Chapter 35 - Home/the week

After dropping abby home I make myself some carbonara. I eat while marking at my dining room table. I've nearly caught up. When I'm done I wash my plate and cutlery, put them away then head off to bed. It's been a long day.

My phone starts ringing. I groggily whip out my arm and peek at the bright screen.

It's Abby!

I'm wide awake now, I swipe the screen and put the phone on to loud speaker. I don't even get a chance to speak before Abby's sobbing down the phone.

'can you, can you come over'. I shoot out of bed, throw on jeans and a T-shirt, slip into some sliders, grab my keys and get in my car.

I drive over to Abby's house, park up and walk over to her door. The doors slightly ajar,

'Abby' I call out.

'In here' she calls. I step in closing the door behind me. I find Abby in the lounge curled up in a ball on the sofa bed with a hot water bottle. She's crying. I rub her back, she's in pain, he face is pale and she's shivering. Her folder listed her medical conditions. Abby has asthma and polycystic ovaries, I know she's started bleeding 'you want some pain killers'

'I've had some' she's quiet for a moment then asks tentatively,

'can you hold me, it hurts' I strip down to my boxers and lay down beside her pulling over the blanket so she's warm. I wrap my arms around her, cocooning her in my embrace. She cries for a little while then she drifts off to sleep. It's not long before I join her.

At 6am my alarm goes off. I'm supposed to be running a revision session this morning. Abby stirs and wakes. While I turn the obnoxious thing off. She lays there staring at me.

'Sorry baby, I didn't mean to wake you' I whisper. I log onto my email and message Mr Halt.

- sorry for the short notice but I won't be in for the remainder of the week I have come down with the sickness bug. Please can you arrange cover.

It's utter bullshit but Abby needs me.

I put my phone on the side table, grab the hot water bottle and go refill it.

I slide back into the bed handing the bottle back to Abby. She smiles softly.

'thanks sir'. I smile back then wrap my arms around her again. I coax Abby back to sleep. She's lightly snoring. When I receive a reply

- not to worry, I hope you feel better soon. Please let me know if you can't chaperone for the trip next week.

.....

The rest of the week has flown by. I've been making food three times a day, buying chocolate and ice cream and making sure Abby's as comfortable as she can be. This week has shown how much I truly feel for Abby. I think I've fallen in love with her....
