Chapter 8 - A Cheating Lover

Damien only nodded slightly in acknowledgement before saying to Rin, "You can leave."

Cass stared at that stupid traitor Rin, who didn't even glance back as he hurriedly got to his feet and exited, leaving him alone with this terrifying man.

Fuck.

Now that Rin was gone, it was just the two of them in the room. Cass turned to Damien fully, catching his features. Dark, short hair fell loosely to the side of his face, framing sharp, commanding features. His dark red eyes screamed danger, piercing and calculating. His face was everything the term "handsome" could ever encapsulate like a demon banished from heaven for being too perfect.

Cass's gaze trailed lower. He caught a glimpse of the tattoo on Damien's chest, partially exposed beneath his clothing. Fuck… this male lead was not only beautiful, but his presence was intoxicating—dark, alluring, and undeniably dangerous.

And although he didn't want to admit it he was sexy and hot as hell.

Cass's brain scrambled. What the hell are you thinking, Cass? Ogling over a man? Not only that but Damien? The fucking male lead?

"Is the view enough for you, or should I strip naked so you get a better look?" Damien's voice cut through Cass's thoughts, sarcastic and teasing.

Cass snapped out of it immediately. This damned bastard had no right to be cocky, but the knowledge that Damien had caught him staring made him flush with embarrassment. He composed himself.

"So… what do I owe this visit from Alpha Damien, huh?" he asked, trying to steady his voice.

Damien only shrugged. "Is that question of yours supposed to be a question?"

"Huh?" Cass asked, confused.

Damien merely grinned, stepping closer. The air around him thickened with his intoxicating scent and pheromones that made Cass's head spin, confused and utterly dazed.

Fvck what the hell was wrong with his traitorous body today?

"Of course I had to come see the so-called lover I didn't even know I had," Damien said, voice low, smooth, teasing.

"Well, I'm not your lover," Cass shot back immediately.

Damien flinched slightly. "Well, the rumors say otherwise."

"Rumors aren't true," Cass retorted, trying to hold his ground.

Damien scoffed. "Says the one who started the rumors."

Cass froze. This wasn't the male lead he knew from the book. The Damien he read was gentle, kind, patient. Not cold, arrogant, and dangerously cocky like this. And for the first time ever Cass had no witty retort. No clever comeback. He just… stared in daze.

But Damien didn't stop. "You started rumors about us dating… but still dared to sleep around?"

"You mean…?" Cass asked, needing clarity, already knowing where this was headed. He blamed no one but the original Cass and the author for digging this pit for him.

"The reason you're hospitalized," Damien continued, his voice sharp, "is because you tried to rape someone. I wouldn't care—but you can't do that when everyone thinks we're lovers. It's a stain on my reputation."

"What reputation?" Cass blurted, incredulous. "As far as I know, you're a high-ranking alpha who doesn't care about anything least of all reputation. Are you serious?"

Clearing his throat he continued "And plus if you choose to believe what was said without hearing from me, then so fucking be it."

Damien's smile turned slow and deliberate. "Why wouldn't I listen to my lover's side of the story? Hmm? Go on, then."

Cass swallowed hard. "…First of all, I didn't try to rape anyone. It was the exact opposite they tried to rape me and secondly… I'm not your lover."

He didn't want prolonged exposure to this male lead. He didn't want the original plot to happen but why did fate seem so determined to crush him here and now?

Damien's gaze darkened. "Let's say I believe you this time. The last time you were hospitalized after being ambushed by some people it's still the opposite, huh? You going out to sleep with someone… still the opposite? How do you explain that?"

Cass wanted to scream. How the hell do you explain that?! Plus how did Damien know about that when he wasn't around during that time, had he been keeping tabs on him? "I… I don't care if you believe me or not! I really don't need support or whatever from a cocky bastard Alpha like you. It doesn't matter!"

He froze immediately. Fuck… this stubborn mouth of his. Why couldn't he control it? He knew how dangerous this Alpha was. Going against him—disrespecting him—meant trouble. And he had just done it.

Sure enough… Damien's once-grinning face turned cold, serious. "What did you just say?"

Cass's heart froze. For the first time since transmigrating into this novel, fear gripped him fully. God… this man's aura was intoxicating, oppressive, commanding. His mind scrambled for a way to calm the situation.

"I… I didn't—"

Before he could finish, Damien cursed under his breath. "Fuck!"

In a blink, Damien was mere inches from him, leaning close, his head near Cass's neck, as if inhaling something only he could sense.

What the hell is wrong with this bastard? Cass thought frantically, about to push him away, when Damien stepped back on his own, his usual smug grin plastered across his face.

"Are you trying to seduce me?" Damien asked.

Cass glared. "Seduce you… how?"

He didn't answer. Instead:

"You're lucky you're hospitalized. If not, I'd have taken your invite and fucked you right here, right now. The next time you try to seduce me with your Omega pheromones, I swear I won't hesitate."

Cass felt a flush of panic. His pheromones… they must have gone out of control when he got nervous. How could he explain that he still didn't know how to control his pheromones and it leaking wasn't intentional without sounding suspicious? So he gave up. Damien could think whatever he wanted.

"They definitely won't be a next time," he muttered.

Damien scoffed. "Of course there'll be a next time."

"Why?" Cass snapped, exasperated by the confidence in his tone.

"We're lovers, aren't we? So why wouldn't there be a next time?"

"For goodness' sake!! I said I'm not your lover! Whatever happened with the rumors was a big misunderstanding!" Cass yelled.

Damien nodded casually. "Good, you know. But others don't."

"So?"

"Until you find a way to dissolve the rumors, you have no right to argue."

Cass bit back a retort. Who was he to order him around?

Damien, unfazed, continued, his voice lower and sharper: "That brings me to why I came here officially. Those rumors you started—you have to stop them as soon as possible. I don't care how you do it, just make sure my name isn't tarnished in the process. And if you fail… be ready to face the consequences."
