Lunch has finished and everyone has completed their activities for the week.
'Settle down and listen up' I wait for the mess hall to go silent before I talk.
'You need to go back to your cabins, bag a change of clothes and pyjamas, then pack up your things together ready for the morning'
We usher the students along then I go back to my cabin and bag up some clothes for tomorrow, I pack everything else into my suitcase then finish my coffee.
Once finished I throw the coffee cup into the bin, grab my bag and leave my cabin. I go to the boys cabins and blow my whistle three times. Doors open and the boys file out.
'You have 5 minutes to be ready, meet by the mess hall' I walk off swiftly.
Reaching the outside of the mess hall I sit down and wait.
'Mr Sinclair would you mind helping me get the girls to get a wriggle on' Miss sin asks
'Sure' I say curtly and stand up. We walk together to the girls cabin area and I blow my whistle three times. It's not long before doors start opening and heads pop out.
'Come on girls, outside' I shout. The girls file out, standing by their cabins.
'You have 2 minutes to get your things and be outside the mess hall, chop chop' I bellow. The girls shuffle into their cabins so we walk back to outside the mess hall. Students are already here.
I check my watch, it's time.
'Listen for your names' Mr lye shouts then starts calling his register, Miss sin goes next then it's my turn. Once everyone is accounted for I call
'Grab your bags let's go'. Everyone gets up and we all walk through the forest.
We reach the camp ground 15 minutes later. The tents are already up.
'Girls you're in red tents, boys you're in blue' Mr lye shouts. The girls walk to the right and the boys walk to the left where their tents are allocated.
I go to the black tents and choose the one closest to the girls. Abby's tent is two away from mine. I drop my bag in then walk outside. I sit down on a log around the fire pit and help Colin get the fire started.
Mr lye and Miss sin usher the students out and they pile around the fire that's now lit.
Miss sin hands out marshmallows on sticks and we toast them on the fire. We play games like duck duck goose and quick fire questions.
When it hits 6pm Clare and joey fire up a barbecue. I get sausage in a roll with mustard and ketchup. We all sit in comfortable silence eating. When we're finished we sing campfire songs until it gets dark and the sun has set.
'Right, bed' Mr lye shouts. Everyone gets up and heads to their tents.
I walk to mine and crouch to get inside. I remove my shoes and top then I crawl into bed.
Half an hour later my tent opens. I look up to see Abby. She then asks shyly.
'Can I stay for a while? I'm not a fan of camping'
'Come here' she crawls over to me and I pull her on top of me, I cradle her to my chest. She snuggles into me and it's not long before I hear her light snores. I'm not kicking Abby out, she came to me to feel safe.
I fall asleep shortly after.
