Chapter 3 - Unexpected Death

Silva and the party arrived at the gate. From a distance, he could see the swirling dark purple portal. A makeshift post was made around it, fairs in black uniform, the guild's emblem, and some large guns with them to add.

A lot of other parties were entering the gates, but unlike other gates, this was not much. Lewen led the group through the security checks; everyone showed their guild card.

When the guard saw Silva's rank, he frowned. "This is a D-ranked gate, kid, are you sure about this?" he asked. His tone wasn't hushed, and everyone near there heard.

Silva could hear the muffled laughter and giggles from the people around. He looked at the guard and swallowed hard, as if swallowing all he wanted to say.

"Yes, I'm sure," Silva said. He clenched his fist hard as he spoke every word.

"Fine," the man said and handed the card back to him. He took it and walked in. He looked up and saw his party looking at him; their faces said it all, they were pissed that he had wasted their time.

"Let's go," Lewen said.

They walked toward the gate and, without hesitation, walked in.

Silva was the last to enter. The inside smelt of moss and wet stone. It reached his nose before he could even fully walk through the gates.

A chill unlike anything he had felt before clung to his skin. It was at least five degrees inside. Riven looked around.

They were inside a building of some sort, stone brick walls dripping with water. The walls were very tall and the hallway was wide. He could barely see the ceiling as it was high up and shrouded in darkness.

There was a soft glow around which allowed them to see the place that they were walking in, and one thing was for sure, this place gave off a bad vibe from the looks, smell, and feeling.

Silva could see some small shattered bones littered across the floor. He could tell they were human of some kind. He swallowed hard and steadied himself. He had come this far and there was no way he was backing out at this moment.

"Sensor, better start sensing, we want to move fast," Lewen spoke, treating Silva like some sort of object rather than a person. Silva nodded in response, closed his eyes for a few seconds, and then opened them; his eyes had a soft glow to them now.

With that, they started walking through the hallway. They moved for three to five minutes before he finally sensed something.

"Something is coming, the corner from the left up ahead. It looks like some sort of dog," Silva gave the information that he had gotten.

That was the best his ability could do. Within a hundred-meter radius, he could spot anything and tell what it looked like, but that was all. He couldn't say the strength or the ability, nothing. That was one major factor that threw his ability into the lowest tier.

"Get ready to fight," Lewen said and pulled out his sword. "All supporters stand back." He gave his order quick, and when the creature showed up, they were ready.

It was some sort of black-fur wolf with glowing red eyes. They thought it was going to be easy, and at the start, it was. The wolf attacked; Lewen charged forward, slashing. The wolf leaped into the air, dodging.

Whoosh.

An arrow flew through the air and stabbed it in the shoulder and then exploded, destroying one arm of the wolf entirely. It collapsed to the ground.

"Nice work," Lewen said to the archers and rushed to finish off the wolf when suddenly, the wolf exploded in flames, blasting Lewen back.

Silva looked at the wolf, and he could sense the changes happening. The wolf was getting stronger, for the first time ever, his senses told him that the wolf was getting stronger.

"We have to run, we have to run now!" Silva yelled, but his words fell on deaf ears as the large man with the great sword rushed to finish the wolf.

His sword glowed bright red with power. "I'll take it down before it can use whatever attack it is preparing."

He lifted his glowing sword and was about to end the wolf when—

Slash, boom!

The wolf's paw moved so fast no eyes could follow. It slapped the head of the man clean off; it slammed into the wall and shattered, falling down with brain matter seeping out.

Blood sprayed out of the body of the man. It stood for a few seconds, then collapsed to the ground.

Everyone watched in horror, shaken to their core as they saw that death. And the wolf, it was no longer a wolf. It stood there, seven feet tall, hunched over in a humanoid form like a werewolf, covered in flames.

Everyone was frozen in fear, but the mark on Silva's arm let out a warm energy that somehow gave him the courage to move.

"We have to go!" he yelled as soon as he was free. His words seemed to snap everyone out. They got on their feet and ran in the direction that they came from; there was no battling that creature, they could all tell they would die in an instant.

"Roooooooaaaaar!" The wolf roared and stood there as if waiting for them to get a head start, and then it lunged forward in a chase.

Silva and the rest ran as fast as they could, in hopes that they would find the gate they came through, but to their shock, the gate had vanished.

Silva had to think fast. He used his sensing to check for any corner, any path, and he found one.

"Keep running, there is a corner ahead!" he yelled and continued to run until they came to a corner and saw a slightly opened door up ahead.

Without hesitation, they ran toward it. They could hear the wolf getting closer, so they tried their best to run faster, for the sake of their lives.
