Chapter 8 - Born of the Spirit

The episode that revealed his future showed a battle between orcs and goblins. And he was surrounded.

"No point in having magic if my mana pool can't keep up against all of those... Now... what to watch?"

[Due to the effect of Ambrosia, Time has slowed by up to fifteen times while Celestial TV is on. Exiting will cancel Celestial TV is on. Exiting will cancel Ambrosia's effect. Exit anyway?]

[Time Remaining: 3h:22m]

[Total available time watching TV: 50 hours:30m]

Thane was amazed.

"Watching 50 hours worth of Celestial TV would only be three hours thanks to the fruit? I can't waste it now..." Thane sighed. He was in dangerous circumstances, but he cannot waste such a blessing!

Thane sighed, rubbing his face.

He was thinking of a means to head back to civilization. If there was a battle brewing between him and the dragon, he needed to get to town to warn everyone or get stronger.

"The merc group," he recalled.

"If they're still alive, I need to find them!"

Though the mercs treated him as a slave, they fed him, didn't beat him, at the very least. And they were the closest thing he had to family.

"Alright. I have one day. So I'll binge-watch and see what I can learn from Get Fit and finish watching whatever the History channel has!"

Thane accessed the Get Fit! Fantasy Channel.

There were a total of five shows available. The rest were still greyed out.

"Hm... I guess I need to grow stronger and gain more rewards to watch those shows...

Thane scrolled down the glowing list. The screen flickered and lined up five thumbnail previews with flashy fantasy-themed trailers that played on loop as he hovered over each title. Several more were still greyed out.

"I can only access a few shows on this channel, huh?"

[1. Monster Crunch: The Fitness Regimen of Champions]

As Thane hovered his selection over the show, the preview was displayed.

Ripped orcs lifted boulders in rhythmic sequence while orc instructors barked orders and an orc task master whistled encouraging notes.

A warning caption was found below.

[Following the regiment and exercises of this show will cancel the time dilation effects of Celestial TV]

"Okay, that's a no," Thane muttered.

"And that's useless since following this will cancel the time dilation effect..."

[2. Swordplay for Scrubs – Volume 1: Stop Hitting Yourself]

A cocky elf demonstrated disarming techniques against clumsy goblin trainees. One of them accidentally stabbed his foot.

"Yeah... definitely not starting here."

[3. Spirit Energy 101: Harness Your Inner Power]

A serene landscape appeared with glowing waterfalls, floating lotus petals, and a white-haired monk meditating while stone pillars floated around him.

The narrator spoke calmly.

"Discover the art of internal flow. Master your breathing. Command the unseen rivers of power inside your soul. Learn the art of yoga and harness the pinnacle form, Yoga Fire."

"That... actually sounds nice. I could use some peace after the whole dragon chase. And Yoga fire... nice. I didn't know Dhalsim's technique was legit Yoga stances..."

[4. Sword & Soul: Learn the Sacred Blade Forms]

A blazing battlefield. A knight slashed through rows of enemies while flame effects erupted around his strikes. The program promised:

"Learn the basics of sword aura. Eventually learn to cut steel, fire, or time itself."

"I guess I'm going to be a swordsman soon... Oh well, being a Knight is every man's romance!" Thane smiled.

[5. Bullseye Basics: Range Weapons in a Magic World]

A goblin archer fired six arrows at once while blindfolded. A caption in bold flashed underneath:

"If you have fingers and eyes, you can do this. Just make sure no one else is within view."

"This isn't valuable at this time." Thane thought.

He hovered back over Spirit Energy 101.

"Meditation sounds like a good place to start. Low risk, possibly high reward. Plus, sitting still and breathing is something I'm already good at!"

He clicked it.

[Selected: Spirit Energy 101 – Episode 1: Find Your Flow]

The channel filled the screen, displaying a tranquil bamboo forest with glowing fog. A calm voice greeted him, sounding like it had been echoing through eternity.

But as Thane looked at his teacher, he saw a rather large man. Not a monk, but a barbarian!

"You are now walking the Path of the Inner Current. Breathe. Focus. Feel the rhythm of your life... Still your body until all that you can sense is that which is outside of your senses. The spirit!" The monk spoke without any greeting.

Thane frowned but shrugged and decided to ignore the size of his teacher. He exhaled slowly and closed his eyes.

"That doesn't look like a monk... Oh well, do not judge... I guess I'll do just follow what he said...." Thane nodded.

The soft sounds of flowing water and wind filled the room. A glowing spiral appeared on the screen in front of him, guiding his breathing. Slowly, Thane's chaotic thoughts began to quiet.

"...Huh?"

Thane was startled. There was something that he felt in the quietness of his thoughts.

He could feel the air pass through his lungs. He could feel his blood rushing all over his body.

And at that moment, there was a faint sensation. A faint feeling of what he knew to be...

"Spirit!"

[Supreme Perception]

Thane recalled his ability.

"Wow! So this is it...!"

"Find your flow. This is the hardest obstacle. One cannot cross the sea if one cannot swim. But to sense the spirit? It's akin to soaring to the heavens! And to do so, you will need to learn to fly! And to fly, one must be reborn... The wind goes where it pleases, to whence it came, and where it goes, you cannot know. So it is to those who sense the Spirit!"

Thane chuckled.

"I see what you did there... Quoting John 3... But I guess with Supreme Perception, I already got my wings and now I can fly! Or to put it in His Words, I am already born of the Spirit!"

Thane followed the orders of the teacher on the TV.

He didn't know exactly what Spirit Energy was. But if it could help him survive this fantasy world and possibly not die the next time a dragon looked his way, he was all in.

Unknown to him, he was practicing a powerful Spirit Art, and the teacher appearing on screen was the greatest Spirit Energy master that Velithra had seen! His teacher was among the greatest champions of Gravulkar, who had fallen into battle after accomplishing legendary deeds! Medoroth the Tower Breaker!
