Chapter 41 - A Moment of Collapse

The night was cold, but not colder than Emma's heart, which was full of longing for Victor. She had finished work late, but excitement overpowered her exhaustion. She decided to surprise him by returning to their apartment earlier than planned. She hadn't told him—she wanted to see the look on his face when he found her there, waiting to spend a quiet night together after a long, tiring week.

Victor, on the other hand, had finished work hours before her. But the pressure of the day weighed on him, and he needed a moment of peace before heading home. He stopped by a nearby bar—not a place he often visited, but it offered the quiet he craved, a space to unwind before meeting Emma.

What he didn't know was that someone was watching him... Alyssa.

An old acquaintance of Clara's—not truly her friend, but rather someone who thrived on chaos and breaking things apart. When Clara left Victor and Emma's lives, Alyssa never let go of the plan they once shared. Even if Clara had abandoned it, Alyssa couldn't resist the thrill of finishing what they started.

She walked up to him confidently and sat beside him without asking.

"Didn't expect to see you here alone, Victor."

He lifted his head slowly, his voice tired as he replied, "And you are... Alyssa, right?"

She laughed softly and nodded. "Amazing, you still remember me."

Their conversation started innocently—just casual talk between two people who ran into each other. But Alyssa knew exactly how to play her game. Somehow, she convinced him to keep drinking, until his mind began to blur. He was disoriented, and Alyssa took full advantage of it.

When Victor finally decided to head home, she suggested going somewhere quieter. "You don't look so good—you need to relax somewhere more comfortable."

He wasn't fully aware of the trap being set, and by the time they got to the apartment, he had no strength left to push her away. He sat on the couch and closed his eyes for a moment, unaware as Alyssa crept closer and pressed her lips to his.

At that very moment... Emma opened the door.

She was excited to see him—but that excitement shattered instantly when her eyes took in the scene.

Her eyes widened. Her heart stopped.

Victor was there—but he wasn't alone. A girl was beside him, far too close. Her lips were on his.

Emma felt the air vanish around her. She couldn't speak, couldn't move. Everything slowed down... unbearably slow, as if time itself was punishing her.

Victor, barely aware of what was happening, didn't even notice her until Alyssa pulled back and looked toward the door. There—where Emma stood—her eyes filled with tears and rage.

"Emma..."

He spoke her name as if questioning whether she was real, but couldn't utter another word.

Emma didn't wait to hear more. She turned swiftly and left the apartment, leaving everything behind... even her soul, which felt torn apart in that moment.

Victor, now realizing what had happened, shoved Alyssa away and stood up shakily. Rage overtook him.

"What did you do?!"

Alyssa looked at him coolly, then smirked as she stood. "Me? I didn't do anything, Victor. You let it happen."

He took a few steps back, then shouted, "Get out! Now!"

She didn't look upset. On the contrary, she seemed pleased, as if she had enjoyed watching the destruction unfold. She picked up her purse and walked out calmly.

Victor, numb, rushed after Emma—but she was gone.

He called her again and again. No answer. He searched for her everywhere she might have gone. But she had vanished completely.

The next morning, he had only one option left—he went to her family's house.

But the real blow wasn't in how they greeted him—it was in the words he heard from her father:

"Emma's not here."

Victor looked at him, confused. "Where is she? I need to talk to her."

But the answer crushed him completely.

"She traveled."

"What? Where to?"

But her father gave no more answers, only a cold stare as he replied, "No one knows."

Victor stepped back, feeling like the ground beneath him had crumbled.

Emma was gone...

And maybe, gone forever.
