Chapter 6 - A Temporary Guardian

In the midst of a forest where trees surround many nipa huts, one of the residents steps out of the house, and he looks around.

A shadow flies past him, and he follows it. A humanoid lands on the ground, and that humanoid is a young woman with a beautiful face, wearing a school uniform known to be a white polo shirt paired with a blue skirt, and a pair of dark shoes.

"A skinwalker!" The resident immediately grabs a wooden spear beneath a hut.

The resident throws the spear at the humanoid, Coseria. Her back shakes, and a venus flytrap with a large head emerges from her back. The venus flytrap bites the spear, breaking it in half with one chomp.

"Wrong move. No vile creature is allowed to hit Coseria!" Coseria yelled in anger.

From her back, more venus flytrap comes out with open mouths, and the sight causes the resident to tremble with his eyes growing wide. In the blink of an eye, everyone in the small village is killed, all of them are lying on the ground with missing arms, legs, and some are missing their lower half with their blood dripping.

The nipa huts are destroyed with blood splattered on the walls. Coseria licks her lips as her venus flytraps are floating around her. "If you want, you can eat the remaining bodies but it will be better if the guardians find them here.

"In that way, they will know that a crisis is now walking under the broad daylight."

Afterwards, a young woman with green short hair arrives, and she looks around her. The sight of blood and mutilated human bodies creates an anger in her heart. Green energy appears around her hands, and she expands it onto a spear.

"I'll trace the killer of my people!"

She walks toward one of the mutilated bodies and points her hand at it. "No energy. How can I know who killed them?"

Hours later, inside a cafe, Nicholas serves coffee in glass jars with a smile on his face.

"Order for Aaron!"

"Thanks." the customer raised the tray with two glass jars filled with coffee.

After many hours of serving orders, Nicholas is sitting in a chair in front of a window while scrolling on his phone with a sandwich in his other hand.

"Alright! I have no assignment," his eyes widened, "oh, there's one from Nelly. That lazy President."

The sound of bells chiming upon the door opening causes Nicholas to divert his gaze to it. His eyes recognise the man who entered the establishment.

"Oh, Nash. What are you doing here?"

Nash smiles at Nicholas and points at the counter. "Can you make me 1 espresso?"

Nicholas stares at him before nodding. He stands up and walks toward the counter. "Sure, you can sit while waiting."

"How long have you been working here?" Nash asked while looking around the cafe.

Nicholas watches the machine pour coffee into a cup. "Weeks."

"There are so many weeks, don't leave me guessing," Nash chuckled.

"Yeah! 2 weeks." Nicholas walked towards where Nash was sitting.

Nicholas places the order on the table. "One cup of espresso."

Nash stares at Nicholas as he walks behind the counter before taking a sip of his espresso.

Bringing his brush, Nash began to draw on the pages of his sketchbook.

"I know what I know, and I know what I'll suspect," Nash whispered.

Lightning appears in the dark sky, it comes in different patterns but one striking sound is enough to scare anyone. Along the trees of a forest, a woman with a pair of green eyes swings her spear. Half of every tree's leaves fly in different directions, and she brushes her thumb against her cheek.

"Is it raining?" she whispered.

"Finally, I found you."

The woman turns to the voice of the one who spoke. A bitter gaze forms on the face of the woman with green eyes, and she throws her spear at the trespasser but a venus flytrap captures it with its mouth.

Back at the cafe, Nicholas catches sight of the passerby from the corner of his eye. His green eyes turn red, and Nicholas narrows his eyes.

"What do you mean?" Nicholas talked through their connection.

"The monster has caught up with the guardian," the passerby answered with red eyes and red aura hugging his body. Nash who's staring at Nicholas, swings his fingers gently, and from the page of his notebook, the drawing of a small beetle becomes alive.

"The world might end if they succeed, Nicholas," the passerby's red eyes glowed.

"But I have a job–!"

"If this world ends, you can't make any coffee anymore. So, fix your mind, and choose wisely."

With one pat of a cloth on his hands, Nicholas takes a deep breath and talks to himself. "I have people that I cherish. Saving this world means saving them."

The cloth slips from his grasp, and Nicholas runs out of the cafe. While running, the raindrops hit his skin but Nicholas didn't stop running as the cars stopped suddenly as he ran across the road.

He slides his hand inward his pocket and brings out a badge. Nicholas slams the badge against his chest, and the badge sticks to his skin. He inhales deeply as he crouches, and his feet release a strong pressure that sends him flying to the sky.

A pair of goggles appears in front of Nicholas' eyes, and through them, he sees an arrow pointing in a direction.

As he jumps from building to building, the woman with green eyes continues to face Coseria. She summons more flytraps from her back, and all of them fly towards the woman with green eyes.

"Who are you?!" The woman with green eyes summoned a spear, cutting the entire group of venus flytraps.

"My name is Coseria, and I came here for the crystal!" Coseria's green eyes glowed until they released beams.

"Crystal?" The woman with green eyes landed on the ground as her feet drifted against the soil.

"I won't let you have it." she jumped aside, avoiding the beam from hitting her.

"What's your name?" Coseria asked with a devilish smirk.

"Aya, the guardian of the crystal." The woman with green eyes immediately summoned another spear in her hand.

A laugh emerges from Coseria, and her eyes are filled with joy. "Finally, this saved me the energy of finding you."

Using too many flytraps, Aya struggles with turning from side to side as she swings her spear which cuts all the flytraps. Her eyes widen, and she looks over her shoulder only to find a flytrap biting on it.

"Shit!" Aya channelled her energy onto the blade of her spear, "I will not allow you to defeat me!"

"For my people!" Aya swung her spear, cutting the flytrap on her shoulder.

Coseria freezes in her place. She sees the deadly stare of Aya upon her. In the blink of an eye, Coseria meets the green eyes of Aya.

"You'd better turn into a seed." Aya clenched her fists, and multiple green spears appeared around her.

Multiple tears occur on the back of the wooden woman, and large flytraps come out of her back with their mouth open wide. The green spears fly straight to the flytraps, stabbing their mouth, and Aya creates a green spear in her hand.

"I hate plants!" Aya yelled, thrusting the spear at Coseria's chest.

"Do plants like you?" Coseria flashed Aya a sinister smile, "You're like a plant, you're easy to break! Like your fiancé that my brother slaughtered."

Aya's world stops spinning, her eyes grow wide at the memories that flood her head; the eyes of her beloved that stared at her while he took his final breath, the moments of being with him, and their vows that they practised to exchange while standing on a mountain.

"You!" Aya gritted her teeth.

Coseria smiles widely, and Aya looks down. Her eyes widen at the sight of a wooden blade piercing into her abdomen.

"Hey!" A loud masculine voice echoed came from above.

Nicholas punches Coseria right on her face before he lands on the ground. Coseria stumbles but she keeps her feet on the ground while Aya is holding her wound on her abdomen.

"Who are you to interrupt my killing spree?!" Coseria' chest heaved as her eyes narrow.

"Me? I'm just a volunteering guardian," Nicholas said, a face mask covered his mouth.
