His eyes widened slightly. A flame of resentment died in his heart.
What the fuck.
His hand moved slowly as he masked his surprise, and it turned into something different, more akin to shock.
He bolted upright and gazed past his pretty sister. Her eyebrow rose quizzically at his actions. "Okay," he mumbled. "This is not weird... at all."
He took in his surroundings. It appeared to be a humble one-bedroom apartment. How did he know that?
Well, first of all, it looked cheap, and second of all...
"Hold on, Nari-ya, Oppa just has to freshen up in the bathroom, and then I'll drop you off like I promised," he spoke, voice distant. The small girl nodded happily as he got up from the bed.
He trekked his way to the bathroom in small, measured steps, reassuring himself mentally that he was not going insane.
He entered the small bathroom and gently shut the door, slumping down against it and holding his head in his hands. He was freaking out.
Why?
Because he'd just gotten the memories of this original body, or his own, just in a... different universe.
He cursed under his breath, and his head throbbed lightly. With all the memories that rushed in, he'd think he lived two lives—which, yeah, he might've.
But seriously?! An alternate universe?! The omegaverse?!
Baek Nari, his little sister, knocked on the door. "Oppa, if we don't leave soon, I'll be late!"
He rubbed his face, deep in contemplation. "Yup, I'm coming out right now!" he replied and stood up.
Before leaving, he wanted to check his reflection in the mirror to see if his memories served him right. Placing one hand on the cold sink and the other on his chin, he tilted and observed it closely, looking for any different things.
He looked pretty much the same, just the tiniest bit more feminine.
Which, he wasn't complaining because he apparently was a dominant omega anyway. Both of his hands curiously trailed downwards.
If he recalled, both his hips and butt were—oh.
Yep, a very slim waist and a very, very juicy assthat was paired perfectly with his hips.
Damn, he was even more attractive than he was before. So sexy.
But his sister was also just as pretty, even though she's only 10. He guesses it just runs in the family. She was even beautiful in the other world, even though he saw her only once.
"Oppa!" Nari screamed, barely muffled from the other side.
Right. He had to drop off his sister at school. He promised her.
He'll think about life some other time, preferably before work and right after dropping Nari off.
He fixed up his bed head and looked down at his clothes. They were suitable enough for dropping his sister off. Maybe he should've brushed his teeth?
Eh, he'll do it after dropping his sister off. He brushed back his hair and unlocked the door, where an unhappy Baek Nari stood. Her cheek puffed out cutely, and her shoulders held her red backpack.
"Nari-ya, let's go," he said gently. That seemed to put out her burning fire and replaced it with happiness. Nari smiled widely. She took his larger hand in hers and guided him towards the door. He grabbed the keys and his cheap, foldable fan he bought on sale after Nari broke their only electric one.
They both put on their shoes, and Iseul opened the door. As they stepped out, Iseul made sure to lock it. They can't have people stealing the small amount of stuff they had, can they?
Iseul and Nari made their way down the stairs carefully, hand in hand—well, that was until they were on the ground and Nari spotted her best friend, Park Jinae.
Park Jinae and Nari had been best friends ever since they moved into this apartment after their parents passed away 5 years ago. Iseul had also become close to Park Jinae's mother, Park Jiwon.
Park Jiwon was their neighbor from the complex right across from them. The four had met on one fateful park meeting, and now he considers her his Noona. She's always nice and brings over side dishes and other things when they visit.
As they stepped out from the shade of their apartment complex, the sun hit them fiercely. "I should've worn sunscreen before walking out," he huffed out. He'll turn into a tomato at this rate!
He watched unconcerned as Nari ran toward Jinae. Iseul held one hand above his head to block the sun and the other held his fan. Even if it only blew hot air towards him, at least it did something. Summer in South Korea was not fun.
Just as Nari was about to reach Jinae, something happened. A large gust of wind blew through the surrounding area, and that's when Iseul felt it—that familiar, unmistakable, gut-wrenching feeling.
A gate had appeared, and Nari had walked straight through it.
"Baek Nari!" He screamed.
He heard Park Jiwon from the other side screaming, and Park Jinae, crying in shock.
Gates. Supernatural phenomena that appeared in this world 30 years ago. Along with gates came hunters—extremely powerful humans who "awakened" and have supernatural powers that could combat the gates that human weapons couldn't.
Gates are each divided by rank, which determines their risk level. A group of hunters of the same rank and higher enter these to combat and close them successfully.
Once you enter a gate, you have about 5 minutes to enter it before it gets sealed off from the outside world. Anyone who enters within that time frame can't leave until the boss is defeated. If the gate isn't sealed within 5 days, it leads to a "dungeon break," or a "red gate," in which the gate turns from blue to red. The monsters inside the gate break free and rampage in the world.
Baek Iseul stood still. Baek Nari had just entered one of these things. "Fuck," he whispered before sprinting towards it.
"Jiwon Noona!" he yelled. "Call 119 or the Hunters' Association Now!" Iseul didn't wait for a response before he leaped in, disappearing from the world.
"O-okay!" Baek Jiwon responded, albeit a little late. Her fingers trembled as she struggled to pull out her phone and type.
"119! What's your emergency?" the female voice answered. "A-ah, yes! Um, a gate... yes, a gate opened up here on XXX street, right in front of the apartment complexes, and my friend and his little sister entered it... alone."
"On XXX road? Let me check..." the woman responded politely. Then Jiwon heard a sharp intake of breath. Jiwon's stomach dropped.
"Yes, that gate is S-Rank... I just got the notification." The words stood above her like a guillotine. Jiwon pulled the phone away from her ear and looked at the disaster notification. It was, in fact, S-Rank. Her eyes repeatedly reread the street name on the notification, making sure she didn't read it wrongly.
It was S-Rank.
