Marcus stroked his chin, his gaze fixed on the skill displayed on the system panel. This was only the second time he had drawn a skill; the last had been the invaluable Energy Feedback. Like Energy Feedback, this Psionic Teleportation originated from the Protoss in the StarCraft Universe. However, it didn't come from a master Psychic like the High Templar, but from the Apostle, an all-female unit. As the saying goes, one can never have too many skills. Marcus didn't hesitate and immediately chose to learn it.
A new mark, representing the Apostle, appeared momentarily on the back of Marcus's left hand, then faded from view. Feeling the faint sensation of the mark, Marcus activated Psionic Teleportation. A light blue Psychic Projection instantly materialized before him. Marcus observed the projection with interest, noticing that it had even replicated all the intricate details of his equipment. Unfortunately, the Psychic Projection itself had no attack power and couldn't manipulate objects. Otherwise, if it could carry a melta bomb, it would make for an excellent suicide bomber.
Marcus began to control the Psychic Projection. Under his mental command, the projection floated out of the tram at an astonishing speed. "If anyone nearby saw this, they'd probably be scared half to death," Marcus muttered, looking at the eerie, ghost-like projection. Ten seconds later, the teleportation triggered. Marcus felt only a flash of white light before he instantly found himself at the Psychic Projection's location.
Next, Marcus thoroughly tested the Psychic Projection. He found that it could only float in the air and move, unable to perform any other actions. Despite this limitation, Marcus was already very satisfied. After all, it was a short-range instant movement skill that would greatly enhance his battlefield flexibility. What's more, it also had a damage-increasing function and allowed him to independently choose whether to teleport. Overall, Marcus was quite satisfied with both the Shield and the Psionic Teleportation he had acquired.
After testing Psionic Teleportation, Marcus prepared to re-board the tram. Just then, a violent tremor suddenly rocked the Ishimura. Once the shaking subsided, Marcus looked towards the stern of the ship. "Is it really necessary to make such a big fuss just to repair a ship?" he couldn't help but grumble. Presumably, this was the commotion caused by Isaac when he restarted the Ishimura's engine. After waiting a moment and confirming no further activity, Marcus boarded the tram and selected his destination: the Bridge.
The Bridge area was located at the bow of the Ishimura, approximately a kilometer away from the Hydroponics area, which was situated above the stern. Soon, the tram arrived at the Bridge area station. Stepping off the tram, several eager Necromorphs lunged forward. The Shield floating beside Marcus actually recoiled, hiding slightly behind him in apparent fear. However, it still dutifully deployed an Energy Shield, blocking the Necromorphs' attacks.
Marcus was a bit speechless. Certain units of the Titan Empire allowed Earth Caste engineers to install self-preservation protocols on their drones, enabling these drones to self-assess danger and choose a tactical retreat. The Shield beside Marcus was clearly operating under such a protocol. It was actually afraid and retreated due to the terrifying Necromorphs; its intelligence level was simply too high. His Psychic Flying Knife unsheathed, quickly dispatching these few Slashers. Stepping over the burning, magically-flamed corpses, Marcus left the tram station and began to advance into the Bridge.
After dealing with a few wandering Necromorphs, Marcus passed through a locked door and arrived at the Bridge Hall. Compared to the narrow corridors elsewhere on the ship, the Ishimura's Bridge Hall was quite spacious. However, the control panels, which should have been bustling with crew members, were now eerily empty. After scanning the vacant Bridge Hall, Marcus prepared to head to the Captain's Quarters.
It was at this moment.
"Roar!!!"
A tightly closed door behind Marcus suddenly emitted a loud crashing sound. Looking back, the door had been violently deformed by the impact and was soon completely burst open. A massive, gorilla-like Slasher—a Brute—roared and charged out from behind the door. Marcus raised an eyebrow, observing the Brute hurtling towards him. He first created some distance. Then, he calmly unleashed his newly acquired skill, Psionic Teleportation.
The blue Psychic Projection met the Brute, then passed through its thick body, applying a damage-increasing buff to the creature. Just as the Brute's fist was about to strike, the ten seconds elapsed. Marcus was instantly teleported to the location of the Psychic Projection. Marcus immediately opened his system panel and released the zoanthrope. A dazzling Psychic beam erupted from the zoanthrope, shooting directly at the Brute's back, where it had little armor protection. With a series of smooth combos, more than half of the Brute's body was instantly blown away.
Marcus didn't stay idle either, taking the opportunity to apply a "Corruption" effect to the Brute's remaining body with his Psychic Flying Knife. Then, in cooperation with the zoanthrope, he completely annihilated the Brute. The Brute, which could threaten units of the Tyranid Warrior level, thus easily fell at Marcus's hands. After confirming the Brute was completely killed via the system panel, Marcus then released Psionic Teleportation again, controlling the Psychic Projection to float towards the Captain's Quarters. Besides enhancing flexibility in combat, the Psionic Teleportation skill was also an invaluable tool for daily travel. Ten seconds later, Marcus instantly moved to the entrance of a small elevator.
Entering the elevator, Marcus began to descend to the lower level. Stepping out, in front of the Captain's Quarters door, was a small area equipped with escape pods. "Placing the escape pods so close to the Captain's Quarters, there's no spirit of 'the ship is here, the crew is here; the ship is gone, the crew is gone' at all," Marcus muttered to himself. Compared to the captains in the Warhammer Universe, those of the Imperium of Man who would often commit suicide by ramming their ships or self-destructing before death, these captains in Dead Space still had much to learn.
Looking at the tightly closed Captain's Quarters door before him, Marcus directly had the zoanthrope by his side take action. A Psychic attack blasted out, blowing the door away with a single strike. After stepping into the Captain's Quarters, through the window, Marcus immediately saw the yellowish-brown planet in the distant void—Aegis VII.
