Chapter 149 - Chapter 149: The Hero Finds His Rest

Chapter 149: The Hero Finds His Rest

The grand sky-city floated silently in the air, its shadow almost completely enveloping the Demon King's castle. A holy light fell from it like a waterfall, and in its path, the swirling demonic miasma dissipated. Some of the weaker magical beasts, caught in the light, were turned to ash before they could even scream.

At the very top of the highest temple of the holy city, a white figure was visible. A pair of large, white wings, now shimmering with a silver light, were spread out behind her. It was Olivia. Her hands were clasped together, and she was concentrating, controlling the entire Heavenly Kingdom.

Alia, on the ground below, also saw her, a complex emotion in her eyes. Olivia... her last creation, and her most promising. If not for... what had happened, she would have become the head of the Council of Thirteen, and would have led the Sky-Winged under her own divine light for all eternity. But there were no 'if's. Her life-formula had been rewritten. She was no longer her child. And when she had offered to restore their bond, she had been refused. She didn't understand. Why would she refuse to return to her creator's embrace? But her question would never be answered. Perhaps even Olivia herself did not know.

Looking up at the Heavenly Kingdom, the city she herself had built, a thousand thoughts went through her mind. What was that human planning to do? Was he after her Pool of Faith?

Just then, Rhodes felt his teleportation circle activate. "It seems I have to go for a bit."

"How long will you be? You're not going to disappear for another few decades, are you? I won't have it," she said, to make it perfectly clear. She knew what he was about to do. She was surprised Kraft had been so fast; it had only been five years.

"Don't worry. I'll be right back. I've set up a return circle."

"Oh."

"Do you want to come?"

"No. I'll wait for you here."

"Alright." She watched as the light of the teleportation circle enveloped him, and just before he disappeared, she couldn't help but call out, "Be careful! And don't keep me waiting too long!" But he was already gone.

In the deepest part of the Demon King's castle, the being known as Asmodeus, or Eirik, looked up. He could feel it, that familiar aura. And in his eyes, in the depths of the darkness that had consumed him, a small, yet clear, spark of Eirik's own light was rekindled.

"You're finally here, Rhodes. I've been waiting for so long."

He could feel it, the power that was about to descend upon him, the power that would bring him his final destruction. Even the corrosive will within him could feel it, the familiar scent of the god-slayer.

In a last, desperate struggle, the corruption tried to once again consume Eirik's soul. But this time, he did not resist. He let go of his last vestiges of control, and let the darkness take him, and waited for his judgment.

In the sky-city, at the top of the temple, Olivia, at his command, began to cast a massive spell. The entire city began to glow with an intense light, and as she chanted, the immense power of the Pool of Faith was drawn forth, a torrent of pure destruction that was then shaped into a massive waterfall of light and aimed at the castle below, at the struggling, possessed figure of his old friend.

The will that now inhabited Eirik's body tried to resist. It threw up a barrier that covered the entire castle. But the waterfall of light descended, and the barrier shattered in an instant. The light consumed the castle, and the countless magical beasts and demons within it were annihilated before they could even scream. Even the highest spire, where the dark throne sat, was erased from existence.

At the heart of the light, only a single figure remained, bound in a cage of golden light. And in that cleansing fire, in that endless pain, the last of the Goddess of Procreation's will finally met its end, leaving behind only a small wisp of black matter.

From the cliffside, Kraft watched, a mixture of awe and a deep, profound sadness in his heart.

The boy who had once dreamed of being a great warrior had finally found his rest. It was over.

Alia watched as the light of purification faded, as Eirik's form dissolved, leaving behind only that wisp of black matter. She opened her hand, and it flew to her, a final remnant of a fallen god.

Rhodes slowly lowered his hand.

The Heavenly Kingdom, having unleashed its final, devastating blow, quickly dimmed, and a new magic circle appeared, and the grand city vanished.

The Demon King's castle, and all the pain it held, was now gone from this world, leaving only a deep, bottomless crater.
