The robotic female voice made my head throb. Old Zhao squinted at the holographic projection, a half-smoked cigarette dangling from his lips. "This address... North District Lab?"
I scanned the notes column—"Cargo: Your Life."
Xiao Zhou racked his shotgun with a click. "Du Qiang's remnants?"
"No." My fingers traced the gilded logo on the order. "Something more interesting—Lin Wei is alive."

The air vents reeked of formaldehyde and blood.
"Surprised?" Lin Wei's voice boomed from the overhead speakers. "You thought blowing up the missile silo meant victory?"
I kicked open the final airlock door—
An entire warehouse of mechanical prosthetics, their chests pulsing with the same blue cores as Du Qiang's.
Lin Wei's hologram flickered between the incubation tanks. "Zhou Pei'en's 'Nirvana Project' was never about destruction..." She snapped her fingers. "It was evolution."
Every prosthetic snapped open its eyes.
