Introduction and Preface
Hello everyone, this is Kotario.
Whether you are new to webnovels or an old hand, you've likely at least seen or heard of my main work, Guild Wars.
Since then, I've worked on different projects across multiple genres—not counting my previous experience creating visual novels pre-2020.
After nearly a decade of writing, I've developed my own style and formed solid opinions on storytelling, settling into a niche of my own.
To challenge myself—and readers as well—I've decided to take on something I usually wouldn't write and have rarely enjoyed reading: the archetype of a pure villain MC.
I've written more than a few villain MCs, but based on how I personally perceive villainy, they've often come across as—and have been labeled by readers as—anti-heroes. This tends to happen with readers who believe only the purest evil qualifies as a true villain.
Whether that belief is valid is beside the point. What is the point is this: I want to reach into the deepest pits of both logical and emotional evil, creating a main character who does evil that leads to evil outcomes, not one who does evil only for it to result in good.
Personally, I hesitated on this idea for a while. Despite how simple it sounds, writing this kind of character comes with a lot of complications. Not everyone has the maturity to separate art from artist, and if you dig too deep into the darkness, people tend to project and label you negatively.
Most authors fear that. That's why you often see villain MC novels where the main character starts out evil but quickly softens. The author senses danger from readers intolerant of true villainy and pulls back.
Even the great Gu Zhenren faces a lot of flak for Fang Yuan, widely seen as the number one villain MC in all of webnovel history. By undertaking this novel, I fully expect similar negativity. But I truly want to see what I can create if I go no-holds-barred, without fear of consequences to my reputation.
To that end, I also hope you enjoy what is presented here.
Before that, I'll state the major tags for this novel and explain what to expect, so you're not blindsided.
Content Warning and Tags
1. Harem/Sexual Content: Probably the most important tag to clarify. For some, harem is completely unacceptable—especially for pure villain lovers who expect a largely asexual or nonsexual main character, unaffected by the pleasures of the flesh.
Once again, I'm not here to debate you—just to explain how harem and sexual content work in this novel.
And to simplify… it works rather brutally. There is no romance in this novel, as evidenced by the lack of a romance tag. Whether it's harem or sexual content, these events occur as a result of benefits, interest, or force.
None of the harem members are romantic interests. They do not have plot armor. The harem here is vicious—filled with internal scheming and betrayal. Any member can be killed or crippled by another, with no divine intervention at the last second. Be aware of this before reading.
2. Intelligence: Another important tag to clarify. The MC is not a reincarnated old monster like Fang Yuan or Leylin. He's a relatively normal young man from Earth, and also a rather unremarkable youth in this cultivation world. He does not have the benefit of an extensive past life to draw from.
That said, he is not stupid. However, he's also not Aizen or Light Yagami.
This MC is the cunning type, not the scheming type. If you want to know the difference: a cunning person is mostly reactive, using their resourcefulness to turn situations in their favor in response to events. A scheming person is proactive, having already laid out plans in advance.
3. Villain Journey: As should be obvious, the MC doesn't start out as the perfect villain. The entire novel is about his pursuit of a perfect sense of 'existence,' growing stronger while indulging in everything life has to offer when one is devoid of 'morals.'
Each volume in this novel revolves around a theme that reflects his evolving ideology and sense of self.
For example, Volume One is Impulse. After discarding morals and tasting true power for the first time, he begins to act purely on whim—cruel or benevolent, depending on how he feels in the moment.
Each arc ends with a revelation or lesson that shifts his 'theme' for the next volume, pushing him closer to the peak of true villainy.
4. Monologuing: As a dark-themed novel, this story will include the occasional villain monologue—where the MC explains his disdain for weakness, kindness, or outlines the logic behind his cruelty. All good villain novels have it—even the bad ones—so this one has it too.
However, unlike most, this MC won't always 'justify' his villainy with logic or purpose. Sometimes, he'll do things that may make you question my sanity—just because he wants to, because he can, or because he thinks it's funny or interesting. Be ready for that.
Final Words
If you've read this far, then you're basically good to go. Enter this novel with your morals and kindness left at the door, and take it as an invitation to experience something a bit different.
Do not get attached to any character—they might be killed or ruined in a heartbeat. Do not expect random acts of kindness, and do not assume side characters will go from bad situations to good ones. It might happen, but it's far more likely that bad situations will get worse.
This is not a depressing novel, nor is it meant to trigger depression. It's a pure villain fantasy that explores the question:
"If someone from Earth were transmigrated into a world where they could do whatever they wanted with their power, without fear of consequences like on Earth… what would they do?"
Even here on Earth in 2025, with police, laws, and the FBI, there are still people who commit great acts of evil.
So if someone like that were to enter a world with none of those limitations… would they really act the same as they did on Earth?
Let's find out.
