🌙 Chapter 13 –Â
The air between us was too heavy to breathe.
His gaze locked on mine like he could read every thought I was trying to bury.
"Don't look at me like that," I whispered.
"Like what?" His voice was low, almost dangerous.
"Like you remember."
He didn't answer. Instead, he reached up and tucked a loose strand of hair behind my ear, his fingertips lingering just long enough to make my pulse trip.
I stepped back. "You can't just show up and—"
"And what?" His tone sharpened. "Pretend I never mattered to you? Pretend we never happened?"
"I'm trying to move on, Jace."
He laughed bitterly, but there was no humor in it. "If you were really over me, you wouldn't be here."
He was right.
And I hated him for it.
I turned to leave, but he caught my wrist—gently, not like he was trapping me, but like he was afraid to let go.
"I'm not the same person I was," he said. "I'm not asking you to trust me. Just… don't shut me out."
The words almost broke me. But before I could respond, I saw movement in the corner of my eye.
Someone was watching us.
