Chapter 4 - He’s in Heat

The great-grandma sat comfortably on the sofa, the kids snuggling up close on either side of her, wrapping their small arms around her tightly. She held them gently, a warm smile spreading across her face as she softly patted their heads.

At the other end of the sofa, Han Joon-ho—father of Seo-jun and Hye-mi—leaned back with a tired expression, his eyes heavy from the day. In the kitchen, Han Soo-yeon, the other father and Hye-mi's birth parent, was busy preparing tea with quiet care.

Seo-jun sat silently at the edge of the sofa, watching the scene unfold with a calm presence.

After a moment, Joon-ho broke the silence, his voice tinged with concern as he looked toward his mother. "Mother, why don't you just stay here with us? You don't have to go back so soon."

The old woman waved her hand dismissively. "I told you, I'm just a little tired. You didn't need to come all this way for that."

Joon-ho frowned and raised his voice a little. "Because every time, you worry us by acting like you're sick!"

Soo-yeon stepped in from the kitchen, placing a reassuring hand on Joon-ho's shoulder. "Calm down. She's fine. It's good for us all to be together."

The old woman chuckled, leaning back with a spark in her eyes. "I'm not going anywhere just yet, you know. Hahaha!"

Joon-ho sighed, shaking his head with a tired smile. "She's impossible…"

Soo-yeon simply smiled warmly. "She's happy. That's all that matters."

The twins suddenly spoke up, the boy bursting out first. "When I told my friends I have a great-grandma, they couldn't believe it! They were so shocked!"

Great-grandma laughed softly. "Well, that's because I got married pretty young."

The girl's eyes grew wide with surprise. "Really? How young?"

The old woman grinned, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Really young. Hahaha!"

Seo-jun nodded, joining in. "Yeah, Grandma was really young when she got married. I even saw the old wedding photos."

The kids' faces lit up with excitement. "No way! Can we see them?"

Seo-jun smiled and said, "Sure, I'll go get the album."

He stood up, stretching for a moment, then walked to the next room. Opening the closet, he pulled out a worn photo album, its pages yellowed with age. Returning to the living room, he sat down on the carpet with the kids and Seo Hun, who were all waiting eagerly.

The old woman and the father remained seated on the sofa, quietly watching them.

The kids carefully flipped through the album, their eyes wide as they stared at the faded black-and-white wedding pictures of the great grandmother and great grandfather.

"Great-grandma looks so young!" one of the kids exclaimed, amazement clear in their voice.

Seo-jun's thoughts drifted as he watched them. How do I explain to this generation that back in the '90s, Grandma was only fifteen when she gave birth to my father? It felt like a lifetime ago, a different world entirely.

The kids opened another album. The boy flipped to a page — and there it was, the wedding of Soo-yeon and Joon-ho.

The girl's eyes lit up. "Wow… both Grandpas look so handsome together!"

"Grandpas?" Joon-ho repeated, raising an eyebrow. He leaned in, saw the pictures, and froze. "Wait… Seo-jun, where did you get these?"

Seo-jun grinned. "Hehe… Grandma gave them to me."

Joon-ho turned to the old woman with a sharp look, but she just laughed and glanced around like nothing happened.

Right then, Soo-yeon came from the kitchen with a tray of tea and snacks. He spotted the page and smiled. "Oh, our wedding photos?"

Joon-ho sighed. "Yeah… they are."

The kids kept staring at the pictures, their eyes full of awe.

Suddenly, Seo Hun's face changed. He stood up quickly and hurried to his room without a word.

A moment later, Hye-mi came out of the kitchen, noticing everyone's eyes on Seo Hun's door.

"What happened to Uncle?" one of the kids asked.

"I'll check on him," Soo-yeon said, setting down the tray before heading to Seo Hun's room.

The old woman looked at Joon-ho. "So… did he find a partner yet?"

Joon-ho shook his head. "No, not yet."

She raised her eyebrows. "You know, he's the only omega in our family. He needs a partner."

Hye-mi stepped in quickly. "Grandma, calm down."

"I am calm," the old woman replied. "I'm just saying what's true."

Hye-mi sighed. "Yes, I know."

"I'm looking for a girl for him," Joon-ho said.

The old woman leaned forward. "Did you even ask him if he wants to marry a man or a woman?"

Joon-ho paused. "Not yet."

Meanwhile, in the bedroom, Seo-jun sat on the bed with a blanket wrapped tightly around him. His body trembled — the heat cycle was making it hard for him to calm down.

Soo-yeon entered quietly, setting some supplements on the table. "Here, take these."

When Seo-jun still couldn't settle, Soo-yeon took his hand and led him to the bathroom. He turned on the shower, letting the cool water run.

"Take care of yourself," Soo-yeon said gently, closing the bathroom door behind him as he left.

Soo-yeon walked back into the lounge. Everyone turned to look at him.

"He's in heat," Soo-yeon said quietly.

Hye-mi, who had been sitting with the kids as they drank their milk, stood up. "Alright, kids. Let's go. It's bedtime."

He led the twins to their room and closed the door behind them.

Joon-ho's eyes stayed fixed on Soo-yeon, his expression tense.

Soo-yeon met his gaze calmly. "He'll take care of it."
