Chapter 4 - My Bestie

It was another dreaded day of going to school, and honestly, I really hated it. I hadn't even studied, yet I had a test waiting for me. The weekend had slipped by without me doing anything useful—just sleeping like a pig. Actually, scratch that—I was becoming a pig.

When I arrived at school, I saw my classmates scribbling down notes as if their lives depended on it. One of them looked up and asked, "Hey, did you write the Geography notes?"

I replied casually, "Yeah, I did… but my book isn't with me. Another friend borrowed it."

After sitting for a while, I got up and went to submit another book at the teacher's desk. Then, instead of heading straight back, I wandered over to my best friend's class. We started talking about random things things no one else knew. You know, secret and totally stupid stuff that only best friends could laugh about.

Talking to my bestie always helps me shake off stress. She has this way of saying, "You can do it, don't lose hope," that makes me believe I actually can. Having her in my life feels more valuable than anything.

She's one year younger than me 15 years old and she loves to read and sing. Oh my goodness, her voice is something else. It's so unique that everyone admires it… especially me. She's confident, never lets herself down, and always finds a way to encourage others.

"Hey," she nudged me that day, "stop looking so dead inside. You're going to ace your test."

I laughed. "Ace it? You mean face it."

She rolled her eyes. "Same thing. Now go write that exam like you own the place."

With her words in my head, I couldn't help but feel a little more confident, even though I knew I hadn't opened a single book all weekend.
