Chapter 69 - CHAPTER 69 (S3)

Whether you want to be a zombie or not, is pretty much your choice. For the question—who would want to be a zombie, a brainless creature? That's to stay a secret, for now, at least.

"Shouldn't they be back by now? It's been at least 20 minutes." Rexine sighed, sitting upside down on a seat inside the theatre.

"And who's brilliant idea was it to send those two alone?" Perry knew who, obviously. But it was a stupid decision anyway.

Barging inside the theatre, both Axelle and Waylen panting. Axelle yelled, "Guys, we have to leave, immediately!" Axelle yelled in a panicked voice. Waylen merely nodded.

Now the group, being alarmed, started going up the stairs towards them. Maverick stayed behind, grabbing his things.

"What's going on?" Darren asked, his eyes narrowing.

"The zombies, they're different. It's almost like they're human. We seriously need to leave." Axelle explained, looking back, as if they had only a matter of time.

"Wh.. hold on—" Perry started.

"No, you'll understand, trust me. But right now there's no holding on." Waylen tried to stay calm, yet his voice and words betrayed him.

"Fine. Lead the way." Rexine chimed in. Maverick caught up, about to say something, before Rexine shot him a glare, silencing him for good.

Axelle wasted no time rushing out of the theatre out into the main lobby. There, a few zombies roamed around mindlessly.

"This way!" Axelle called out to the rest, Waylen beside her.

The group didn't dare to disobey. They took the emergency exit, rushing out. Yeah—whoa.

There was a huge crowd of zombies around a specific building. The building Perry thought looked oddly familiar, yet had an odd feel to it. She felt it before, but back then she was either too young or too distracted to realize it. It was so sudden she didn't question it, but pushed the feeling back. For now, at least.

"What the—It's bloody crowded!" Eli yelled, as the group sprinted to their van.

"Yeah, we have eyes. Don't know what we'd do without ya, Eli!" Waylen yelled even in a situation as they were in right now.

Without much further talking, they made it safely to their van. When they got inside, they awaited a surprise.

"Dave? You're back?" Darren seemed stunned. But there wasn't time for that. Christian took the wheel, and Ruby beside him.

"Where are we heading to?" he asked, turning the engine on.

"Anywhere away from here!" Axelle answered, still catching her breath.

"Roger that.." he sighed. Christian started the van, and started driving. That was before, they all heard a thud behind them as if someone bumped straight into the van. Christian glanced back from the rear view mirror.

A zombie? It was clawing at the back window, as if trying to break the glass. Leaving drool all over the back, mixed with blood. Alright—what the hell? Perry thought, turning back to get a look.

Gross.

The zombie fell though, after Christian started to drive away. But why was it.. using force? Is what all of them would think. Usually, zombies didn't. They'd only be able to get so far. But the one they just encountered was using force—not to mention it ran to the van. As if it knew they were going to leave.

"This is getting creepy weird." Rexine muttered, relaxing a bit in her seat trying to calm down a bit.

"They're different. Like, really different." Ruby stated, looking back, trying to see if the zombies were still following.

"When will this hell ever end..?" Waylen mumbled more so as a groan.

Driving away, Christian also couldn't help but be speeding quite a bit, desperate to get away. The Organization. Was this their doing? Even so, how could they get a whole horde of zombies crowded together like that—or a better question, why would they want to?

Who knows.

Driving on, it's been at least 30 minutes. Now probably far away from the zombies. Or so—they thought. Christian made a right, immediately pressing on the breaks. Another army of zombies? Does it ever end?

"What the hell? Again?!? I made sure I was far away!" Christian yelled in frustration, moving slightly further, trying to make a U-turn back.

Christian started to speed away, now sure he was away.

"Remember what I said. It's your choice.. though it'll have consequences." Nathan bitterly spoke, glaring right at Nicole.

Nicole, who was at the doorway to leave with a crowbar and baseball bat. "Bye." Nicole replied just with the same bitterness.

Nicole turned around, shutting the door behind him. He was determined. Determined to go back and prove to the others he wasn't a traitor. He just—he wanted to believe his sister wasn't dead. Everything he said, although he regretted it deeply, was true, not an exaggeration. He did owe his sister his life. There were too many times to count, the times Lyra had made him feel safe, comfortable.. Helped him lose anxiety he'd been feeling for far too long. She was kind, selfless and perfect in his eyes. As the younger sibling, he refused to believe she was dead. to even have seen her in that state broke him.

"I need to find them," Nicole mumbled under his breath, looking both ways before taking a route that'd be less crowded by brainless creatures.

Did Perry and the others not feel even a little bad for him after he said that? But—to be fair, he left. Why would they concern themselves with his business? But… not even Perry?

Deep down, all he wanted was peace. He didn't want to have to choose. Choose? Is he crazy?—Obviously he'd pick Perry and the others over the organization. But he felt especially guilty for leaving Ruby. The confession never left his mind. Safe to say; he felt the same way about her.

Maybe, one day. Maybe a day where they're all sitting on sand at the beach, catching up after the apocalypse, where they can all be at peace. Pfft. He was delusional now?

Boy, what the organization has done to him.

He started towards the last place he saw them—near the tall building. He wondered if they were still there. There was no other way to find out, was there?

He gripped the baseball bat tighter, holding it at his shoulder, ready to swing at any moment. Walking wasn't the most preferable method of transportation, but he'd bear with it to find the rest.
