"Tony, find a way to calm him down! My hammer can only hold him back for so long!" Thor swung Mjolnir, calling down thunder to smash into Hulk's body. But lightning that could split mountains only slowed Hulk for a moment—then it just fueled his savagery even more.
Hulk grabbed the barrel of a nearby tank like it was nothing and whipped the entire tank around like a toy, hurling it straight at Thor in the air.
A red-and-gold figure shot past at extreme speed, ramming the tank off-course—but the impact sent him tumbling away as well. Iron Man was wearing the latest model of Hulkbuster armor. Even so, the giant suit designed specifically to handle a rampaging Hulk was already battered to hell: the chest plate caved in, and the hydraulics in its arms kept venting white steam.
"Calm down? Try reasoning with a volcano overloaded with gamma radiation!" Tony's voice came through the helmet, sharp with frustration. "JARVIS, analyze his energy readings—this isn't right. His strength is still climbing!"
"Sir, Mister Hulk's internal gamma radiation level has exceeded the historical peak on record and is highly unstable. Probability of conventional suppression methods failing: 97.3%," the AI butler reported, calmly delivering the bad news.
Hulk clearly wasn't going to give them time to analyze anything. He kicked off the ground and his massive body launched like a cannonball at Iron Man.
Tony threw up both arms to block, but Hulk's punch carried a force that crushed everything in its path. The Hulkbuster emitted a teeth-grinding shriek of twisting metal and was smashed flying again, crashing through three buildings before it finally stopped.
Thor roared and dove down, Mjolnir coming down with overwhelming force toward the back of Hulk's head.
Hulk reacted like he had eyes in the back of his skull—he swung around and punched the hammer head-on.
"BOOM!"
A spherical shockwave exploded outward, shattering every remaining window nearby. Thor was blasted high into the air by the recoil, his grip going numb—he almost lost the hammer.
Hulk only shook his head, the green glow in his eyes burning even hotter.
He stopped paying attention to Thor. His bloodshot eyes locked onto a residential building not far away—one where civilians still hadn't evacuated.
Up in the windows, several kids were hiding behind the glass, staring in terror at the green giant.
Destruction won.
Hulk let out an excited roar, drew back his enormous fist, and was about to smash the building into rubble.
Tony had just crawled out of the wreckage. The moment he saw it, his eyes went wide with horror.
"No!!" But it was too far he couldn't stop it.
Thor was diving as hard as he could too, but he was clearly not going to make it.
And at that exact, razor-thin moment…
A figure suddenly appeared between Hulk and the apartment building.
A yellow jumpsuit looked almost ridiculous in the swirling dust. A bald head reflected a faint glint under the sunlight.
It was Saitama.
He seemed like he'd simply wandered over. He stared at the mountain-sized green monster, and at the fist about to fall like an earthquake, with no expression—only a slight frown.
Hulk's punch slammed down with the intent to crush everything.
The target was that tiny obstacle in the way.
And then
The fist stopped.
Caught by a single hand in a plain red glove like it was nothing.
Time seemed to freeze.
