Byung became interested and wondered what the requirement for the rebate was, but didn't know how to communicate with the system just yet.
He was still coming to terms with it because part of him thought he was going insane, but what part of this entire existence was normal to begin with?
There had to be a reason it didn't work, but Byung had been promoted and had a goblin tethered to him due to his conscience not being able to see another living thing suffer in his presence when he had the means to help out.
But Byung realised he wasn't the only one who got a promotion because a few others in that room were exceptional miners, hence why they had a break.
Byung thought he was special, but in the end, there would be others who would get that same treatment, though there was a difference.
Byung was exceptionally young—way younger than any of them, which made his promotion impressive considering he had only been born a few months ago.
These goblins were over a year old, so Byung had done things that they took double the time to accomplish.
Byung noticed something interesting about all of this because no one had called these goblins by any name.
They had no names and were instead assigned numbers according to the order in which they were incorporated into the system.
The numbers were always reallocated upon each promotion, with the lowest number signifying the oldest member here.
Byung was among the last five and noticed they hadn't had anyone new brought in for quite some time.
This showed the goblins weren't reproducing at an overwhelming rate, and he wasn't sure how long the whole process took either—if it took weeks, months, or even years before the pregnancy matured.
"Okay you?" The timid goblin asked, but the stutter was no longer present, showing he had begun to trust Byung.
"I distracted…" Byung responded with an exhausted sigh because there was still so much he didn't know about this world, and this little bubble the goblins kept him in would only ensure this would remain the case.
This included the system he had either been blessed or cursed with, as he hadn't figured it out either.
"What your age?" Byung asked the timid goblin, and without hesitation, he divulged his age.
"I 2 years old," the goblin responded, and this shocked Byung, considering how he looked.
He had a smaller frame, and this was a well-grown adult, to say the least, so why was he being picked on?
The fact that he was older and looked like this must be some genetic defect.
But Byung knew he had to leave him behind eventually, or he would drag him back.
"You older! I just surprised," Byung couldn't hide his surprise, but they were interrupted when someone walked in.
Byung's eyes averted to focus on the person who had walked in, and noticed right away it was one of the supervisors of the mines.
"Which one of you is 402?" the goblin asked right away, and everyone's eyes focused on Byung. The fact that they spoke in full sentences already told these goblins these weren't your average goblins, and if that didn't send the message, their clothing would.
"That me," Byung responded. The goblin standing in front of him was none other than Murkfang. Murkfang came here personally—this had never happened before, as it was usually processed through the supervisors.
"Come with me," Murkfang commanded, and Byung knew without question he had to obey.
The way he spoke and carried himself, this was the person he would need on his side if he were to climb the ladder.
He followed him outside, and Byung couldn't help but admire what he had on; it was simple, but it had a hint of savagery woven in despite the clothes being ragged.
"I spoke to the supervisor and he has told me you are the hardest working among the last batch. You are not like the other goblins, are you?" Murkfang informed Byung, but what followed from his lips shortly after was a cough.
Upon closer observation, Byung noticed his skin looked paler than he was used to, even though it was green.
"Okay you?" Byung questioned, but Murkfang quickly downplayed it.
"I'm fine…" Murkfang responded, but Byung noticed Murkfang had come alone.
Byung was familiar with herbs and medicine because he had studied them extensively in his past life due to his disability, in hopes of finding a cure.
If Byung could be certain of anything, it was that the words coming out of this creature's mouth were a blatant lie.
