The kiss went on longer than either of us expected. Rachel's breathing grew uneven against my mouth. She made a small, muffled sound but didn't pull away, instead pressing in even more firmly as if she couldn't bring herself to stop.
Only when she finally ran out of air did she break the kiss with a soft, gasping breath, her chest rising and falling quickly. A thin strand of saliva briefly connected our lips before it broke.
Rachel's face was flushed, eyes still wet with happy tears, and she looked a little dazed from the intensity of the kiss. Her voice came out breathless when she finally managed to speak again.
"Thank you… Thank you so much… No one has ever done something like this for me before…"
She stayed close, still holding onto me, as if letting go would make the moment disappear.
Suddenly, a loud voice called out from the direction of the camp.
"Dexter! Rachel! Where are you?!"
Rachel's eyes widened. A fresh blush spread across her cheeks as she quickly stepped back.
