"Where can a large number of children be found, and where can they disappear without anyone noticing?"
"Where is it easiest to access children without parents?"
The standard answer to these three questions is an orphanage.
Due to the war, many children had become orphans.
These orphans weren't just from the Hidden Leaf—some were children from other villages picked up by shinobi on the battlefield.
So when Orochimaru had previously sought children with special bloodlines, it was easy for him to search here.
He didn't even need to leave the village to find children with unique lineages.
Of course, most of these children would be raised to become shinobi specializing in unsavory, off-the-record missions.
And in the Hidden Leaf's case, this was naturally managed by our beloved "Shadow of the Village"—Shimura Danzo.
Uchiha Yato walked straight into the orphanage and questioned the current director about basic information.
For example, had any children gone missing from the orphanage?
And where were the children sent once they came of age?
The orphanage director himself was a Root operative, so of course, he had been trained in basic evasion tactics.
But Uchiha Yato wasn't about to play nice.
Without hesitation, he cast a genjutsu with his Sharingan.
Since Root operatives bore the Tongue Severing Seal, they couldn't reveal critical information.
Uchiha Yato had no intention of interrogating the Root shinobi—he simply resorted to "glorious" methods of ransacking the place.
If this was where Danzo sourced his recruits, then searching here would surely yield some clues.
If he found nothing, he'd just go straight to Orochimaru and ask where Danzo got his test subjects.
Either way, Danzo would be stuck with this mess—whether Uchiha Yato shoved it in his face alone or brought others along to do it.

Fortunately, persistence paid off.
Uchiha Yato uncovered some records—though they were deliberately vague.
Only names and cryptic symbols were noted.
In one of the rooms he inspected earlier, he also found photos of orphanage children.
There weren't many—just five or six.
Likely, some had already been destroyed when the children died.
But this wasn't enough. There still wasn't concrete evidence linking Danzo to these disappearances.
So Uchiha Yato turned his attention to the orphans themselves.
He gently approached a little girl, around five years old.
She was surprisingly calm, unfazed by the sudden arrival of so many people.
A child who didn't fear strangers either had a sharp mind or had been well-protected.
"What's your name, little one?"
"Yuwa."
"Yuwa, do you know where your older friends or the bigger kids went?"
Yuwa answered, "I don't know. There was a big brother who was really nice to me… but then I never saw him again."Uchiha Yato said, "Do you have a photo of your brother? We came here to look for those missing companions. If you have a photo, give it to me, and I'll help you find him."
When Uchiha Yato wasn't causing trouble, his appearance could be quite deceiving.
Yuugo thought for a moment before replying, "Yuugo has his photo. Can you help me find my brother, big brother?"
As she spoke, she handed a yellowed photograph to Uchiha Yato.
The photo showed two children, one older and one younger. The little boy's face was filled with a bright, joyful smile, while the little girl radiated innocent cheerfulness.
The moment Uchiha Yato saw the boy in the photo, he immediately had the nearsighted personnel bring out the pictures of the children killed in the infant pit for comparison.
After several breaths, Uchiha Yato turned to Yuugo and said, "Yuugo, how about coming with me to live somewhere else?"
"The headmaster must have told you that if someone is willing to take you in, you can leave the orphanage, right?"
Uchiha Yato had already found the answer he was looking for—now, he just needed to protect the witness.
After some persuasion from Uchiha Yato, the little girl agreed to his proposal.
Uchiha Yato then called over a civilian ninja, hoping he could take care of the child for a while.
All expenses during this period would be covered by the Uchiha Clan.
The civilian ninja didn't hesitate much upon Uchiha Yato's request and agreed immediately.
But as Uchiha Yato looked at the man's bright green jumpsuit, he felt like he had seen it somewhere before.
He then asked for the civilian ninja's name.
The civilian ninja replied, "I'm Might Dai."
Well, if he hadn't asked, he wouldn't have known—this was quite the shock.
Wasn't this the father of the "Green Beast" Might Guy? When had such a powerhouse been recruited into the Hidden Leaf's Military Police Force without him knowing?
This wasn't the time for small talk with Might Guy's father, so after a few brief instructions, Uchiha Yato had Might Dai take Yuugo home.
Now, he had both the evidence linking the orphanage to Root and the witness testimony.
At this point, Uchiha Yato couldn't say he was brimming with confidence, but he was at least 80-90% sure he could make Shimura Danzo pay dearly.
Just then, an Uchiha ninja called for Uchiha Yato to return.
The reason? The clan leader had convened a meeting at the Naka Shrine.
This immediately energized Uchiha Yato—it was the perfect opportunity to guide the Uchiha Clan on how to steer the situation moving forward.
Following the Uchiha ninja's lead, Uchiha Yato arrived at the meeting at the Naka Shrine.
Just then, he overheard Uchiha Kei saying, "Due to the infant pit incident, many people are now highly dissatisfied with the Uchiha Military Police Force."
"I hope everyone can offer their opinions and countermeasures. After all, this concerns the reputation of our Uchiha Clan."
Hearing Uchiha Kei's words, it was clear that some Uchiha ninja had selectively relayed the "steel-plate-piercing" remarks.
But this time, Uchiha Yato didn't plan to speak up—he intended to watch the show first.
Then, the elder suddenly stood up and declared, "I don't know what you all should do, and I don't care to know."
"Let me say this upfront—if you don't handle this well, I'll have Uchiha Yato take over.""What kind of methods that kid has, you better weigh them carefully yourselves!"
This caught even Uchiha Yato, who had originally planned to just spectate, off guard.
A slight rustling sound—a Uchiha Jonin noticed Uchiha Yato entering.
A startled exclamation drew everyone's attention.
