The drive back to the Omega chambers was silent. Rain had begun to fall, soft against the tinted glass, blurring the world outside into silver streaks. The hum of the car engine was the only sound between them.
Xavier sat beside her, hands clasped loosely, eyes fixed on the road ahead though he wasn't the one driving. His jaw was tight… not in anger, but in restraint.
Athena sat stiffly, watching her reflection flicker faintly in the window. The word still echoed in her head like a curse.

When the car came to a stop outside her chambers, Athena finally spoke, her voice became low but sharp. "Why did you tell him?"
Xavier turned his head slightly, his expression unreadable. "Because he needed to know. Because he's the only one who knows your secret and should keep this quiet and to protect you."
"Protect me?" She repeated, her laugh bitter. "By making me the object of some… title to be obeyed? You think that helps me, Xavier? That it keeps me safe?"
