Right when things were finally settling sun shining, birds singing, snacks opened
I did what any self-respecting girl shouldn't do.
I fell.
Not just a cute little trip.
A full-on, dramatic, arms-flailing, slow-mo tumble... because of a rock. A stupid, invisible, mother-of-all-embarrassment rock.
My picnic basket went flying. My glasses (yes, I wear glasses when I need to look smart) almost fell off. And I?
I hit the grass like a movie extra who didn't get paid enough.
My soul left my body for a full second.
"Suzie!" Elena gasped.
"You okay?" someone shouted.
But before I could die from public humiliation. I opened my eyes...
And there he was.
Marco.
Literally hovering over me like a freaking movie hero, his face blocking the sun. He looked like a Greek god with a hoodie.
"You okay?" he asked, calm, low voice, a little concerned.
I stared at him.
Then blinked.
"Totally." I croaked. "Just checking if gravity still works."
He smiled. He. Smiled.
Kill me now.
I sat up fast, trying to pretend I wasn't dying inside.
"I do this all the time." I added. Why did I say that? Why did I say that?!
"Falling?"
"Yep. Hobby."
"Nice.
I swear I saw his eyes sparkle. Or maybe that was just my brain glitching.
Elena ran up behind me and whispered. "Girl... did you just fall into his arms on purpose?"
"No." I hissed. "But if you tell anyone, I'll throw you into the river."
"You're welcome for the moment." she grinned.
And just like that. I was now the girl who fell. Great.
