Chapter 1 - Exile

"Get out." He said as I fell deep into the snow, the door slammed shut behind me. My family, who once held me as their prized possession now threw me away as if I were nothing more than a burden.

The snow stung my skin, as I lay there on the frosted ground, my thin clothes barely protected me from the merciless winter.

I rushed back to the door I had just been thrown out of, hopelessly banging on it, my knuckles bled with each hit. My hand went from slamming the door to helplessly turning its handle. My efforts were all in vain. The door didn't even budge.

It was only after a while when I gave up, I turned away from the manor, looking around for any other chance of survival; food, shelter. I'd take anything at this point.

I decided to wander around the surrounding area, searching for a place to rest my legs, dragging my short legs through the heavy snow had taken a toll on them.

In the distance, I saw what seemed to be a brown spot in the endless white, and as I squinted through the snow, I saw a brown shed, its walls barely standing, its roof sagging under the weight of the piled-up snow.

I hurried inside. It was pitch black, but at least it was warmer than the storm outside. I sank onto the wooden planks that lined the floor, they creaked under my weight.

I must have fallen asleep on the floor. When I got up and opened the door, the snowfall had stopped and the sky was much brighter. This would probably be my best chance to get out of this place.

The snow was even deeper now, but with a good night's rest and a new day, I found the strength to say goodbye to my old home and trek onward, in hopes of finding somewhere I could stay.

In the distance I could make out a faint light, it wasn't much, but it was my only choice when it came to finding a place where I would be safe.

It felt like I had been walking for ages. The house behind me had vanished into the fog, and before me stretched an endless field of white. My pace began to slow, my legs growing weaker with each step, until I sank face-first into the snow.

My vision faded into black, and when the world returned, I was no longer in the snow. I was standing in a dark room, completely alone. The air held still as I heard the unsettling sound of something crawling around me. I froze, too afraid to look down.

"This is just a dream, everything's okay." I whispered to myself, hoping the words would give me the strength to endure. Then I felt it— thousands of tiny legs swarming over my skin as they crawled up my body.

I screamed as my eyes shot open, I found myself back in the snow, back where it was safe. That was when I saw a shadow stretching over my body. Someone was standing next to me.
