Chapter 11 - Recovery

Ordis POV:

I waited anxiously for the Operators return, I couldn't sense anything about him since he said he would come.

I scanned the surrounding area multiple times but came up with nothing but a few small critters and the Kubrows who where laying next to Lisets exit, waiting for their master return.

I tried contacting him, but he didn't seem to hear me, so I switched my scanners to maximum capacity to see if I could find any other life form in my surroundings.

After some minutes of searching I finally found something, multiple small organisms were gathering at the Guardians Ship and one bigger one appeared shortly after, seemingly communicating with them.

Then everything went quiet, no more readings showed up on my Screens anymore.

I started to feel nervous as the Time passed with no sign of operator on the coms, so I decided to call for him once again, hoping that he would now hear me.

"Operator, can you hear me?" I asked over our coms, trying to not let the worry show in my voice.

"Yes Ordis I can hear you, we just arrived through the jump point and came as quickly as possible, what's the situation down there" he asked.

I breathed out a sigh of relieve "Everything is clear, the Kubrows are waiting for your arrival, I don't sense anything but them and those ships that were here before I lost connection to you, there are some in the vicinity of the guardians crashed ship though" I answered, happy that I was able to help.

"Good work Ordis, thanks for the report, tell the Kubrows to wait, I will come back in a moment" he said, leaving me alone again.

Observer POV:

The Guardians were in the cockpit of the Ravanger ship, looking outside the window of the Electors view screen.

On it a video feed from Berhert was displayed.

Tenno stood there with his hand behind his back, staring down at the Planet like an Imperial dictator.

"They are better fucking not try to tinker around my ship, I just put it back together again" Said Rocket angrily as he heard from Tenno that there were lifeforms at the Milano.

Quill nodded.

"If they scratch the paint, I'm going to kick their asses," he added.

The Elector drew closer to Berhert, the green planet looming large in the viewport. Kraglin eyes narrowed as he saw the wreckage of Quills ship lying in the crater.

"Is that... what did you say happened again?"

Quill shrugged. "I told you, we got ambushed by the Sovereign."

Kraglin shook his head slowly. "Yeah, but seeing it like this, still seems weird to me."

Quill laughed. "You're telling me. It's been a helluva week."

He turned to Gamora, who stood beside him at the forward console, gazing out onto the Planet.

"Hell of a good week" he said as he leaned over to kiss her, but she just smiled at him and gave him a light headbutt, he staggering back a bit, as she kissed him smilingly and turned away.

"You got yourself a feisty one" Kraglin said to Quill as he turned away to the consoles, activating the scanners to search for the ships Tenno spoke about.

A red dot appeared on the HUD. Kraglin peered closely at it, then zoomed in.

"There," he said.

Gamora leaned forward, studying the image. "Are those Kree vessels?"

Rocket jumped up on the console, feet padding across the controls as he peered down. He glanced up at Quill, then back at the viewscreen.

"Yup. Two Kree fighters."

He slid across the console, tapping at the controls until the screen zoomed in further.

"They're in stealth mode," he said. "See? There's no exhaust trail."

Drax frowned at the screen. "What would the Kree want with our ship?"

Kraglin pointed at a second red blip. "And what's that?"

Gamora peered at the larger object, then tapped a button to enlarge its image. She studied it, then looked up.

"That's a scavenger ship."

Rocket nodded grimly, his face hardened, fur bristling. "Those assholes think they can salvage the Milano?"

Drax slammed a fist into his palm, eyes gleaming. "I will destroy them!"

Quill shook his head. "Whoa, Drax. Let's hold on just a sec here..."

The Guardians stared at him.

"We've got bigger fish to catch, guys." He turned to Rocket. "How close do we have to get for their systems to notice us?"

"Don't know, could try to hack them" Rocket said. "Their firewalls aren't too tight, but I'd prefer if they didn't know we were there in the first place."

"Got it," Quill said. "Kraglin, bring us in as close as you can without being seen. We'll go the rest of the way on foot."

"Aye-aye," Kraglin said, sliding into his pilot seat and setting course for Berhert.

Tenno POV:

With each step closer to the Liset, I felt my connection with Ordis getting stronger and stronger.

I sighed, happy to be back home soon.

After a days march started to come into the vicinity of the two ships, while we became more and more careful.

Ordis showed me an overview of the area and I immediately recognized the scavenger ship which was sitting next to the Milano.

On the other side were those Kree vessels I heard from Quill when he talked, probably trying to let the scavengers do the hard work and then just take everything valuable from them, while killing them or something like that.

"Ordis, tell the Kubrows to go around and take cover at the Kree Ships in case they attack" I said to Ordis .

"Of course Operator" He answered, giving the commands to my Kubrows, who left the Liset, sneaking past the two other groups of Scavengers that where closing in on the Milano.

Groot looked up at me and smiled, probably sensing the anticipation about having my own ship back.

"Good boy" I whispered as I petted his head, making him giggle.

"So how exactly do you plan to get your ship out of here? It's not like they wouldn't Visually see the ship leaving for Orbit" he said, making a good point.

"We need a distraction" I said, while telling my plan to the Guardians.

Observer POV:

7 Scavengers, each of a different Kind of Alien, were looking at the, pretty destroyed but flyable, Milano, their mouths watering at the thought of looting such an incredible ship.

"Well, well, boys. Looks like we hit the jackpot!" The leader said, holding a scanner in his hand, which picked up energy readings coming from inside the ship.

The other 6 nodded eagerly. They were all waiting for this day to arrive, when they finally found something big enough to give them some real profits.

"Come on, let's start taking her apart." The leader said, pointing to one of his men who had already begun approaching the Ship.

Suddenly a "fump" was heard and a round thing landed inbetween the few scavengers as they all looked at each other, thinking they each were responsible for the sound.

Suddenly smoke was forming around them, and a voice sounded through the clearing.

"You guys have one opportunity to put down all your weapons and give up so we can take you in and hand you over to the Nova Empire"

Rocket said through the smoke, his undertone clearly indicating he in fact didn't want them to give up.

The leader of the group laughed as he drew his gun and pointed it towards the voice.

"Yeah, right. Why don't you come out of hiding and say that to our faces?"

"I am Groot" Groot said and Rocket smiled.

"Yes, we gave them a chance" his voice was heard from all around them as suddenly, a screeching sound was heard and they all crouched down in pain.

They didn't register as one after another a tiny silver projectile attached to them one after another, shocking them with electricity until they went into shock.

Slowly the smoke dissipated, revealing Groot, Rocket, Drax, Quill and Gamora, all of them plucking ear plugs out of their heads.

The leader was lying on the ground, twitching violently, eyes wide open.

He tried to reach for his gun again, but Rocket was quicker than him and grabbed the weapon, putting a finger on the trigger.

"Wanna see what this baby can do?"

The man's eyes widened even more and slowly and in pain raising his arms in surrender, shaking his head slowly.

"Didn't think so," Rocket said with a grin. "Now get up."

With great effort, the man stumbled to his feet. A trickle of blood ran down his neck where he had been shocked.

"Good work, fellas," Quill said.

"Groot, grab the rest of their gear."

"I am Groot!" The tree said happily, while walking toward weapons and tools, gathering everything together.

"Now fast everyone, let's get back in, and start the Engine, Gamora, open the Coms and ping the Kree ships. Time for the distraction" Quill said while Finally stepping foot inside their own ship again.

Tenno POV:

I had sneeked of on myself to get to my ship, while the rest of the guardians worked on a distraction.

My Kubrows were following me quietly, waiting for their next order to jump into action, not needed in the slightest.

The Guardian were in the Cockpit already, starting the engine, hopefully sticking to the Plan.

As I entered my ship, Ordis greeted me and showed me that my plan was working perfectly so far.

While Rocket hacked into the Camera feed of the Kree Ships, Quill and Gamora opened up a channel to one of them.

Quills voice rang through my Headset.

"Hey, Kree fighter! Do you copy? Come in."

A second later the Pilot answered with an angry sounding Voice.

"What do you want, Terran?"

"We got some salvagers here who tried to loot the Milano, our ship, you know, the guardians of the galaxy" Quill said proudly.

"No shit. We've been monitoring them since they got here." The pilot said annoyed.

"They got bounty's on their heads, from the Kree and the Nova empire, you ready to pay for them or shall we wait for the Nova empires ships, we already contacted them, they should be here any minute, but if you gave us a letter price, I guess we could talk about it"

The Plan was my Idea to begin with. As far as I could find out, Kree ships like these were not allowed in Nova owned space, so if they found out they were coming, they were hopefully putting all their visual sensors at the Jump point's location, while having the rest point at the Milano.

This way they wouldn't notice that something was wrong when I went into orbit, out of their visual sensors range.

They would only realize it once I already left the area and it would be too late by then.

The Kree ship started panicking and said something along the lines of leaving immediately, as both of them activated their engines and went to the jump point.

I smiled at how easy that was.

As they were now distracted by this new information, I activated the engines and started entering low orbit.

Once there, I sent a short com to the Guardians and went to the rendezvous point.

Observer POV:

Gamora shut down the connection to the Kree fighter as Rocket jumped off his seat with a laugh.

"Oh, man. That was awesome!" He exclaimed gleefully.

"Yeah, nice work, guys," Quill said.

He walked to the front of the cockpit. "Now let's see that we get the hell outta here..."

Sat down and started the engines, also flying towards the Ravanger Ship in Orbit.

Quill opened up a channel. "Kraglin, are we clear?" he asked.

"Just about, Captain," Kraglin answered, the Elector still visible on the viewscreen. "You're good to go."

Gamora turned from her seat beside Quill, looking back at Groot. "Did you gather their equipment?" she asked the small tree.

"I am Groot!"

"Great," Gamora said. "Rocket, take their stuff over to the cargo bay"

"Right away!" Rocket said, grabbing the large backpack Groot had brought on board.

He paused halfway through the door. "What's it worth, you think?"
