On the street.
Vendors stopped shouting. Children halted their play.
Every villager turned their eyes away, careful not to meet the gaze of Fugaku and the other two. Even the ninja academy students, seeing the trio approach, took alternate routes to avoid them.
"That's them… the three Uchiha who possess the Mangekyō Sharingan."
"I heard the Nine-Tails' attack years ago was caused by someone controlling the beast with that very power. Was it them?"
"Don't ask. It must've been."
The villagers' whispers carried clearly to Shisui's ears, making his heart sink.
When the Nine-Tails Rebellion occurred, he had been away on a mission and only learned of the disaster afterward.
Otherwise, he would have used his Mangekyō to stop the rampaging beast himself — to save the Fourth Hokage, to prevent Konoha's destruction, and to spare the Uchiha from the hatred that now shadowed them.
As for who truly controlled the Nine-Tails that night — whether it was the patriarch, or someone else — Shisui dared not ask.
And now, the answer no longer mattered.
Compared to Shisui's silent grief, Duan had no patience for whispers.
It didn't matter what these people said — but the sound of their buzzing voices, circling like flies, irritated him beyond reason.
He narrowed his eyes.
Just one cold glance swept across the street.
Every villager who felt that gaze — even those who hadn't looked directly — felt a chill crawl down their spines, their blood freezing as though death itself had brushed past.
Their faces drained of color, and all voices fell silent.
The street grew eerily quiet.
The three continued walking.
---
"Ah! We're gonna be late!"
A loud, boyish voice rang out. From a nearby alley burst a blonde-haired child, sprinting with a schoolbag bouncing on his back.
It was Naruto Uzumaki.
The moment villagers saw him, their expressions twisted again — the same fear and disgust they'd shown the Uchiha, perhaps even worse.
They stepped aside, unwilling to let the "demon fox child" pass too close.
Naruto, however, seemed unbothered — either because of his big heart, or because he had long grown used to such treatment.
Then, spotting the three Uchiha, he paused — and brightened.
"Mr. Duan! That barbecue you treated me to yesterday was amazing! I forgot to say thank you, sorry! Hehe!"
He grinned up at Duan, blue eyes shining with childish sincerity.
"You're welcome," Duan replied evenly. "I told you before — I'll need your help someday. Don't forget that."
Naruto thumped his chest proudly.
"If you ever need me, just ask! Naruto Uzumaki never goes back on his word! That's my Ninja Way!"
As Naruto spoke, Fugaku's expression hardened.
Others might not recognize this boy, but he did.
His wife Mikoto and the Fourth's wife, Kushina Uzumaki, had been inseparable since youth — their children born only months apart.
Sasuke was two months older than Naruto.
A blonde boy named Uzumaki, called the "demon fox" by villagers… there was no doubt.
He was the Fourth Hokage's son — the current Nine-Tails' jinchūriki.
Fugaku didn't understand why the village's elders treated the son of a hero like this, but he knew one thing for certain —
The higher-ups did not want the Uchiha anywhere near Naruto.
Especially not these three — all Mangekyō users.
"Duan," Fugaku said sharply, "when did you meet this child?"
"Yesterday," Duan answered without hesitation. "He was hungry while wandering the market. I bought him a meal."
Then, turning to Naruto, he asked casually, "Had breakfast today?"
"Let's go."
Fugaku cut him off quickly, his voice firm. He didn't want this encounter to continue — not when Konoha's watchful eyes were everywhere.
But it was already too late.
---
Whssht!
Two ANBU appeared in a flicker of movement — one wearing a boar mask, the other a frog — stepping between Naruto and the Uchiha.
"What's the meaning of this?" Duan's tone dropped, calm yet razor-edged.
"Stay away from the boy," one ANBU warned coldly. "If you value your peace."
Duan chuckled.
He didn't move, but his voice grew sharper, carrying effortlessly across the street.
"What boy? He has a name. Uzumaki Naruto… the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki, isn't that right?"
The words hit like a blade drawn in silence.
Shua!
Both ANBU stiffened — instantly drawing their ninjatō, the tips aimed squarely at the Uchiha trio.
He knew.
This man knew Naruto's true identity.
Fugaku exhaled heavily. As expected, Duan wouldn't have approached a random child without reason.
Shisui, meanwhile, was stunned.
Nine-Tails' jinchūriki? He focused his chakra sense — and indeed, within Naruto's body, an immense presence coiled like a sleeping monster.
Naruto blinked at all of them, confused.
"Mr. Duan, why'd you say that? What's a jinchūriki?"
Duan met his gaze without hesitation. "Because you're the son of the Fourth Hok—"
"Shut up!"
Both ANBU roared, their nerves snapping.
Duan's brows rose.
You dare raise your voice at me?
He drew in a deep breath — chakra gathering in his throat — and unleashed a single word that cracked through the street like thunder.
"ROLL!"
The air trembled. A shockwave exploded outward.
The roar struck like a physical force, laced with chakra and killing intent — a whistle technique that shook both body and soul.
The two ANBU were hurled backward, their masks fracturing, ears ringing, minds blank.
Boom! Boom!
The sound wave shattered the air.
Naruto stumbled too, falling onto his rear, wide-eyed and trembling.
Duan looked down at the boy, intending to finish his sentence—
"Enough, Duan."
Fugaku's voice cut in, low and strained. His eyes begged him to stop — they couldn't afford to jeopardize the meeting now.
Duan exhaled, then turned away.
The three Uchiha left together.
---
Behind them, Naruto stared at their retreating figures in awe.
"Mr. Duan… he's amazing. He shouted once, and those guys flew! Way cooler than my teachers at the academy!"
His young heart thudded with excitement.
The two ANBU slowly pushed themselves up, their masks cracked, eardrums ringing, minds spinning.
They exchanged a horrified glance.
Then—without a word—they vanished.
Naruto blinked in confusion.
"Huh? Weird…"
Scratching his head, he adjusted his backpack and jogged off toward the academy, humming under his breath.
