Every now and then, for days on end, they searched for Nephis, but they could never find her. No clues, no tracks, no ideas... nothing.
The reason why Cassie came back disheveled with marks on her was because they went days on end exploring essentially a jungle full of horrifying, unpredictable creatures.
Effie and Kai led the hunting part of the dark city, so they had no time to help search anyway—well, not that it would help. He tried to get Pauline's help, but it led them nowhere, which meant Nephis was out of distance for it. In the end, though, Sunny wasn't sad or mad or anything of the sort.
He understood now, so he'd wait. When she comes back, he won't apologize to her, but he'll let her come back to this decently peaceful place... well, when she comes back, they'll have to put on a show and have her take the "throne" from him, but they'll get there when they get there. Until then, he'd just take things as they came at him.
Sunny decided to complete a task he'd been meaning to. He was going to explore the cathedral where the knight creature was. After all, something so deadly couldn't have been guarding nothing. Plus, he needed some fresh air—the only time he'd ever gone out was to explore the surroundings.
Well, he technically still was doing that... he'd just consider it a vacation in his brain. Sadly, it wouldn't be one for his heart.
Shaking his head, he headed out to the cathedral.
---
On his way, surprisingly, he didn't run into any nightmare creatures. When he got inside, he found that the infrastructure of the place seemed surprisingly well-kept despite its age. Going through corridor after corridor, he found nothing.
"Well, this was a waste of tim—"
Before he could finish, he noticed a seemingly hidden room. When he managed to get inside, he saw a skeleton inside a circle wearing a horrifying mask that seemed to belong to a demon. Though, he recognized that mask from Auro's memories.
"Weaver..."
He didn't waste time and grabbed the mask, ignoring the risk of a curse or something falling upon him. When he did, the skeleton turned to dust and a sound rang out.
[You have received a memory.]
"Well damn... I guess it wasn't useless after all."
When he was about to check it out, he heard a loud thud coming from nearby. He summoned his memory and jumped out of the passageway. Dust cleared as he saw the collapsed ceiling. He couldn't make out the figure in the dust, so he slashed his blade with enough force to send a decent gust of wind to blow it away.
That's when he saw it... or rather, saw her.
Disheveled and long silver hair with black roots appeared as Nephis groaned, sitting up.
When she met his eyes, hers widened like saucers before narrowing, and her face tensed. With an awkward wave, she spoke one word.
"Sup."
"DON'T SUP ME!"
He had found Nephis.
