Chapter 46 - Mr. Wolfe’s Woman

My heart stopped for a moment after realizing I was not simply assuming. It was truly a gunshot.

"You are safe."

His shaky breath hit the side of my cheek. When he pulled himself away, I noticed the blood stains on my dress, which frightened me to the core.

"Mr. Wolfe?"

I reached out for his hand but stopped my actions in the middle, wondering if I'd hurt him. My hands trembled in fear, looking at his bleeding state.

"What happened to you?" My voice quivered. "You are bleeding."

His gaze fell on his wound, and even in that state, his arrogant smile didn't leave him. "Bastards! They planned well this time."

He was fighting with himself from standing straight while his body started to lose its strength. His eyelids started to close, which made me sweat in fear.

"You should go to the hospital."

I turned around to take my cell phone to call the ambulance, but he stopped me by holding my hand. He slowly shook his head and spoke before losing his control, "I don't want to leave you…"

His chin rested on my shoulder while I hugged him tightly, trying to hold his heavy body.

"Mr. Wolfe!" A loud voice that hit my ears made me turn to my left. Alex, a doctor, and a few other guards rushed towards us and dragged him away.

My mind went blank. I could see them talking, or rather shouting, at each other, but I didn't hear anything. I pressed my palms together trying to stop my shivering, but I failed miserably. Even though my mind seemed to stop working, my feet dragged me to where they were taking him.

They didn't take him anywhere but to the room next to mine. On a giant bed, they placed him and arranged everything that was needed for a doctor to take the bullet out. As if they already had much experience in arranging everything when things like "Gunshot" happened. And also, the doctor didn't show any discomfort in treating him. It seemed he had already been acquainted with such things.

"Ms. Yung! You should leave." Alex's words fell into my ears.

Wiping away my tears that rolled down because of fear or some other emotion that I couldn't figure out, I asked, "What happened to him?"

My eyes fell on the doctor, who was piercing Mr. Wolfe's skin with his equipment, which led me to shut my eyes. The doctors, treatment, and equipment were not new for me, as Mira had always been surrounded by them, but the gunshot, blood, and the situation he put me in frightened me.

"Don't worry about him. Things like these are not new for us. It won't take much time."

"I am not worried for him." I gritted my teeth. "A single gunshot won't do any harm for monsters like him. What's more, I don't even care if something happens to him."

It was the most heartless thing I ever said. But only my heart felt the pain, which it chose to hide because I hated the fact that I was feeling something for the person who didn't bother about ruining my relationship with Matthew.

Alex's gaze darkened after hearing my words. In his angry tone, he said, "If you don't care about him, then why did you come here? Please leave."

When I didn't make any movement, he held my hand and dragged me out, forcibly. Only when we reached my room did he leave my hand and bow his head as a gesture of apology.

"You are Mr. Wolfe's woman. I shouldn't have touched you." His jaw clenched as he said, looking at me, "But you shouldn't have said those words to the man who was getting his treatment. Don't forget that your sister is alive because of him."

I shifted my gaze away, controlling myself from apologizing to him for my words.

"Ms. Yung! I have been with him since we both were young. I have known everything about him, including the fact that when he was shot, his first thought would be to go to the place where he deals with his mafia activities and get treated by his personal doctor, but today…" The anger in his eyes terrified me. "He didn't think about getting treated. He was only scared of the thought that this villa would be attacked even though he wiped out the enemy's entire clan. I had to bring the doctor here while Mr. Wolfe drove here to see you, but you…"

His words dumbfounded me. I never expected Mr. Wolfe to prioritize me so much. My stomach did a twist while my heart fluttered instead of feeling scared of the confirmation that Mr. Wolfe was truly a mafia man.

The look of disappointment was clearly visible on Alex's face. He then calmed himself down and said, "You may not care for him, but I do. So, please don't talk like that again."

After he left, I sat on the bed, processing his words. I didn't want to believe anything that he said, but I couldn't stop feeling it in my heart. I bit my lips wondering if everything he had been doing was not for the contract, then what for?

I put my hand over my chest, feeling the thumping of my heart, and I only wished for his speedy recovery.

The entire night, I couldn't sleep. A lot of times I walked to the next room, but I didn't dare to enter. My two contradictory thoughts, one that didn't want to show any sympathy and the other that cared for him, made it impossible for me to go anywhere near him.

However, in the morning, when everyone left the room, I entered only to see him sleeping peacefully. Without even going to the hospital, the bullet was taken out. What kind of people were they?!

I sat beside him and kept my gaze on the freshly treated wound. It upset me to see the scary wolf on the bed, looking like a hurt puppy.

"Why did you come here? What do you even want?" I held his hand. "I hate you, Mr. Wolfe. Don't take this hatred away from me."

The fresh air from the window and the silence around us started to make me drowsy. Resting my head on the headboard, I kept my gaze on him while my mind and body went into relaxation mode, making the darkness consume me.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself on the bed and Mr. Wolfe on the chair. Immediately, I sat straight, confused about how I ended up on the bed.

"It's a bad thing to steal the bed from an injured person." He scoffed.

Quickly, I tried to stand up, but he didn't let me.

"Don't run away, Elira."

I let out a sigh. "I am not running away. I wanted to check how you were doing, so I came here, but… I fell asleep. I didn't sleep on your bed…"

"I put you there." He interrupted me.

Silently, we both looked at each other for a few seconds. Breaking our gaze and the silence, I said, "I hope you are alright."

"Of course! Things like these won't do anything to me."

"What happened? Who shot you?" I asked, curiously.

He shrugged his shoulders, saying, "Recently, a gang formed to take over my city. At worst, they wanted the entire west. They ambushed every place of mine yesterday, but they failed to take control and ended up dead. Such fools to think they could kill me! But I have to appreciate their guts for coming directly to me instead of playing games with the gangsters who report to me."

I gulped at his words, and my eyes widened in shock after hearing him. There were rumors that the Wolfes were in charge of many business all across the western part. It startled me to know that it was not just a rumor.

How did I even end up with such a powerful mafia man?

"The west, the north, the east…" A lump formed in my throat. "They are not rumors."

"Small correction, babygirl. It's the West, the North, and the SEST. South and East."

I sat frozen while the echo of our conversation still rang in my ears. The air felt thicker and harder to breathe after knowing I signed the contract with the West monster, who we all believed was a rumor. My head spun, struggling to make a sense of it. He was not just dangerous. He was beyond it.

"Why did you tell me? Almost all of us know you as a rich businessman, that's it. I mean, things like these are complicated and confidential."

"True." He nodded his head. "That's why no one knows. Except my people."

His people? Was I his person?

His words and actions started to confuse me, and I didn't want to be more confused.

"Take rest. I should go." I tried to leave, but he held my hand, stopping me.

"Were you… worried about me?"

I took my hand out of his grip and said, desperate to go away from him as soon as possible, "I'd worry about anyone who came to me bleeding."

For a minute, he looked at me with an expressionless face, but then he shifted his gaze away. I didn't waste another minute and ran away.

It took me many days to digest the fact that I was not just involved with any businessman, but the top one in the hierarchy of the mafia circle. The rumors of a few families ruling all the countries with the gangsters assigned to every country to report them were not just rumors anymore. It was the fact. And I signed a contract with a man belonging to one of such families.

The notification on my cell phone interrupted my thoughts. It was from Matthew. Before I felt happy that I got his text, his message left me angry and frightened.

Matthew: Mr. Wolfe became our investor. Thanks for not ruining it.
