Chapter 34 - Jin & Garp

Snow drifted down like ashes from an old fire, dusting Windmill Village in quiet white.

Standing at the harbor's edge, Jin felt it first—a pressure, faint but unmistakable.

A monster's aura, rolling in slow over the waves.

His violet eyes flared, heart drumming. About damn time…

He turned, voice teasing yet soft. "Ki-nee-san, the snow's letting up. You'll wanna open soon."

Makino tilted her head, catching his gaze. "You look excited… your heart's racing again. Something good coming?"

Jin chuckled, warmth creeping into his grin. "Shit, you see right through me, huh? That's why you're the best gift this shitty world ever threw my way."

Her gentle smile answered him, sweet as spring rain. "Then go. Do what you need to, Jin. Just come home."

He stepped close, pressed a quick kiss to her forehead. "It's freezing—wear that fur vest I brought back. And yeah… I'll be back before dark."

Before she could scold him, he was already gone—vanishing into the swirling snow.

Fuck yes… this is it. Let's see just how far I've climbed in this world of monsters.

Windmill Village port.

Jin's figure balanced lightly atop the old lookout pole, a hundred feet up, coat whipping in the wind.

Beneath, the three-masted dog-head warship cut through the bay, hull heavy with sea‑salt scars.

His fingers brushed the hilt at his waist.

Finally… the "Fist of the Navy" himself. Time to see where the hell I really stand.

On deck, the old man stood out like a mountain in a graveyard.

Broad as two men, suit stretched over barrel chest, jaw square as granite.

At his heel toddled a kid no older than five—black hair, with a red shirt and a smile on hid face Luffy.

Garp's gaze lifted. His eyes locked on the lone figure atop the pole.

A grin split his craggy face. "East Blue, huh… quiet sea my ass. Always hiding monsters somewhere."

"Grandpa?" the kid piped up, tugging Garp's trouser leg. "What's so funny?"

"Bwahaha! Someday you'll get it, brat."

Gangplanks thudded down. Marines hustled cargo ashore. Villagers gathered, breath misting in the cold.

Jin watched from above, smirk curling.

So this is the so-called hero, huh? Garp the Fist. The bastard who traded family for duty. Admirable… pathetic… maybe both.

In the next blink, Jin was gone—disappearing into the snowy breeze.

Back at the bar, Makino wiped glasses, quiet hum on her lips.

Jin pushed through the door, snow in his hair.

"Hey, Ki-nee-san. Port's buzzing—hero Garp's back in town. Aren't you curious?"

She glanced up, smiling softly. "Word travels fast. And no, not really—he's from here, you know. Comes home every year."

Jin chuckled, grabbing a rag to help. "Guess tonight'll be lively. Plenty of Marines spending coin."

"Garp-san's a good man," she added, voice gentle. "People here love him."

We'll see about that, Jin thought, smirk twitching. A man loved by everyone often paid for it with more than they'd guess.

The bar doors slammed open. Cold gust, heavy boots.

Garp himself ducked inside, trailing snow.

"Bwahaha! Makino! Heard you finally found yourself a man—come on, let me see what poor bastard landed you!"

Makino flushed, half‑laughing. "Welcome home, Garp-san. And yes… it's true."

Jin stepped forward, lazy grin in place. "Been a while, old man."

Garp's brow furrowed, big hand still resting on the kid's shoulder.

"Ho? We've met before, kid?"

Jin's grin sharpened. "Not yet, maybe. But I've been waiting to."

Behind them, the kid peered up at Jin—round-eyed, curious, thumb hooking the straw hat's string.

So you're Luffy, huh?

Snow kept falling outside, quiet and cold.

Inside, two generations of monsters weighed each other—one grinning, one smirking, both knowing damn well what the other could become.
