Chapter 258 - Chapter 258: The Conflict Erupts

"Hike!"

Lu Ke didn't play any tricks. There was no need for a fake snap during a team practice. After holding the football, he quickly took a step back, but his peripheral vision didn't even acknowledge Parys.

This was a strategic drill, and the focus wasn't on how Parys chose to defend, but on how the defensive coach decided to arrange the defensive plays. What's more, this was a red zone play, and everything would be completed in a blink of an eye. The defensive players' space to rush was very limited.

After taking a step back, Lu Ke didn't stop to prepare for a pass. Instead, he quickly moved horizontally to the left, raising his right hand high as if he were ready to throw. Michael Crabtree and Ted Ginn, who were on the left, one ready to block and the other ready to receive, were almost in the middle of a pass. The pass could be completed in an instant.

The defensive players had to quickly provide backup. Then they saw Lu Ke's arm start to swing, but in the next second, they were all stunned. Lu Ke made a turn, without any pause or hesitation, just like a fadeaway jumper in basketball. He gently used his wrist to softly and lightly send the football flying.

The football drew a small arc in the air, advancing only about three yards, and landed right behind the defensive linemen. Then Logan Newman burst out, leaped high, and caught the football in his arms in a "monkey picking a peach" pose. He then used the momentum of his landing and forward motion to continue advancing.

Jim, who was standing on the sidelines, couldn't help but exchange a glance with Craig and Kippy.

Within the framework of the play, Lu Ke accurately sensed the changes in the game. Crabtree and Ginn were not in good positions, while Newman had a small opening. At the moment of the throw, Lu Ke changed his passing intention, and at the same time, he carefully controlled the arc of the pass to accurately complete it.

For quarterback coaches and wide receiver coaches, there is one skill that cannot be trained, and that is touch and feel for the ball.

The moment a quarterback passes the ball, the softness of their wrist, the use of their strength, and the control of their fingertips are all done in less than a millisecond, but it has a huge impact on the control of the football. This kind of touch, which cannot be seen or touched, can truly change the game.

The same goes for wide receivers. With the same pass, some wide receivers just can't catch it, while others can save the day. In addition to the basic qualities of catching the ball, the soft touch at the moment of the catch is crucial.

Some people have wondered why there are more white players than black players at the quarterback position. Half a century ago, it was because of racial discrimination. But in the twenty-first century, even though racial discrimination still exists, it's not as common. The reason for this is simple, and it's because of the feel for passing.

Black people have excellent physical abilities and have an advantage in many aspects. But their touch and feel for passing are not good enough, which leads to problems such as a decrease in their passing accuracy and a lack of control over their passes. For a traditional pocket quarterback, this is a disadvantage.

So, black players like Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick have gradually started to become running quarterbacks, fully utilizing their physical advantages and avoiding their weaknesses.

In that last pass, Lu Ke's touch was soft and smooth. The quality and feel of the ball at the moment of the throw were perfect. Even though he had changed the play at the last minute, everything was under control. This made people start to wonder if white people's touch and feel for the ball are better than black people's. Does this mean that people of Asian descent also have an advantage in this area?

"Damn it! You're a lunatic!"

"I've been wanting to punch you for a long time!"

"Piece of shit!"

...

A loud burst of cursing, like a sudden clap of thunder, erupted on the field, and everything instantly became chaotic.

Jim Harbaugh looked at Craig and Kippy with a bewildered and surprised expression, but both of them had their arms crossed and just shrugged, not saying anything. Their calm attitude made it hard to tell if they were used to it or if they were happy to see it happen. Jim was also full of questions. Shouldn't the coaches step in to stop them at this moment?

Logan clenched his fist and swung it fiercely at Parys's chest. The heavy straight punch made Parys stumble backward. The sound of their bones colliding was like two pieces of ice hitting each other, crisp yet muffled, and a bystander could clearly feel the pain.

But Parys was not to be outdone. At the moment he took a step back, he raised his right foot and kicked Logan hard in the abdomen. He used the momentum of leaning back and the strength of his entire body to kick him, and then Logan was hit with a huge impact. He lost control of his footing and stumbled backward repeatedly.

In the next second, after they had both regained their footing, they lunged at each other fiercely and started to fight.

"Stop, stop!" The coaches were still standing on the sidelines and didn't step in immediately. But the players on the field reacted quickly and immediately swarmed them.

Some were trying to break up the fight, and some were trying to stop them. But some people were already angry and started to shove each other. The emotions that had been suppressed for three weeks finally couldn't be controlled at this moment, and it exploded like a powder keg.

The offensive linemen and defensive linemen also lost control. They were already opponents who faced off against each other, and their physical collisions and confrontations were undoubtedly the most frequent. After losing control of their emotions, all the anger that had been built up seemed to burst out. They were shoving each other, cursing at each other, and with their heads hot, all kinds of trash talk came flying out of their mouths. Everyone was in a brawl.

Gradually, the line between individuals completely disappeared. It had started with just Logan and Parys, but now it had escalated into a large-scale brawl. Everyone's eyes were bloodshot, and they were butting heads and fighting like wild bulls. The banging sound of their helmets hitting each other was truly frightening.

After Lu Ke completed the pass, he landed steadily. Because the release was very fast, as expected, the defensive players didn't have the time or space to rush him, so Lu Ke wasn't hit at all. The three defensive linemen also didn't face too much of an impact.

In his line of sight, he saw Logan make the catch and then charge forward with his right shoulder leading the way. In the entanglement, the other players' footwork couldn't keep up, and they had no way to defend him. So, Parys, who was closest to Logan, became the last line of defense. But Parys stumbled and couldn't get close to him immediately. With a simple hit, Logan broke through in an instant.

The path in front of him was wide open. Logan's feet didn't stop, and he ran for more than twenty yards before he finally let out a satisfying breath. If this were a real game, it would have been a long-distance rushing touchdown. The San Francisco 49ers' defensive team hadn't been able to keep up with the pace.

Logan spread his arms and jogged toward Lu Ke. He didn't expect Parys to charge into him like a bull. For the defensive team, there was no need for Logan to continue advancing. This was just practice. After the play was successful, advancing a few more yards was enough. Continuing to advance was just adding insult to injury and flaunting his success.

Parys finally couldn't suppress his anger, and his fist finally flew. But Logan wasn't someone to be trifled with, and he was young and hot-blooded. He punched Parys hard in the ribs a few times, which really made Parys angry, and that's when the above scene happened.

Seeing Logan in trouble, Lu Ke reacted quickly and immediately ran over. He saw that everyone was starting to shove each other, so he also rolled up his sleeves, ready to join the fight. But as he got closer, the situation started to get out of control. It wasn't just Logan and Parys; the offensive and defensive teams were starting to fight each other.

Especially the offensive and defensive linemen. It was as if they had a mortal hatred for each other, and they were really going at it.

It had started as a personal feud, but if it escalated to the offensive and defensive teams, the situation would be much more serious.

Lu Ke could have joined the fight and had a good brawl. But if he did, the offensive and defensive teams would have a lasting feud, and the locker room would never be peaceful again. He clenched his fists and then let go. He clenched them again and let go again. He finally clenched them again, but instead of swinging them at Parys, he took a deep breath and roared angrily, "Everybody get the hell off each other!"

Lu Ke pushed Marcus Lynch, Kendall Hunter, and Aldon Smith. "What are you all just standing there for? Break them up!"

While yelling, he skillfully pulled the fighting players apart. "Damn it! Are you all out of your minds? This is just a practice, a practice! If you can't handle losing, then either practice harder or get out of the league. A brain is a good thing, don't forget to use it."

The defensive and offensive players were finally pulled apart. Thankfully, everyone was wearing helmets and pads, so the situation didn't get completely out of control. But Lu Ke's emotions were running high at this moment. "Everybody calm down! People would think we lost three in a row, not won three in a row! The whole damn league is waiting to laugh at us, to laugh at us! And you're here, fighting each other like a bunch of horny teenagers!"

"Get away!" Parys's sanity had completely collapsed at this point. He took off his glove and threw it fiercely at Logan.

Logan didn't dodge. Instead, he puffed out his chest and walked toward him. "Come on! You bastard! Was the last lesson not enough? Do you want another one?"

"You're a damn rookie! You better show some respect!" Parys yelled angrily. The other defensive players were pulling on Parys, and the offensive players were pulling on Logan, to prevent the two red-eyed bulls from colliding again. But Parys was struggling to break free from their grip, screaming with all his might, "When I was playing on the field, you were still playing with yourself! Don't be so arrogant and conceited! I'll teach you how to survive in the league!"

"Old man, are you sure you're not an old fossil with one foot in the grave?" Logan retorted without backing down, which once again caused a commotion.
