Chapter 123 - Chap 123 : Tremors

"Yukito-san, it's only this much, you can handle it, right?", asked Hime.

What kind of question is that? Even with my bare hands, I could defeat it.

"Of course.", I replied.

Suddenly, I felt like my status screen made a sound.

I immediately opened it and saw that the exp I had had increased.

Also, some of my attributes had gotten stronger, especially my swordsmanship ability.

Honestly, we were still on the 5th floor, and the floor boss had been goblins since the first floor.

Hime and Yuu-chan gave me this chance so my sword skills could improve further.

At the same time, raising the numbers in my status screen—who knows, maybe a new skill would unlock.

"Hime, are the monsters really only like this?", I asked.

"I don't know, this is also my first time entering a dungeon… so I'm not sure.", she replied.

——

Floor after floor, we continued to pass through. The more we descended, the more diverse the monsters became.

Starting from orcs, giant insects, wolf-like monsters with absurd sizes—

Flying monsters, and many more, their numbers growing as well.

After passing the 10th floor, the floor bosses appeared in groups.

Because of that, I had to ask the two of them for help, since I couldn't fight the groups alone.

I feel like this dungeon is too easy for me. I've been defeating monsters over and over, yet I still don't feel tired.

In fact, I feel like I could keep fighting all the way to the deepest floor.

There were barely any difficulties, and Hime and Yuu-chan only helped me when we encountered groups of monsters.

As for the items dropped by the floor bosses, we kept getting nothing but cooking materials.

Not a single actual item so far—maybe we need to go deeper to get rare loot.

"Yukito-sama, look out in front of you!", said Yuu-chan.

I looked forward and saw a huge bear with a muscular body and extremely sharp claws charging toward me.

Its body was shaped like a bear, but it looked more like a monster than an actual animal.

Its back had sharp spikes like a porcupine's.

Its fur was jet black, and I could feel a dangerous aura coming from it.

Its eyes glowed bright red, as if it wanted to pounce and devour me.

But thanks to Yuu-chan's warning, I managed to block its claws with my sword.

Cring, cring.

I could see its mouth open, revealing its sharp teeth.

The sound of my sword clashing against its claws felt satisfying. I immediately pushed its body back with my sword.

Now it was my turn to attack!

I made a quick movement, dashed toward it, and stabbed its chest with my sword.

After feeling the blade go in deep enough, I quickly pulled it out and flicked the blood off.

I learned this motion earlier when fighting the floor boss—an orc roughly the same size as this bear.

The motion of flicking the blood off looked cool, so I did it.

The bear's body turned to ash, and a treasure chest appeared—just what I wanted.

I picked it up and began opening it to see what was inside.

"Yukito-san, what did you find?", asked Hime as she jogged toward me.

"Do monsters like this really drop cloth?", I asked while showing the cloth I got to both of them.

Inside the chest was only a thick red cloth, about the size of a scarf you'd wear around your neck.

But what does a monster like that have to do with cloth?

"I think it's kind of strange… but at least it's not cooking materials anymore.", she replied.

——

Honestly, besides hoping for rare items, I also hoped for a sword sheath.

I only bought the sword—not the sheath. Because of that, I kept holding it so it wouldn't fall to the ground.

I admit it's tiring, but if I had a sheath, I wouldn't need to hold it all the time.

——

"Yuu-chan, what floor are we on now?", I asked.

I wasn't counting how many floors we'd gone through—not because I didn't want to, but because I was too focused on the boss fights.

"Hold on… right now we're on the 31st floor, almost halfway to the bottom floor.", she replied.

I feel like we haven't even spent half an hour reaching this floor.

All the boss fights didn't last long. I kept defeating them in one strike.

Even when we met monster groups.

Suddenly, the three of us felt the dungeon floor shake as we were about to fight the boss on the 31st floor.

"What's happening?!", I shouted slightly.

The reason I shouted was because the shaking caused rocks from the walls and ceiling to fall.

The sound was loud, so I had to raise my voice to be heard.

"Calm down!", Hime replied.

Only a few seconds passed before the shaking stopped, and everything returned to normal.

This is only the 31st floor, there's no way the boss here is that strong. The previous bosses didn't give me any trouble.

The previous one was just a wooden puppet that moved stiffly, making it easy to defeat.

It moved extremely fast and dodged my sword many times.

Until I managed to hit it when Hime used magic to immobilize it.

Then, because I let my guard down for a moment and it moved so quickly, its body grazed my cheek, leaving a small cut.

Fortunately, it wasn't deep and my life wasn't in danger.

My clothes were dirty, covered in dust.

My face was also a bit dirty from falling dust and dirt.

I looked at the two of them. They were dirty too, though not as much as I was.

"Are you two okay?", I asked.

"I'm fine… but what was that tremor earlier?", said Yuu-chan.

"I think… maybe it's caused by a monster on the deepest floor, or maybe a small earthquake, but it's nothing serious.", said Hime.

We continued walking forward, following wherever the path led.

From the first floor until now, torches had been set on the walls as the only source of light in this dungeon.

Sometimes, the torches went out due to rampaging monsters.

Well, a tremor like this wouldn't be enough to make our party retreat.
