The wind carried ash across the barren battlefield, and the air, though still heavy with divine flame, now quivered under a new pressure.
Xiao Yan stood motionless. His nine flame wings slowly folded behind him. Yao Lao's voice came low and grave.
> "That laugh… I've heard it once before. Centuries ago, beyond the Void Abyss..."
Before he could finish, a vortex of blood-red lightning cracked open the sky.
From within it emerged a cloaked figure, wreathed in black and purple flame. His body was humanoid — yet twisted. His skin burned like dying embers, and his eyes… were hollow pits of endless hunger.
"Xiao Yan," the entity rasped. "The Flame God's inheritance belongs to me."
Xiao Yan narrowed his eyes. "Who are you?"
The figure raised a hand, and the flames around Xiao Yan flickered violently.
> "I am Xiu Mo, the first wielder of the Abyssal Flame. Once a Flame Sovereign… now reborn as Void Devourer."
Yao Lao gasped. "He's one of the lost flame cultivators… consumed by the Forbidden Flame!"
Suddenly, Xiu Mo clapped his hands together — the world darkened.
A Black Flame Vortex formed above, spiraling faster than space could hold. Every Heavenly Flame in the vicinity trembled, as if fearing annihilation.
