Chapter 39 - Chapter 39:The Truth He Hid

Ayra's fingers slipped off the doorknob.

"Zayn's… brother?" she asked, her voice barely audible.

He gave a soft smile. Older, taller, darker eyes than Zayn—like someone who had lived too many lives before twenty-five.

"You remember me, right? I used to walk him to school."

Ayra nodded slowly. "What are you doing here?"

"I came for Zayn," he said, then looked behind her into the quiet apartment. "But now I think… I need to talk to you first."

She stepped aside.

They sat on her couch.

The air felt thick, like the sky before a storm.

"I'll get to the point," he began. "You don't know who Zayn really is. Not all of him."

Ayra froze. "What are you saying? "

He leaned forward. "Zayn didn't just transfer here because of school. He left because of what happened in our old city. Something bad. Really bad."

Her breath hitched.

"He got into trouble with a group. Dangerous boys. He kept protecting this girl—his ex. It got out of hand."

Her eyes widened.

"One night, they threatened her. Zayn fought back. One of the boys ended up in the hospital. And even though Zayn was defending someone, he was blamed. Kicked out of school. Family reputation destroyed. We had to send him away."

Ayra's lips parted, trembling. "Why are you telling me this?"

"Because he's falling again. For you. And when Zayn falls, he doesn't stop. He'll burn himself for someone he loves."

Ayra blinked, heart thudding.

"But this time, I don't know if you'll save him… or break him worse."

There was silence.

Thunder rumbled outside like the sky was listening.

Ayra asked, "Why didn't he tell me?"

His brother looked at her for a long time.

"Because you're the only peace he has left."

And just like that, Ayra's world spun again.

Zayn wasn't just the mysterious boy with scars on his knuckles and silence in his eyes.

He was running.

And Cairo?

He wasn't chasing her.

He was chasing the pieces Zayn left behind
