Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

Midnight, Chainsaw World – Central Business District, Sector 7

Heavy rain pounded the city, drowning every glimmer from the streetlights in the sheen of water splashing against the wet asphalt. The scent of iron and blood hung thick in the air, giving the impression that this city was drenched in wounds. Thin smoke curled from the ruined buildings, as if the city was taking a heavy, weary breath, tired and defeated.

"This city... has never looked worse," Fitran murmured, his eyes sweeping over the disheartening scene. He stopped in the middle of the flooded street, water soaking into his heavy black coat, yet his gaze remained restless. He mapped out each crumbling building and the wild currents of energy swirling in the air. The aura of this world felt oppressive—more than just a threat, it was something fighting to strip away human will from within.

[WORLD SYNC COMPLETE]

Combat Adaptation: Chainsaw World Protocol – Hunter Class

Skill Transfer: Voidlight Blade (Limited), Spiral Bond Initiate

Status Effect: Enemy Entities detect Spiralborn energy

"So... this is Chainsaw World," he whispered, meticulously observing every detail. "The stench of demons is overwhelming."

Footsteps approached from behind. "Who's there?" Fitran asked, turning cautiously. His steps were not frantic—a steady rhythm, almost relaxed, yet still cut through the sound of the heavy rain. He looked around, searching for the source of the voice.

A woman with pink-orange hair stepped closer, her yellow eyes piercing through the gloom. "You're Fitran, aren't you?" she asked softly, her voice calm as though she had known him for a long time. "Your gaze... is unsettling," Fitran replied, his tone firm even as his heart raced. "Who are you?"

"I'm the one who comes after the storm," she answered as she moved closer. "Nexus sent me. Kull. And you are the rhinoceros amidst this grass. We have matters to discuss."

"Fitran Fate," Makima revealed, her voice vibrating between calm and assertive. "I've been waiting for you."

Fitran raised an eyebrow, clearly feeling his curiosity surge. "Interesting. I haven't even had the chance to introduce myself."

"You don't have to do this," Makima said, stopping two steps in front of him, her gaze sharp and full of affirmation. "Nexus has sent your data to Public Safety. You are a new variable in this world. My task is to ensure you're not a threat."

Fitran stared at the panel visible only to him, then turned back. "Let's get straight to the point, shall we? No introductions, no warm tea to enjoy?"

Makima stepped closer, the scent of her perfume blending with the smell of rain and smoke. "Prove yourself in the field. After that... we can talk about tea. And maybe more than that."

Fitran leaned in slightly, intrigued. "So, what do you mean by 'more than that' in your view?"

Makima paused for a moment. She turned, her steps firm as she walked along the wet path. "Follow me. There's a high-class devil in the next district. I want to see the capabilities of a Spiralborn like you firsthand."

"This seems like it's going to be fun," Fitran said, following with a relaxed stride even as tension began to creep into the air.

A narrow alley awaited their arrival, its walls adorned with graffiti nearly engulfed by moss. From a distance, a heavy roar echoed, accompanied by vibrations felt through the ground.

Makima glanced quickly, her eyes sharp. "Your weapon?"

Fitran opened his palm. "A bluish-black light gathered into a slender blade. This is called Voidlight. Here, its power is limited, but enough to behead a demon. We have to be willing to take risks."

"Prove it," Makima replied flatly, pushing the spirit and confidence within herself.

The demon emerged from the ruins, its figure towering with muscles that burned and mixed with cracked steel. As its jaw opened, its metal teeth screeched, creating a horrifying sound in the midst of the tense atmosphere.

Behind, Makima stood with her arms folded, staring intently. "You have one minute," she said, her voice flat but carrying an unignorable weight.

Fitran launched forward, his steps creating noise amid the pouring rain. "It's always one minute for people like us!" he shouted, his enthusiasm boiling over. The rain parted beneath his feet, while his Voidlight Slash sliced through the air, leaving a stunning, glowing trail on the demon's skin.

"Forty seconds," Makima's voice sounded flat, like a tense countdown, her eyes locked on every movement of Fitran.

The demon attacked brutally, smashing into the car beside them, reducing it to shards of metal. "Watch out, Fitran!" Makima yelled, her gaze sharp as she monitored every detail of the fight. Fitran jumped out of the way, spun, and delivered a sharp blow to the chin. The Voidlight flared dramatically, splitting the demon's head in two, radiating a grim shine.

The body fell, its blood mixing with the rain that poured onto the asphalt. Makima stepped past the carcass without looking back even once. "Good. But I want to see you fight against something... that can fight back," she said, her eyes challenging Fitran with the words etched in her tone.

Fitran touched his blade, which turned into particles of light. "Sounds like a second date," he replied, confidence resonating in his voice, a smile spreading across his face.

A faint smile appeared on Makima's lips—this was the first time tonight. "You learn quickly," she said, looking ahead while maintaining her striking calmness.

📜 Affinity Update

Makima — Affinity: 0% → 5%

Bond Quest Progress: Primary Objective 1/3

Makima gazed deeply into his eyes. "Don't make me regret giving you this chance, Fitran," she said, her voice measured and filled with a strong undertone of command.

He met her gaze, unflinching. "You'll regret it if you don't give it to me." The firmness in his voice echoed his deep conviction, as if he knew exactly what he wanted.

The rain kept pouring, but for some reason, the Chainsaw World seemed a little more enticing to Fitran. "Maybe it's the thrill of the challenge, or… maybe it's because of you," he said with a cheeky tone, even though both were well aware of the danger they faced.
