to miss kim...

"Inspector Kim, I'm entrusting this case to you. Don't let me down. Prove I made the right call."

Inspector Kim nods, eyes cold and focused:

"Yes, Commissioner chae. I won't fail you. I'll see this case through to the end and I'll make sure every last one of those Yang-Eun bastards ends up behind bars."

Chae closes the file in front of her.

"Good. That concludes the meeting."

The briefing room empties slowly. The fluorescent lights hum faintly as footsteps echo against polished floors. Commissioner Park remains seated, deep in thought. Inspector Kim Yoo-jung exits last, her heels clicking sharply.
