Chapter 10 - Hero x Vigilante [An Advent Of Calamity]

Chloe walked through the halls of the company, her heels clicking loudly against the floor with each step. She couldn't believe her ears, though it was the truth, it stung worse than a bee.

"How dare he..." While there was some truth to Shawn's words, she hadn't joined this line of work for fame. She never cared to be remembered as the one who stopped World War III, her only dream had been to protect the people of her city. But that vision was long lost the moment she joined the Titan Heroic Faction.

She arrived at her destination in the company, the ICT division. As she pushed the door open, every head turned toward her; chairs scraped back, and whispers flew across the room.

"Fucking hell..."

"Holy shit! It's Lady Impulse!"

"What is the most distinguished and popular superheroine doing in the ICT division of all places?"

They couldn't hide their excitement. Though they worked for the heroic faction, nearly half the staff had never seen their heroes in person, despite sharing the same building most of the time.

She made her way to a slightly chubby man in a white shirt, black tie, and black pants with glasses perched on his nose. Almost instantly, his fingers flew across the keyboard and his hand guided the mouse with practiced precision, all before she reached his desk.

A look of disgust swept away the anger from her face. She didn't need to guess why he had moved so quickly, people like him were the reason she despised the passion she had chased these past years.

To them, heroes were not just someone they could look up to, heroes were just a means of relieving their stress. They saw them as a neverending wanking essentials.

"Given how you abuse the company's Wi-Fi, are you in charge of the ICT division?" She went straight to the point, retaining the look of disgust she had against his actions.

"N-no... But I have access to several data." He stuttered, choosing his words carefully, after all his idol was in his presence, a sight he never thought he'd behold.

"Good enough, I need the data on the attempted robbery at East avenue docks."

"U-um, I'm not allowed to disclose such information without the appropriate permission."

Chloe sighed. She had known it wouldn't be as easy as she'd hoped to get the information she needed, but luckily for her, he handed her a trump card.

"Is that right? Mr... Williams." She leaned in, her eyes narrowing on the name tag pinned to his breast pocket, and stepped closer.

"Does the company know how you spend their WiFi? Watching explicit contents which goes directly against the organizations rules?" She guided the mouse towards his browser and opened up his search history and clicked.

"What the hell is this!?" She couldn't believe her virgin eyes, she was more shocked than confused, the size on the man, the hole he created, it was simply inhuman.

She glanced back at him, not in disgust, but in disbelief. Regardless of how mind-blowing it was, she had him dead to rights.

"Is this what you enjoy Williams? Well, I think the higher-ups are going to have a lot of time to decide how to deal with you."

"Wait wait, please, this job is all I have, I'll help you." Just as she turned to leave, his voice called her back, laced with helpless pleas.

"Tell me about the attempted robbery at East avenue docks." She asked again.

"Okay okay." His fingers flew across the keyboard, punching several keys and in the blink of an eye, he accessed Titan's Tech mainframe.

"There were three robbers in question, attempting to steal a van, or rather the contents of the van and was stopped by the masked vigilante."

"What were the contents of the van?"

"I don't know, the data is restricted even to me, all data about the shippings at that specific docks is restricted."

"Restricted? I see, whatever's down at that dock is extremely important."

"Most likely, and look at the van, it belongs to Nex Industries."

"Nex Industries?" She lifted her head in mild shock. Nex Industries was among the top companies, rivaling even Titan's tech, renowned for their cutting-edge advancements. If robbers were targeting them, it could only mean trouble.

"That means, whatever it is they tried to steal is definitely important, and they'll be back. And I'll be there to stop them."

Back at school, classes had yet to begin, and Mason had searched every corner for Vanessa, but she was nowhere to be found.

"I haven't been able to reach her since yesterday and it's unlike Vanessa to skip school, where is she."

[Master.]

As he pondered the future of their relationship, a soft blue panel flickered to life above his wristwatch. Without hesitation, Mason pressed his palm to the touch display and darted into an empty classroom.

"Shit! H.A.V.A, you shouldn't randomly just pop up when I'm in a crowd! What are you trying to do by calling me master when I'm surrounded by people!?"

[This is the only means of communicating with you master.]

"Still! Popping up as panel is over killing it."

[Understood, would you like to link me to your mobile device? That way we can communicate more efficiently and less advancely.]

"Wait, you can actually do that?"

[Yes master.]

"Fine, let's go with that."

[Uploading.....]

[Upload successfully!]

His phone screen flickered to life as the inscriptions [H.A.V.A] took over his wallpaper, in a matter of seconds, it returned back to normal before an SMS popped up.

[Is this better master?]

"Yes, much better, now what is it?"

[I'm detecting a rapid rise in the temperature of the waters of the East Bay Avenue, most likely from the core that was dropped into it.]

"Okay... What's that got to do with me?"

[The more the power source is sperated from it's reactor which is most likely the van they planned on hijacking, it will go critical, resulting in an explosion that will level a continent.]

"Oh... Fuck." He completely forgot about the life threatening power source that the hijackers foolishly dropped into the ocean. "That means I'll have to retrieve it? What a pain."
