Night had fully settled. The moon hung overhead, cold and unblinking, while the surrounding forest snarled with life: predators on the prowl, unseen wings beating the air, and distant roars echoing off ancient stone.
Under the gnarled branches, Jin stood shirtless, black combat trousers tucked into worn boots, his hands and forearms wrapped tight in old bandages. The moonlight caught his short black hair and turned his deep violet eyes into something almost inhuman. Despite the lean muscle covering his small seven-year-old frame, the baby fat still stubbornly clung to his face — something that pissed him off every time he caught his reflection.
He exhaled, a long breath like smoke in the night air.
"Damn it, I really didn't wanna fight at night. Too many motherfucking surprises out here. But hey—fuck it. Let's go."
In one fluid motion, Jin sprang from branch to branch, using raw power instead of stealth. Better to burn stamina than risk an ambush. His thoughts raced faster than his feet:
Two months ago that brute of a bear nearly caved my ribs in. Wonder if it's still hogging the Stargrass… Eating it to strengthen its hide and boost its blood energy. Like some fantasy novel beast guarding its treasure. God, this world's insane—and I fucking love it.
A guttural roar snapped Jin from his thoughts. He froze atop a branch, violet eyes narrowing.
"That's the bear… but what the fuck is the other voice? Sounds way bigger."
He dropped low, heartbeat pounding. Then, seeing the clearing, he couldn't help but mutter:
"Son of a bitch… that's a goddamn dinosaur."
The beast was monstrous — five meters tall, nearly ten meters long, gray scales banded with black stripes. Even compared to the towering bear, this thing was another level of nightmare. Jin's gaze shot back to the bear.
"And holy fuck, you grew. Two months and you're even bigger. The hell did you eat, Big Guy?"
He watched the battle for moments that felt like an eternity. The bear was getting shredded, forced back by the dinosaur's jaws and tail swipes. Jin clenched his teeth.
If the bear dies, I lose my chance at the Stargrass. And that dino bastard's too strong for me to take head-on… unless…
A grin, wolfish and reckless, spread across his face.
"Guess it's my turn to join the dance."
Jin launched himself, black combat boots smashing off bark as he hit top speed — faster than a grown man could track. In barely three seconds, he closed sixty meters and reached the dinosaur's side. With a roar of his own, he planted his feet and unleashed a slashing strike.
"Black Blade—Cut!"
Steel shrieked against scaled hide. The dinosaur howled, stumbling as blood sprayed from its leg. But the beast didn't fall; it swung around with raw fury.
"Shit!"
Jin barely dodged the gaping maw, but the monster's tail whipped toward him, whistling through the air. He raised his blade to block.
CRACK!
The impact launched him back, boots skidding through dirt, lungs seizing from the shock. He spat blood, vision swimming, but adrenaline surged, wiping the pain away.
"Motherfucker… that actually hurt."
The dinosaur lumbered closer, jaws dripping with spit. Jin threw his blade aside, body coiling.
"All right. Let's see if half a year of hellish training paid off."
He threw a fist. Muscles flexed, bones creaked, and his inner force ignited — driving power into a single devastating blow.
"Five Dragon Fist—Burst!"
The punch struck home, exploding compressed air across the beast's skull. The impact cracked bone, sending the dinosaur reeling. Jin didn't stop.
"Five Dragon Fist—Shock!"
He twisted, driving a follow-up punch deeper. Vibrations surged into the monster's brain, rattling its mind into ruin. The dinosaur gave a last shudder and dropped, thunder shaking the ground as it fell dead.
Jin staggered back, gasping, every muscle screaming in protest. His skin was flushed red, veins standing out like ropes.
Fuck… forced out too much inner force. Not at the next stage yet. Can't keep this up.
From behind, the bear — Big Guy — watched him, chest heaving, blood matting its fur. Jin turned, forcing a smirk.
"Don't look so damn scared. I killed the big bastard for both of us."
The bear backed away, lowering its head in submission. Jin's smirk twisted into a grin.
Smart. Knows who's boss now.
But the thrill faded fast. His breath was ragged, his core felt empty, and the Stargrass lay ahead — only four plants left.
"You greedy bastard," he cursed toward the bear. "A whole field, and you left me with scraps."
Still, he dug carefully, sliding the glowing herbs into a pouch. His thoughts buzzed.
One of these can break the barrier around my core. But fuck it — why wait?
Back at his hidden shelter, Jin sat cross-legged. He swallowed a stalk of Stargrass, heat searing through his veins like molten iron. His whole body clenched, skin reddening, every muscle tensing as if it would rip free.
Pain. Agony enough to black out lesser men. But Jin was a mercenary king in soul, even trapped in a child's body.
Break, damn you…
He drove the raging energy into the invisible wall deep within — the barrier sealing away the full potential of his inner force. Again and again, the energy slammed into it, each impact threatening to tear him apart.
"Fuck it… two more!" he rasped, shoving two more stalks into his mouth.
The power roared like a hurricane. Blood leaked from his nose and eyes, but he forced it, channeling everything into one final assault.
"BREAK, YOU SON OF A BITCH!"
Something shattered inside, silent but final. A wave of clarity flooded him. Jin gasped, smiled — and collapsed backward into blackness, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth.
His last thought before passing out was pure triumph.
I did it…
