I'm here today to officially announce which fanfic won the community vote.
But before we get to that, I need to remind everyone of something I mentioned earlier: this is exam week at my college, so for now, my main focus has to be on studying.
Still, even with the academic chaos, I can confirm that later this week I'll be releasing the first chapter of the new project. I won't leave you waiting too long.
That said… let's look at the results!
Jujutsu Kaisen: Blood and Vows — 1 vote
Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Card's Souls — 1 vote
My Hero Academia: The Strongest Quirkless — 2 votes
As you can see, we had only a handful of votes during this week of voting. I could leave the poll open longer… I could. But I don't want to keep you all waiting.
A round of applause for My Hero Academia-
WAIT! WAIT! WAIT!
I'm sorry to interrupt, but we have some final considerations to take into account!
As I explained in the previous chapter when I announced the vote, all votes were supposed to be cast in the paragraph containing the titles, by commenting directly on the names of the works.
However, unfortunately for readers who were hoping to see MHA win but chose not to vote, the two people who did vote for MHA submitted their votes through comments on the chapter itself — not in the designated voting area.
I know, I know — some of you are probably yelling at me right now — but think about it: just like you can't write the name of your candidate on the voting machine screen during an election and expect it to count, I can't count votes submitted in the wrong place.
To Ledif and Collin_Newton_5140: I'm really sorry. But if you read enough to choose your favorite, then you also saw where to vote.
With that said… we're now down to Jujutsu Kaisen and Yu-Gi-Oh GX, each with one vote.
Regarding these votes… it's a tough decision to make, but I have to accept the results as they are.
As I mentioned before, Jujutsu Kaisen: Blood and Vows was my personal favorite. If no one had voted for anything, that's the one I would've written — so I cast my own vote for it.
However, since other people voted as well, I have to disregard my own vote. That leaves Jujutsu Kaisen: Blood and Vows with zero votes, officially removing it from the competition.
With both contenders eliminated by circumstance, only one title remains — and for those who were rooting for it, you can thank Mathew_Salas_8462, who not only cast the sole valid vote, but also left a comment explaining how much he loves Yu-Gi-Oh and how excited he was to see what I could do with the idea.
So without further delay, the winner is…
Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Card's Souls!
A round of applause for our champion 👏👏👏
Only two months remain before the Fanfic Fiesta event comes to an end. I already started at a disadvantage since I joined a month late, so I'm counting on your full support for us to climb as high as we can — if I can at least reach the top 10, that would already be a huge achievement for me.
Now that we have a winning project, there are a few things I need to explain.
I have to admit: among the options, Yu-Gi-Oh GX was the one I liked the least — not because it's worse than the others, but because Yu-Gi-Oh itself is an extremely complex game.
The turn system has multiple phases, with effects that only activate at specific moments. The duels rely heavily on strategy, planning, and that mix of luck and forced misfortune the series is famous for. Not to mention that the main characters' decks are very specific, and it's hard to find sources that clearly list every card they used and what was available during the GX era.
Oh, and as you may have guessed, I'm calling the story Yu-Gi-Oh GX for a reason — I won't be including any mechanics introduced in later series, such as Synchro, Pendulum, etc. Though I do have an idea in mind in case something like that becomes relevant.
I'm going to do my best to create something faithful to the original in terms of game accuracy, but I'll also add my own touch by expanding certain aspects of the world.
But I won't take up more of your time with explanations.
Thank you all so much for your attention, and see you next time.
