Chapter 3 - Bad Reputation

Reina Reigns

"I'm sorry, but could you please repeat that?"

I stood by the front desk at Sands Hotel. The receptionist gave me a look I hate. It was one showing sympathy. "I'm sorry, Ms. Reigns, but it's written here that they canceled your interview."

I glance at the several other women who sat in the waiting area doing random activities. Upon my arrival several minutes ago, I overheard two of them saying that they were there for an interview for the receptionist position, which is the same position I applied for out of the four open positions that were listed on the hotel's website.

"Why was my interview canceled?" I emphasize the word 'my' because mine was the only one canceled. The blonde woman frowns before she has the chance to say anything; I add, "Please, I need to know."

The woman sighed before making sure that the other women were out of hearing distance. "I can get fired for telling you this, Ms. Reigns, but it says here that your previous employer made a complaint about you regarding your unprofessional behaviour and lack of qualifications. He warns all the other employers in tourism to consider it thoroughly before they hire you-there is more, but I would rather not say."

A sudden panic seized me as I realized all hope was gone. This was what it felt like to hit rock bottom. I had only been honest with him. Sure, I told him where to shove his bonus, even so; that did not give him the right to do something so outrageous. Was he really that shallow? Working in the tourism business has always been my major interest, along with starting my business in fashion. I made myself believe I could achieve both.

"I'm sorry, Ms. Reigns." I glance at the woman who is giving me sympathetic looks before moving my eyes to the name tag she wore, which reads 'Gemma Edwards'.

"It's not your fault, and thank you for your generosity." I was about to leave when I remember a minor detail."Oh, and don't worry, I won't say anything that will jeopardize your job."

Gemma smiled apologetically, "Just a minute, Ms Reigns."

She reached under her desk to grab something, she then held it out to me. It was a blue business card that I stared at, confused.

"My boyfriend Drew Fernandez owns D.Z motor limited, and he needs a new secretary. It pays well and if you are interested, you can just call him. My number is also on the back, so you can let me know if you are interested, and I will put in a kind word for you."

I narrow my eyes at the curly hair blonde, wondering why the young woman who I just met would offer me something like this. Sure, she had previously told me confidential information that could cause her to lose her job, but why would she want me to work alongside her boyfriend?

"Are you sure?"

Gemma nods. "You need the job. In a world where men still rule dominant, we women have to look out for each other. It's the least I can do, besides you seem like a pleasant person."

I nod. Even though these are modern times, she was right. It wasn't as bad as the eighties, but men still had the upper hand. It was sick, but it is the truth, most didn't see us as equals. "Thank you, Ms. Edwards," I say, taking the card.

"Please, call me Gemma."

Giving her a smile, I nod. "Then it's only right for you to call me Reina."

Sitting with my legs cross on the sofa, I frown while reading my emails. Soon after reading one last email, I stared at the blue rectangular business card. Three days have passed since Gemma had given it to me, and I have been contemplating whether to take the job. The rent was due at the first of the month, and I have the utility bills to pay for this month. Thanks to Aaron, the utility bill was higher than normal, and with the addition of the rent, the total would go over my budget.

"Not to mention my own needs," I mumble to myself as I run my fingers through my chestnut hair that I am positive resembles a bird's nest.

My account balance was low. After paying all the bills, I will most likely go broke. Abruptly, Gemma's words come running through my head; all I want to do right now is go over to the office and give that cruel man a piece of my mind.

In less than a minute, I was grabbing money for taxi fare and pushing it into my pocket before making my way towards the exit.

Fourteen minutes later, I marched into Cesaro Mirza's office completely obvious to PA, Mikayla Eaton's glass cutter-like voice that calls after me repeatedly, saying that Cesaro was not in his office but at a meeting. Yet I ignored her like the plague that she has always been.

"Just who do you think you are?!"

It was crystal clear that Mikayla had been lying. Cesaro sat at his desk in all his glory; glaring at me because it seemed as if I had interrupted an important call.

"Mr Lee," He says, confirming my assumption that the call was important. Mr Lee is the company's lawyer. "I have to deal with an intruder. I'll call you as soon as I have everything under control," Cesaro says right before ending the call.

"You're despicable," I seethe.

He leans back in his chair leisurely. "Why am I cursed with your unwanted presence, Ms. Reigns?"

"I know you're slow, Mirza, but you know the reason I'm here. There was no need to make such an impudent decision just because I was truthful to you."

"I don't have time for subordinate conversations, especially one with a nuisance, so I suggest you get out of my office before I throw you out."

"Oh?" I say, taking a few steps until I was right in front of his desk. He stands from his chair and glares at me. "I am not leaving until you clear my name, so I'd like to see you try to even lay a finger on me."

Cesaro stares at me with a disgusted look clear on his face. That alone had me boiling in anger. Who does he think he is? Sure my hair looked wild and greasy since I hadn't bothered to wash it and my white T-shirt had pink stain marks, but that did not give Mister rich boy the right to look at me like that.

His glare was intense, but his words were calm and casual. "Crawl back to the hole you belong, Reigns. You do not belong here, and no matter how hard you try, you never will."

That was the last straw. I refused to tolerate that imbecile's disrespectful tone. He was not better than me, and he could not just treat people like this. Especially women wasn't it a woman who gave birth to his pathetic ass?

Grasping a glass pencil holder from his desk, I throw it along with its contents at his head.

He knew nothing about me, so who the hell gave him the right to judge me like that? I curse when the bastard dodges it, which makes it shatter to the ground in a million pieces. I really wish it had hit him. Maybe only then would he gain some sense and respect.

He stares at me in shock before narrowing his dark eyes as if he is ready to throw me down a flight of stairs. I honestly would not put it past him. My chest heaves up and down with rage. I would start crying not because his words hurt but because of anger.

There was a time in my life when someone got me so angry that I lost all control of my emotions, and it felt as if my brain suddenly stopped working. I did not recognize who I was. I had only come to terms with my actions when I saw the scared eyes of the girl that I had pinned to the wall by her neck. It would seem as if the devil himself had taken control of my body and I would release everything I got until I felt better, but deep down I fear what would happen if my anger reaches that point again. Would I be able to have control this time?

"Babe, what is going on in here? Are you ok?" someone says from behind me. I didn't hear anyone enter, but I'm glad someone interrupted us. This was my chance to leave before I did something that would no doubt land me in prison.

"Believe me when I say, next time I will not miss." Turning around, I did not spear the woman, not even a glance as I left.

Cesaro would pay. I will make his life a living hell if karma doesn't get to him first. I will make sure of it.
