Chapter 3 - Chapter 3:Path forward

The sun's light shone through the trees' leaves, thin beams cutting down through the green canopy and scattering across the ground in shifting patterns. Dust motes floated lazily in the air, dancing in the golden rays. The cool scent of moss and damp earth filled the forest, the rustling of leaves mixing with the faint chirps of distant birds.

In the middle of a small clearing, I stood — rather tall for my age, around six foot two inches, lean but strong, my muscles defined from years of constant training. With my shirt off, each movement made the lines of my abs shift, a result of relentless discipline and a stubborn refusal to waste time. In my hand, a greatsword spun through the air. I gripped it easily with one arm, the weight nothing but an extension of my will — a testament to my strength and endurance. The blade whistled as I swung, the sound sharp in the quiet forest.

Then, a flicker in the air.

A holographic screen appeared in front of me, its faint glow illuminating the sweat on my face.

[Quest completed: Type – Daily (Optional)

Details: Train with the sword for three hours

Reward: 300 system points, 1 silver, 1 status point]

"It has been six years since my arrival in this world," I thought, lowering my sword. I slid it into my inventory with a flick of my wrist, the familiar shimmer swallowing the weapon from sight.

Those six years… the early months were the hardest. The place I had been reborn into — Valden — was not kind to the weak. The first ten months, I barely survived. An elderly couple gave me some warmth and the barest substance to live on, but it wasn't enough to build my body properly. Food was scarce, my frame thin, and every day was a test of endurance.

From bits of overheard talk and my own quiet observation, I learned the location of three orphanages in the town. I decided not to step foot in any of them. The reason was simple — I had a mana core. Even if I could somehow hide this fact, orphanages restricted movement, and for the most optimal growth, I needed freedom.

So I left.

The forests near Valden held some dangers, but from my gathered information, there were few mana beasts in these parts, and the ones that existed were weak. I packed what little I had and slipped into the trees. My body was frail back then; every step was slow. It took me three weeks to find an empty cave deep enough to be hidden from casual travelers.

I remember the cold, the hunger, the quiet ache in my limbs. But I also remember the moment I used the system's store for the first time, purchasing just enough tools, rations, and simple items to survive. Slowly, I made that cave a home — a bed from bundled cloth, a crude table, stone walls lined with faint glowing moss I'd cultivated for light.

The store… it offered everything. Traits, skills, weapons, magic items, special tools — anything, as long as you had the points Anything even the void can be bought,That was the store's motto. I learned it by heart.

So my routine formed. Wake up early, complete the basic chores of keeping the cave livable, then train. Every day, the system gave me quests: swing my sword a set number of times, gather mana for an hour, run a distance, cast a spell. Each quest brought in points — just enough to sustain myself and save a little for the future.

My core had grown steadily. Now it stood at the peak of Red Stage, Light Stage. My skills had risen too, many reaching beginner and intermediate ranks. Three new traits joined my list over the years — Sound Mind, Relentless, Heightened Mana Control — and then the one I valued most, the Sword Deity trait.

Mana manipulation was my strongest field. I could now cast spells seamlessly by drawing on the environment's mana, shaping it into form. Enhancing my body with that same mana? That was still out of reach. And while magic fascinated me, it was also the most difficult subject for me to truly master.

I had one unused trait cards in my inventory. Instead of enhancing my magical talent, I chose to invest in my swordsmanship. That decision shaped everything.

I had a plan: at twelve years old, I would enter Xyrus Academy. But before that, I needed four things. First, legal documents showing my age — the system could handle that. Second, capital. Xyrus Academy wasn't cheap; I'd need a place to live in the city. Third, I needed to grow stronger. Training alone had reached its limit — real combat was the key now. Finally, influence. The system had revealed a special route to nobility: achieve at least S+ rank, gather an ungodly amount of capital, and secure letters of introduction from several powerful figures.

Adventuring was the most efficient way to accomplish all of it.

I called up two of my system screens.

I couldn't help but smile at the numbers. They were far from what I aimed for, but compared to the boy I had been six years ago, they were a mountain above.

I opened the shop, scrolling through the magic and enchanted equipment section. Prices in the millions flashed past before I filtered them out. After five minutes, I found what I needed — gear that matched my goals. I bought it instantly, then added several sets of plain clothing for daily use.

The quick equip function wrapped me in my new armor. A mask appeared over my face, half-black, half-white — yin and yang. A long black coat with a hood settled around my shoulders, beneath it a black jersey and pants. My arms were covered by black armor reaching to the shoulders, and my feet slid into black boots that felt almost rubbery but gave a solid grip.

I turned to the cave — my home for six years. The furniture was already packed into my inventory. I stood there for a long moment, staring at the rough stone walls, the faint moss-light, the little marks scratched into the wall from my early training. Then I bowed low, a quiet farewell, before turning my back to it.

The forest gave way to the town. The air shifted from the earthy scent of leaves to the smells of bread, roasting meat, and the faint tang of horse manure. Voices rose and fell in the streets, merchants shouting their wares, children laughing, wheels rattling on cobblestone.

I moved quickly through the crowd, my masked face drawing a few curious glances. My destination was a blue-painted house — one I had visited many times before. I knocked, the sound dull against the wooden door, one hand resting in my pocket. A strange calm washed over me.

After a few moments, the door creaked open, revealing a man and woman. They looked older than I remembered — lines deepened, hair streaked with gray.

"Good afternoon, sir," I said, changing my voice with magic to sound older.

"Good day, sir. How may we help you?" the man asked, stepping in front of the woman, his tone sharp, guarded.

"There's no need to tense up," I replied, pulling a small pouch from my pocket — from my inventory, really. "A few years back, my younger brother went missing. During that time, he came here for food. Though I have him back now, I thought this was still needed."

The couple exchanged a glance. Tears welled in their eyes.

"Is the boy you speak of… blond hair, green eyes?" the man asked.

I nodded.

"Thank goodness… I thought he had passed after he vanished. I looked for him in every orphanage in this town but found nothing. I blamed myself — I saw my own missing child in him. That's why I could never truly turn him away. Now… now I can rest." His voice broke, tears running freely.

I placed the pouch — twelve gold coins — in his hand. Without another word, I turned away. Underneath the mask, my own eyes burned for reasons I didn't fully understand maby the time spent with him had left a soft spot in ny heart?maby i am simply the type to become sad for others who knew but.. .

I didn't look back.

At the teleportation gate, I paid the fee to telaport to the nearest gate to the Adventurer Guild t

Five silver coins. The gate shimmered, a swirling blue vortex of mana. Stepping into it, I left behind my first home and took my first real step towards my path forward.
