Chapter 22 - Someone's following

Lena's pov

The university campus buzzed with late-night energy, students laughing and wandering under the streetlights. But for me, the night felt anything but normal.

Since last week, strange things had started happening—cryptic messages left on my phone, a shadowy figure glimpsed just beyond the crowd, and an eerie feeling that someone was always watching.

I told myself it was paranoia, a side effect of the mission stress. But deep down, I knew better.

Tonight, as I walked back from the library, my footsteps echoed louder than usual. I glanced over my shoulder—nothing but darkness.

A chill ran down my spine.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed.

A message flashed on the screen: "You can't hide forever, Lena."

My breath caught. I quickly pocketed the phone and scanned the streets.

Who was sending these? What did they want?

I tried to push the fear aside. No one could know. Not Ethan, not anyone.

Because if they did, it wouldn't just be a threat to me — it would be a threat to everything we were trying to build.
