Chapter 11 - Wooden Ladder

Wang Yu picked up the military shovel and began to chop the snow pine.

After chopping for a while, Wang Yu found that using a military shovel to chop trees was indeed not as good as an axe.

The military shovel's multi-purpose nature weakened its tree-chopping ability. Fortunately, he didn't try to chop thicker Big Trees; it would be even more strenuous to chop thicker Big Trees with this military shovel.

This 7-centimeter thick snow pine was not thick. Wang Yu chopped for a few minutes, and after the snow pine was tottering, it fell down.

After the snow pine fell, Wang Yu began to use the military shovel to chop off the snow pine's Tree Branches.

The numerous snow pine Tree Branches took Wang Yu a lot of effort. After all the Tree Branches were chopped off, Wang Yu used a 'measuring tool' to measure the length of the snow pine trunk, which was over 6 meters long.

Subsequently, Wang Yu chose another snow pine of similar thickness nearby and began to chop it down.

After felling the snow pine, Wang Yu chopped off all the Tree Branches as before, then Wang Yu also measured its length, which was also over 6 meters long.

Wang Yu cut both 6-meter-long snow pine trunks into 4.5-meter lengths.

Then Wang Yu cleaned up the Tree Branches of the two snow pines, picking out Tree Branches about 3 centimeters thick, and then cutting them into 40-centimeter-long wooden sticks.

After doing all this, Wang Yu began to transport the wood to the Shelter.

He ran back and forth four times; the two 4.5-meter-long trunks took two trips.

Then 10 of the 40-centimeter-long wooden sticks took one trip.

Finally, Wang Yu bundled up the remaining snow pine Tree Branches and carried them back as well.

All these brought-back items were placed under the Great Stones.

Next, Wang Yu neatly arranged the two 4.5-meter-long snow pine trunks, then he used the military shovel to make openings on the snow pine.

He made a 3-centimeter-sized groove every 40 centimeters on the snow pine, making 10 grooves on each snow pine.

After making 10 grooves on both snow pines, Wang Yu placed the two snow pines parallel to each other, then sequentially embedded the 3-centimeter-thick, 40-centimeter-long wooden sticks into the grooves on the two snow pines.

After the 10 wooden sticks were installed, to be safe, Wang Yu used vines to tightly bind each wooden stick at its embedded connection with the groove.

Thus, a 4.5-meter-long wooden ladder was made.

Wang Yu stood the wooden ladder upright; it was heavy, but he could still carry it.

Then Wang Yu carried the wooden ladder to the back of the first Great Stones he had placed. This rock wall was only 4.1 meters high, and Wang Yu leaned the wooden ladder directly against the rock wall.

After the ladder was set up, Wang Yu, holding a torch, climbed up the wooden ladder.

This 4.1-meter height was neither too high nor too short. After climbing to the 4.1-meter-high gap, Wang Yu saw the situation on top of the Great Stones for the first time.

The top of the Great Stones was covered with thick moss and a lot of bird droppings. Apart from this gap, the rest of the Great Stones' surface was relatively flat, with an area of about thirty square meters.

The situation on top of the four Great Stones was, of course, identical.

Wang Yu wanted to look around on top of the Great Stones, but it was all covered in moss, so he decided to clean it up later.

Standing on the Great Stones' gap, there was a 'guardrail' in front of the Shelter.

This 'guardrail' was a groove, formed by the gap being folder between two Great Stones.

The Great Stones on both sides were 5.4 meters high, while the gap was 4.1 meters high, thus forming a groove 1.3 meters high, 0.7 meters wide, and 1.1 meters long.

The 1.1-meter length was the length where the two Great Stones leaned against each other; all four Great Stones' connection points were 1.1 meters long.

Wang Yu entered the groove, looked down from the front edge, and saw the inside of the Shelter below. Then Wang Yu inserted the torch into the Great Stones, exited the groove, and descended to the ground via the ladder from the gap.

After descending to the ground, Wang Yu picked up the bundle of snow pine Tree Branches he had brought back, then climbed back up the wooden ladder to the gap.

Reaching the edge of the groove, Wang Yu threw the bundle of snow pine Tree Branches into the rock wall.

Subsequently, Wang Yu returned to the other side of the groove. He held the top of the Great Stones' rock wall with one hand and pulled the wooden ladder up with the other. The wooden ladder was heavy, so he had to be careful.

After pulling the wooden ladder to the top of the Great Stones, Wang Yu picked it up again and brought it into the groove. He slowly lowered the wooden ladder from the gap at the edge of the groove into the Shelter.

After the wooden ladder was in place, Wang Yu descended to the ground along the ladder, entering the Shelter.

The inside of this rock wall was approximately 5.3 meters long and 3 meters wide, about 16 square meters, which was very large for a wilderness Shelter.

Inside the rock wall, Wang Yu had already started a bonfire. At this time, the bonfire was about to go out, so Wang Yu immediately added dry firewood.

Then Wang Yu untied the bundle of snow pine Tree Branches he had thrown down and lay down on them.

He could finally relax. After spending a day in the pitch-black wilderness, his spirit had not slackened at all. Now, being surrounded by four Great Stones, each six or seven meters thick, finally gave him a sense of security.

This was also the reason Wang Yu planned to build the Shelter this way; in the darkness, the most lacking thing was a sense of security, so of course, he had to build the Shelter safely, at least so that he wouldn't have to be on edge when returning to the Shelter and could relax.

Seeing the gap in the Great Stones' rock wall, Wang Yu also had a sudden idea to use the gap in the Great Stones' rock wall to enter and exit the Shelter, which could be considered utilizing the drawback of the Great Stones' rock wall.

It was very safe inside the rock wall, but there were also disadvantages, which was that entering and exiting with a ladder was not very convenient. He could only improve it later, but sacrificing a little convenience for safety was worth it.

After Wang Yu lay down on the snow pine Tree Branches by the bonfire, he was truly too tired today and wanted to rest early.

He didn't choose a tent, sleeping bag, or other overnight items, so he could only sleep like this at night. However, sleeping inside the rock wall was safe, and the space was small, and there was a fire pit, so it wouldn't be cold.

Before sleeping, Wang Yu opened the [Chat Channel], wanting to see if there was any useful information.

As soon as he opened the [Chat Channel], Wang Yu found that Ji Feng, the influencer he followed, had an update.

[Ding, Player Ji Feng has listed homemade torches * 10 on the "trading channel."]

[Ji Feng: Brothers, I have listed Finnish torches that can burn for one hour on the trading channel. They can be exchanged for food, dry wood, and other items.

I have also uploaded a video of how to make Finnish torches. Everyone can learn from it.]

After influencer Ji Feng listed the Finnish torches, he also told his fans in the group.

Then Ji Feng posted a video demonstrating how to make a Finnish torch.

Wang Yu saw these messages too late; when he clicked into the trading channel, the homemade torches listed by Ji Feng had already been fully exchanged.

It seems he needs to pay more attention to the [Chat Channel] in the future.

He had only opened the [Chat Channel] three times today so far, and many messages only appeared afterwards.

Ji Feng posted a video, and Wang Yu clicked in to watch it. It was Ji Feng demonstrating how to make a Finnish torch.

This Finnish torch was actually very simple.

It involved finding a very thick log, placing it vertically, drilling a hole from the top down into the wood core, and then drilling a hole horizontally through the middle of the log.

This way, the flame could burn inside the log.

What a great idea.

The method of making it was simple, but it wouldn't be simple without tools; it's not that easy to drill holes in a log.

Ji Feng chose a hammer and chisel, which, of course, could be used to drill holes in the log.

Wang Yu did not have suitable tools, so he could only research it later.
