Lady Selene stepped inside, her silk cloak brushing the floor. Her gaze swept over the tense faces in the hall before settling on Ruvan.
"What's the meaning of this commotion?" she asked.
Before Ruvan could answer, one of the guards burst through the side door, breathless. "There's something you need to see. Outside."
Ruvan followed the guard outside, Selene and Luna Maris close behind.
Barrels were overturned, a wooden bench splintered, and deep claw marks gouged the stone wall as though some struggle had taken place. But there was no blood, no scent, no sign of where anyone had gone.
Ruvan crouched, running his fingers along one of the claw marks. "Fresh," he muttered. "This happened not long ago."
He turned to Maris and Selene. "So you mind telling me what happened here."
Selene folded her arms. "Training."
"You must really think am an idiot."
Selene's expression didn't falter, though her eyes hardened. "What are you trying to say?"
