Chapter 1 - "In the Shadow of the Dead: Memories Never Rot"

SCENE : "The Rooftop Encounter"....

The night was thick with a haunting chill as the wind whispered under the pale, eerie moonlight above the high school rooftop. Shadows danced across the surface, and silence held the air—tense, expectant.

Onjo threw her arms around Namra and began to cry, her voice trembling with both relief and pain.

"If you were alive all this time, Namra... why didn't you come to us? Why did you stay away for so long? Don't you know how much you helped us survive through this nightmare? And now, when we need you the most, why are you turning away from us? Why did you leave? Tell me!"

Namra gently placed a hand on Onjo's shoulder, her expression unreadable.

"Because I was with those who are like me now. Maybe I no longer belong with humans, Onjo... Maybe I was never meant to. I'm different from all of you."

Onjo shook her head, her eyes wide and pleading. "No, Namra. We never thought of you as different. Why would you think that?"

Su Hyeok stepped forward, a shadow of disbelief on his face. "So no one matters to you anymore? Has that nightmare really changed you that much, Namra?"

Namra looked away, pained. "It's not like that, Su Hyeok."

"Then what is it, Namra?" he demanded. "Why are you so distant? And what are you even saying? Who are these people you talk about? You're not a zombie, Namra!"

Namra raised her voice, anguish clear in her tone. "You don't know what I am. And you won't understand, not yet, Su Hyeok."

Su Hyeok grabbed her hand tightly. "You're right. I never truly understood you. That was my mistake, Namra."

Namra whispered, "Su Hyeok...?"

But he let go of her hand and instead reached for Onjo's. "Let's go, Onjo. We need to leave."

Namra stared, heart sinking. "So... is that it? You hate me now? You think I'm doing this because I want to? Because I enjoy being what I am? I'm not human anymore, Su Hyeok. Please try to understand."

Dae-su suddenly spoke, eyes narrowed. "Wait... are you like Gwi-nam now?"

Namra shot him a glance, then turned her eyes back to Su Hyeok. "Maybe. Or maybe not. I don't even know anymore. I don't think anyone wants to understand."

Su Hyeok looked at her, torn between anger and sadness.

Onjo, still holding Su Hyeok's hand, stepped forward. "Namra, who are these people? Are there more survivors?"

Park Mi-jin nudged Ha-ri with a smirk. "That's good news, right? Right, Ha-ri?"

Ha-ri rolled her eyes. Mi-jin, in her mind, chuckled. Damn, she gives killer death stares. That's my girl.

Ha-ri muttered, "Well, if they really are survivors, then..."

Namra interrupted, her voice tense. "They're not survivors. They are..."

She froze mid-sentence, her senses suddenly alert.

"They're here."

Su Hyeok asked carefully, "So you're really going back to them?"

Namra looked down. "Not forever. I'll return. But maybe... different."

Min Jae asked, "Different how?"

Namra's eyes turned cold. "You'll find out soon enough. And maybe... you won't want that day to come."

Dae-su hesitated. "W-What does that mean, Namra?"

Namra said nothing. She zipped up her hoodie, gave a crooked, sinister smile... and then, without another word, leapt from the rooftop.

The others rushed to the edge, peering down in horror and disbelief.

"Namra!" Su Hyeok shouted.

What they saw was unimaginable.

It was either the beginning of the end... or the start of a new, twisted world that none of them had dared to imagine.

Onjo gasped. "Oh my god... who are these people? Wait... do you think my Choi-san is one of them too?"

She looked to Su Hyeok with desperate hope. He held her close. "Maybe. But only time will tell."

Kim Min-ji muttered, "Oh no... is this nightmare starting again?"

Su Hyeok clenched his fists. "I don't know. But whatever this is... it's bringing destruction with it."

Below them, a massive group surged toward the forest—led by Namra.

Suddenly, a commanding voice rang out behind them.

"Hands up! All of you!"

They turned to see a squad of armed soldiers pointing guns at them.

"You're all under arrest for leaving the secured zone without authorization," the lead officer barked. "And you... Onjo, right?"

Onjo nodded slowly.

"You've been under observation for some time. You're considered suspicious. You'll be placed under special custody. You may be... special."

Su Hyeok stepped forward, furious. "What do you mean? Onjo isn't like that. She's one of us!"

Before he could say more, Onjo gently placed a hand on his arm and shook her head.

Then, without protest, she stepped forward and raised her hands for the handcuffs.

"Onjo, what are you doing? These people—"

One of the officers grabbed Su Hyeok, dragging him toward the helicopter.

Dae-su suddenly shouted, pointing to the rooftop's edge. "Sir! Over there! Look!"

But before he could say more, Ha-ri stepped in front of him.

"It's nothing, sir. He's just traumatized. That's why he's acting out."

She pressed Dae-su's arm tightly, silently warning him to stay quiet.

The officer frowned. "The truth will come out soon enough. Now get in. You'll all explain yourselves to the commissioner."

With that, they were forced into the helicopter. As the blades roared to life, the rooftop—and the world they'd barely survived—began to fade from view.

Whatever awaited them next... would be even worse.

SCENE : "The Suspicion"...

The whirring of the chopper blades sliced through the night air like knives, loud and deafening as the officers herded them inside one by one.

None of them had a choice.

With cold authority, the soldiers forced the group into the military helicopter and transported them to the Secured Area Centre, a fortified outpost on the edge of the infected zone. One by one, they were separated. Punishments were handed out for crossing the restricted perimeter without clearance. But only Onjo was taken away — locked in custody, isolated from the rest.

Inside the holding cell, the sterile lights hummed overhead. She sat silently, staring into the cold metallic wall, her hands shaking—but not from fear.

Back at the camp…

Su Hyeok clenched his fists in frustration.

"This is wrong," he growled. "They can't just hold her without proof. They have nothing on her!"

"Do you think…" Dae-su hesitated, lowering his voice, "...they suspect that Onjo might be a special infected? Like Namra?"

Ha-ri glanced over sharply. "Even if they do, they need solid evidence. They can't treat her like a threat based on guesswork. She's one of us."

Mi-jin, who had been sitting silently with her arms crossed, suddenly leaned forward.

"You all know as well as I do—there's no real sign that can confirm who's a special zombie anymore," she said grimly.

"Some of them look perfectly human. No signs. No hunger. No symptoms. Yet they're not like us."

Dae-su frowned. "What are you saying?"

Mi-jin's eyes glinted under the flickering firelight as she pointed directly at Dae-su.

"I'm saying... the special zombie could be anyone."

She smirked. "Even you."

Dae-su yelped and jumped behind Ha-ri, peeking over her shoulder like a frightened puppy.

Mi-jin burst out laughing.

"Relax, idiot. I'm mostly joking."

Ha-ri rolled her eyes. "This isn't a joke, Mi-jin."

Su Hyeok stared into the flames, his expression somber.

"Namra was a special infected too… but it was obvious with her. You could see it—her hunger, her strength, the way she talked. She felt different."

"Exactly," Ha-ri added. "If Onjo really is infected, there should've been some sign by now. But we haven't seen anything strange."

Su Hyeok nodded. "Which means… we can't just jump to conclusions."

The group sat in silence outside their makeshift tents, huddled around the fire in the dead of night. The air was thick with tension.

They weren't just worried about Onjo.

They were worried about what might be living inside her.

SCENE: "The Price of Bloodlines".....

The scene shifts to a cold, dimly lit science lab inside the secure military center. The same lab where infected patients were once kept — the air still thick with the stench of chemicals and the lingering fear of what had happened here before.

Onjo sat alone on a metal bench, her eyes staring blankly ahead. Her mind was spiraling.

Onjo (in her thoughts):

"Could I really be... one of them? A special zombie?"

She glanced down at her hands, turning them slowly, as if they might reveal the truth. But before she could think further, the sound of boots on metal flooring echoed through the hallway.

A soldier entered, his expression stern, his gun raised directly at her.

Officer:

"Stand up. You're coming with us."

Onjo didn't flinch. She rose silently, her face unreadable, and followed the officer without protest.

He led her through a corridor and stopped in front of a locked, isolated room. The heavy door creaked as he pushed it open, then gestured for her to step inside. She obeyed.

Onjo (dryly):

"So what now? Are you going to kill me? Or turn me into a living corpse for your little experiments?"

The officer didn't respond at first. He stepped back and turned to leave.

Officer:

"What happens to you... time will decide."

As he was about to exit, Onjo shouted behind him, her voice shaking.

Onjo:

"Why are you punishing me?! What have I done?!"

The officer turned slowly, walking back toward her. His expression darkened.

Officer:

"Your father betrayed us. That's all you need to know. And now… you're paying the price."

Onjo's eyes widened in disbelief, tears welling up.

Onjo:

"No... no, my dad wasn't a traitor! If it wasn't for him, I—and my friends—would be dead! He saved us!"

Her voice cracked as she screamed, the pain rising from a place she'd buried deep. But before she could say more, she felt a sudden sting in her neck.

A sharp jab.

Everything blurred.

She turned her head slowly to see someone behind her— a doctor lowering a syringe.

The world went dark.

She collapsed into the doctor's arms. He laid her carefully onto a stretcher.

Officer (furious):

"What did you do?!"

Doctor (coldly):

"I did what was necessary. Maybe you should focus on your duty, and let me do mine. Now leave."

The officer clenched his jaw but turned and stormed out. The doctor followed shortly after, leaving Onjo unconscious in the sterile silence of the lab.

Scene Shift: Outside the Camp

Back outside the military center, the group sat around a dying campfire, the silence heavier than the air.

Dae-su (confused):

"Why has Onjo charged so much...?"

Su-hyeok (voice low, pained):

"She watched her father die... and her childhood friend turn into a zombie... right in front of her.

Tell me, Dae-su — could you smile again after something like that?"

The fire crackled as they all fell silent, haunted by memories... and fear of what might still be coming.l fell silent, haunted by memories... and fear of what might still be coming.
