Chapter 54 - Future proofing

"Unfriendliness I can handle on my own. My concern is the lengths the pure bloods might go to out of some absurd sense of jealousy or bigotry." I said honestly.

I truly meant it too as merely being isolated would eventually be fixed as my possible stock from other worlds becomes available. The real problem came from those stuck with the idea that because they had "pure" blood and I didn't they should be better, more talented and richer than me. For the mild ones that would perhaps hurl insults or seethe angrily at me I could ignore. -

The real problem came from those that wouldn't accept it and take action to "deal" with me. Perhaps not kill me exactly but cripple or frame for a crime? Nobility doesn't have a great track record in these affairs after all and my concern was quite valid. The worse part however is that I know if I ever fell into such a trap I'd not go to Azkaban for very long if at all. I was a logia user and I guarantee if a mere Animagus could escape from that place a logia would have it much easier.-

Especially me since I had lightning as my power. The very air was filled with electromagnetic waves at all times. Using those in elemental form I could fly through the sky at speeds the naked eye couldn't follow. Being given the Sirius Black treatment because of a frame job was something I'd very much like to avoid if possible however. -

"Would not showing these new abilities to others not suffice?" Flitwick asked and I shook my head.

"At that point I may as well not have them at all. It would be like asking you not to ever cast another spell in front of someone else ever again." I said seriously.

"I'm afraid young Alex is correct. Hiding away ones gifts to avoid persecution tends not to end well. Case in point, Obscurus. Though perhaps there is a more moderate option here. Rather than hiding it young Alex could instead limit his usage of it in front of others. To his peers mere parlor tricks but the truth known only to him and us." Dumbledore suggested.

"What of the ministry? Surely such an ability would need to be documented in case it ever appears in another, perhaps even his own descendants?" Mcgonagall questioned seriously.

"That won't be necessary for now. I have no intention of pursuing even the faintest notion of romance for many years if ever. Should this change naturally documentation might be in order but not now." I said immediately rejecting that idea.

"I very much doubt the minister would take kindly to an undocumented ability user running about." Mcgonagall said sternly.

"Perhaps but it's not illegal so respectfully he can stuff it." I said with a shrug.

"A crude method of phrasing it but understandable." Dumbledore said with a slightly amused smile.

"I'm not saying the position wasn't one deserving of respect but I prefer to judge people based on their actions rather than their positions. Cornelius Fudge is a political beast, a selfish one lacking personal skill at that. All of my research on the man tells me that beyond that position he is not worth the air he breaths." I said bluntly.

"An apt description." Snape said with what I could have sworn was a hint of genuine approval.

"One should not speak ill of others behind their backs. I expect better of you Alex." Flitwick chided sternly.

"Of course, apologies. Still on the matter of limiting my usage of my new ability I see nothing wrong with it. I never intended to use much of it publicly to begin with." I said truthfully.

The goro goro no mi was meant to be a sort of support role rather than my go to method of attack. While I could absolutely refine my use of it to be precise and only as damaging as I wished it could be countered far easier than if I relied on various normal spells. The lightning would be my final attack, a trump card and even then hidden under the guise of normal lightning spells.-

I didn't even intend to rely on elementalization if I could help it. It wouldn't really work too well against wizards anyways since the need for intent and will in spells might let them work similarly to haki and still hit me. I'd need to test this of course to be sure but I was fairly confident my theory was correct. The mere existence of that spell Madam Pomphrey uses to attack my observation haki makes it hold weight after all.-

Once the suddenness of my new ability wore off the serious expressions and concerns gave way to curiosity and intrigue. I suppose it should have been expected to be fair as each of the professors were magical talents who reached their current levels through hard work and curiosity. A new ability like mine would naturally be of great interest to them. They were mostly interested in knowing my new abilities limits and uses in their fields. Flitwick took great delight in how my powers were almost entirely within his field of expertise. There was a small amount of crossover in transfiguration and potions though. -

Surprisingly for potions there were actual brews that required the cauldron getting struck by lightning. Potions Snape volunteered me to help him brew without asking for my own input in the matter. Not that I'd say no since he did say I'd get some of the finished product as a result but at least being asked first would be nice. The crossover with transfiguration was kinda an accident on my part as Flitwick tried to test my reflexes to see if they were lightning fast only for me to instinctively elementalize. I was too damned new to the powers and it just sort of happened leaving me mentally cursing since that was exposed now.
