The second use of his avatars was to act as Aiden's eyes within those dimensions.
From the main world Aiden could not see the full scale of the other dimensions using his dimensional sight alone. At his level the dimensional sight only offered him different random views of the other dimension which he could use as entry points.
And finally to act as safeguards, should there have any miscalculation. But hopefully that part wouldn't happen

Aiden had chosen this method for a few reasons.
First, a single avatar wouldn't be able to stay behind and maintain the portals while he entered the dimensions himself. The link between them would eventually fail, and the portals would collapse.
Second, this approach was much faster for rescuing everyone. He couldn't depend on how far his avatars could move within each dimension before their range began to weaken.
