Chapter 51 - Chapter 51 : Electric Shock

Time: 11:50 PM. Daniel and the Professor had arrived at Rose's hut. As Peter had said, the two of them were waiting for it to reach midnight. Outside, Peter, Dr. John, and Francis were standing. There was a strong emotion on the doctor's face. Since the others had fallen asleep, they did not try to wake them up. Because even if everyone came, it would not make any particular difference there. Ten minutes passed quickly. The Professor moved the curtain of the hut and spoke to the doctor outside.

"Dr. John, it's time to give Rose the shock." The doctor nodded in response.

Those standing outside the tent anxiously imagined what was about to unfold inside. Yet, on Francis's face, not a single emotion appeared.

A bowl of seawater had already been collected and placed inside the tent beforehand. Daniel dipped two pieces of cloth into it, then wrapped one around the lower part of her wrist and the other around her shoulder.

His eyes fixed on her face. With every breath, Rose's chest and stomach gently rose and fell.

"Can a man really lie asleep like this for three days? That too, without drinking a single drop of water or eating any food."

It was the thought that rushed into Daniel's mind.

By this time, Professor Charles had already connected the positive and negative to the 12v battery.

"Daniel, are you ready?"

Hearing the professor's voice, Daniel's body trembled for a moment. He was the one entrusted with the responsibility of giving Rose the shock to wake her up. That thought created the feeling of fear in his heart.

Francis's words also rushed into his mind.

"A hero is not someone without fear. A hero is the one who decides to move forward even when fear exists."

Those words gave Daniel strength.

"I will be the one to wake her from the valley of sleep."

Daniel gathered courage into his heart.

"Professor, I am ready," Daniel said to Charles in a strong, determined voice.

Luminous Isle

Lucy was now eighty years old. She had completely transformed into the very image of the grandmother she once resembled. Sitting on a wooden armchair, she was reading an old history book.

Beside her, on a small wooden table, rested a cup of hot black tea. Steam rose from it, curling upward and blending into the air. Lucy's eyesight had now grown weak.

For this, a solution had recently been discovered on Luminous Isle. It was Edwin Clarke's latest experiment. He had continued his research on the very creature that had once been used to create light. From it, he realized new forms of objects could still be crafted.

He discovered that with its tears, an object could be made one that could aid those who had lost their vision. But to preserve those tears, he needed a sealed object.

In the days that followed Edwin Clark was conducting the search for it. To assist him, he also organized a few people from the island. But since such a sealed object could not be found from the island itself, he decided to go into the sea to complete his experiment. But he assured himself that he would not go too far. Knowing that they would have to go into the sea, most of the people who had been with him abandoned that duty. In the end, only three individuals remained with Edwin Clark. None of this turned him away from that one thing. Even though he knew that going into the sea was a very great danger, he was ready for it.

On that one island, only the Stormholt family had the knowledge to build a ship to go into the sea. But many years ago, a few from this family had built a ship and went into the sea. However, none of them were able to return. Because of that, the number of members in the Stormholt family decreased. Now altogether there were only four people in that one family. They were the ones who had not gone on that sea voyage. All four of them were men. To them, Edwin Clark requested to build a ship. At first, they refused, but later they agreed to it. There were two reasons for that. First, if such a sealed object was found, it would be very useful for the people on this island who had no sight. Second, it was during the time when that filthy king was on this island that the sea monsters had become more dangerous. Now, since this island was under the protection of The Great Light, they believed that the sea monsters would not cause great harm. Thus, the Stormholt family made a small type of ship for Edwin Clark. And so, together with him, four people set out on a voyage into the sea.

They had brought food for a week.

But even after 12 days had passed, since they had not returned, the people on the shore became afraid. But on the morning of the thirteenth day, that ship came near the shore. The four people who had gone into the sea were on the ship. Their journey had been successful. Edwin Clark found the enclosed object he needed. It was obtained from a cave that was at the bottom of the sea.

Its shape was that of the Lunora Fruit, a type of fruit on the island. It was after the death of the king that they began cultivating the Lunora Fruit there. If a circle is cut into half, that was the shape the Lunora Fruit . Since the shape was that of this fruit, Edwin Clark gave that object a name, "Lunora Crystal."

Although many objects had been obtained from the sea, all of them could hold the tear only for a few moments before it perished. But this object, obtained from the cave at the bottom of the sea, had the ability to preserve that tear without it vanishing. However, he did not know how long it would last. He had taken thousands of Lunora Crystals from that cave. Thus, he continued his experiments with the Lunora Crystal.

For about 10 years, he realized that the object had the ability to preserve the creature's tear itself. Thus, he continued the experiment of making it. He decided that one Lunora Crystal could be divided into 15 parts. In this way, from a single Lunora Crystal itself, he could create 15 devices for sight. Thus, using 100 Lunora Crystals, he made them. For the tears, he had already started breeding that creature. Since the number of creatures was small, he decided to make only one hundred for now.

And so, after 15 years of hardship, he completed it. The object that gave sight to the eyes was given a name: "LUNA."

Its shape was circular. This device was in blue color. At its end, a string was attached, and by putting that into the ear in a wearable manner, this LUNA, the object that gives vision, was made. That means it is enough to use it only when needed. At all other times it can be kept in the pocket. But its drawback is that it can be used only for ten years. Now Lucy had to use the device called LUNA. Using that, Lucy was reading a book. While reading, Lucy began to feel fatigue. She slowly closed the book and drank the remaining tea in the cup. After putting LUNA into the pocket, Lucy slowly leaned back into the chair. Very soon the tremor in the body disappeared. The legs became motionless. The eyes completely lost life. Lucy, sitting in the armchair, took her last breath.

.....

The island where the passengers were trapped.

Daniel, with firm determination, struck the wires coming from the battery onto the two cloths. The 12V current from the battery rose to 10 milliampere (10 mA) and entered into Rose's body. As the current went into her body, the whole body trembled. Daniel immediately removed the wires from the cloth. Both of them looked at her face. But her eyes were still closed. After three seconds, Daniel again placed the ends of the wires onto the cloth soaked in salt water. This time 20 milliampere current entered into Rose's body. It made all the muscles in her body tremble. As if struck hard, from that valley of sleep, Rose suddenly opened her eyes. As soon as she opened her eyes, Daniel removed from her body the wet cloth and the wires placed on it. Rose's whole body began to shiver. Her hands and legs were not moving. The doctor immediately came inside the tent and started rubbing her hands and legs together to warm her body. For about five minutes the doctor continued that action. At last, by the doctor's effort, the shivering in Rose's body stopped. Her eyesight had already returned. All of Rose's memories came back into her mind.

"Rose, does your body feel relief now?" The doctor repeated the same question again. She shook her head in reply.

"Do you want to say something?"

"I am hungry." This was the first thing she wanted to say to them. Because of sleeping for three days, severe hunger had caught her. When Rose woke from sleep, roasted pork had already been kept inside the tent for her to eat. The doctor gave it to her to eat. As soon as she finished eating, Rose drank all the water from a bottle into her stomach. Eating the meat reduced the hunger in her body a little. They were happy that Rose could be awakened without any danger. Except the doctor, everyone else went outside.

"Now Rose won't be in any more danger, right?" Daniel asked Peter for reassurance.

"We have awakened Rose from her sleep, and that went well. But i cannot yet say that she has completely escaped from the spirit world." Hearing this reply, the expression on Daniel's face changed.

"Why did you say that, Peter?"

"If she wakes up tomorrow morning without any trouble, then we can say she is completely free from everything." Daniel, who had thought all the danger was over, was again filled with anxiety upon hearing this.

"Because of the long sleep, Rose will not be able to sleep at all tonight. Someone must stay with her in the tent for the whole day. It would be best if that person is doctor. If she faces any discomfort, doctor being there would help. Peter explained this to the two who stood outside, and then to the doctor as well. After seating Dr. John beside Rose, the three of them returned to their tents. By Rose's side, Dr. John sat silently. The only sign of life was the soft of her breathing in and out."

"Doctor, I am not still inside a dream, am I? Because I lived an entire human life in a dream world. That still awakens both beauty and terror in my heart. Every moment I spent there is still perfectly clear in my memory. Is there something you're not telling me? When I look at your face, it feels as though something is being hidden from me. Tell me what it is… From what I experienced, I can guess that whatever you're hiding is not as terrifying as it seems."

At first, the doctor hesitated to speak, but at Rose's insistence, he explained what he had heard from Peter. When she heard it, no change appeared on her face. That astonished the doctor.

But he did not ask her about it.

"The wish you fulfilled in the spirit world was not the most important one in your life, was it? It was only a small desire. That is why my heart tells me that nothing will happen to you," Dr. John said, though his voice trembled as he spoke. Rose had been listening to all of this with her eyes closed. Then she slowly opened her eyes to speak what was in her heart.

"Doctor, what I told you was a lie. The wish I fulfilled in the spirit world was the most important one in my life."

"What are you saying? I don't understand," the doctor asked, raising his voice at her.

"There is nothing difficult to understand… I am going to die, Doctor."

Her words froze the doctor's body more than the cold outside ever could.
