Chapter 145: Heated Discussions Among Players
The release of the promotional trailer for It Takes Two has generated a lot of attention. In addition to Nebula Games' fans, there is also a large number of ordinary players. This is largely because everyone was experiencing a game drought during this period. There weren't many outstanding games that would excite players.
As the company that created last year's Dark Souls, Nebula Games, along with its numerous minor titles, has generated brand trust among many players. While it is not yet a guaranteed masterpiece, Nebula has a loyal fan base.
After watching the promotional trailer posted by Alex and Nebula Games' official blog, many players were stunned. This included game designers who followed Alex's actions. They realized it was not what they had imagined!
Instantly, countless players who had seen the It Takes Two trailer were excited about the discussion on the forums.
"It feels completely different from Alex's Overcooked last year!"
"Yeah! Although the game's style is still cartoonish, the content seems much richer than Overcooked. Is it an action-
adventure game?! Wow! Does that mean it's a big production?"
"And looking at the content, it's just two players who take on the roles of a man and a woman, overcoming obstacles to advance? You know what! It really lives up to the title!"
"From the introduction, it seems that a couple, after a breakup, turn into clay and wooden dolls, and then have to mend their relationship and become human again. The content seems incredibly rich! Just from the trailer, it seems to encompass all genres: RPG, FPS, and even racing. Incredible!"
"That's right! This game seems to have a lot of gameplay and content!"
When Alex posted the trailer and related information for It Takes Two, it caught the attention of many players. The trailer's art style looked very cinematic, with an anime aesthetic. The content itself combined platforming, parkour, dodging, racing, shooting, and puzzle-solving.
It was completely different from what they had imagined: Valentine's Day, couples' collaboration, warmth, and friendship. All the tags that Alex mentioned at the beginning reminded them of Nebula Games' Overcooked, which was released around this time last year.
Although many players jokingly called it "Breakup Kitchen," it is undeniable that the game sparked a huge boom in the popularity of cooperative games, even spawning numerous similar casual games.
Even without mentioning it, many players subconsciously linked Nebula Games' new release to Overcooked. But after seeing the It Takes Two trailer, they realized that the connection was completely wrong!
Although players were surprised, they soon discovered another message from Alex's official Twitter account. This one detailed It Takes Two's features:
"It was originally going to be a Valentine's Day surprise for all players, but unfortunately, it is 20 days late."
"This is a unique adventure game where you and your best friend embark on the wildest adventure of your lives."
"This is an interactive two-player game, with a story that revolves around an animated film. Players must collaborate to overcome difficulties and experience all kinds of humor and chaos, but the only thing that can be confirmed is that two people working together can achieve great things."
"As a two-player game, It Takes Two does not require both players to buy it. As long as one player buys it, he can invite his partner to play for free.
"The game costs $29.20!"
After the announcement, Alex's official blog was quickly filled with player comments.
"Alex, you are very considerate! A late Valentine's Day surprise, you are incredible!"
"Think about last year's Overcooked and this year's It Takes Two. Alex, are you really trying to cultivate Nebula Games' annual product?!"
"23333333, a couples' game every year. Last year's couples' game was a couple killer, so I wonder what this year's It Takes Two will be like."
"But I think it should be quite interesting. And unlike Overcooked, this game seems to have a story as one of its main features."
"By the way, have you noticed? You only need to buy one copy to play, but it's also not cheap. $29.20. Many players have already discovered something after reading Alex's official blog entry.
First, it indirectly revealed the game's release date.
Additionally, it revealed that the game is actually an adventure game, not a casual simulation like Overcooked.
What caught many players' attention was that, unlike the previous Overcooked buy-one-get-one-free promotion, only one player needs to buy the game and invite others to play.
This is much more profitable than buying one and getting one free. For example, with Overcooked, you buy one and get one free, but if you want to play with someone who doesn't have the game, you have to buy another copy. This is not a problem with It Takes Two. Once you buy the game, you can play with whoever you want; the decision is yours.
However, the price also surprised many players: It Takes Two costs a whopping $29.20. And considering the prices of many previous Nebula Games titles, there is only one explanation.
The key conclusion is that It Takes Two will be quite large, at least larger than previous titles like Valiant Hearts: The Great War and To the Moon. Otherwise, Nebula Games would not have offered such a high price.
Players are more focused on the game's content. While there is a promotional trailer, it is not a live game demo, so it is difficult to say what the game will be like.
The only connection players could make is that Alex also co-developed the game Overcooked last year. However, the two games are clearly different in genre and scale. Nevertheless, thanks to Nebula Games' long-standing reputation and the Game of the Year awards ceremony held earlier this year, Alex's reputation has spread significantly.
Most players, after learning about It Takes Two, have shown great interest. This is undoubtedly due to the recent game drought.
Additionally, Alex has clearly stated that it is a cooperative game that requires two players.
Some interested players have started forming groups and looking for partners.
