Chapter 225 - 215

Chapter 215

Shiba Kūkaku, who was sitting on the side, said:

"Of course, because it was Yuta who provided you with the funds and the invisible cloak."

Lisa Yadomaru wilted like a frostbitten eggplant and lay on the "desk" in front of her.

It was called a desk, but in fact it was just a rectangle made of piled books.

Lisa even slept on that stack of books at night, hiding under a quilt and laughing secretly, sometimes drooling while looking at those little magazines of uncles she loved so much.

It was clear that someone like her, with her head full of indecent thoughts, would not have any business sense at all.

If not for Yuta looking after her, she probably would not even be able to afford so much reading material.

Sometimes when she read too much of those magazines, Lisa would glaze over completely, becoming dazed and giggling unconsciously, drool slipping from the corner of her mouth...

"Work hard for your grand plan of building your own house in Rukongai," Yuta said casually, calling her the "best employee" before leaving.

The Third Division.

After Ūkitenbō Rōjūrō recovered from his injuries, he wandered through the Seireitei and subconsciously found himself walking toward the Third Division's barracks.

It seemed that people always had the habit of returning home.

Looking at the familiar buildings, the grass, and the trees, he felt that while everything had changed over the span of more than a hundred years, it still held the same familiarity in his eyes. It was almost as if he could still see the steps and the wooden pillars from that era long ago.

Now the steps had been replaced with new ones, and the wooden pillars were smoothed and polished from years of being touched by division members. Yet more than a century ago, that very pillar had been constructed by his own hands together with his subordinates.

Every brick and every tile here was saturated with his memories.

He couldn't help but think of his former subordinates who had left the Third Division over a hundred years ago without saying goodbye. What had been going through their hearts at that time?

The thought made him ache inside.

Perhaps because he was a natural musician, inspiration only made him hum softly to himself without realizing it.

Kira Izuru stopped when he heard the sound of singing. The Soul Society now acknowledged the true identity of the Visoreds, knowing it had been a misjudgment of the Central 46 more than a century ago, and their charges had long since been cleared.

Rose became excited as he entered the old VIP room. He pressed his hand against the corner of the room and poured his reiatsu into the wall. A brick shifted and slid open, revealing a violin hidden within.

Izuru's eyes widened in surprise when he saw the mechanism. It was clearly a device that recognized spiritual pressure-one that would only respond to a specific person.

That had been because Rose's former lieutenant more than a century ago had been an elderly woman who used to hide his instruments whenever he neglected his duties for music. To prevent that, Rose had asked Urahara Kisuke to make a spiritual-pressure recognition lock, like a safe that only he could open, and he had hidden his instruments inside. Unexpectedly, it had remained unopened for over a hundred years until this very moment.

"Let me take care of the background music," Rose said with a faint smile.

Izuru sighed softly and looked helplessly at his captain as he immersed himself in the music again.

Later, Rose even began to plan forming a symphony orchestra within the Soul Society itself.

First Division Barracks.

"Old man Yama, you really don't need treatment for your arm?" Yuta scratched his ear idly, glancing at the severed arm of Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni.

Yamamoto blew out his beard in irritation, slammed his cane heavily against the ground, and barked:

"You're already a captain, so why can't you carry yourself properly?"

"Hi, hi," Yuta replied casually.

Yamamoto let out a long sigh. He didn't particularly care anymore about his arm being treated. What weighed on him more was the thought of Yuta's role in the Gotei 13.

If Yuta would reliably serve as a captain, Yamamoto felt he could finally retire in peace.

"Do you want to be the Captain-General?" the old man asked.

"Captain-General?" Yuta scoffed, his tone dismissive. "Doesn't suit me."

"You brat!" Yamamoto raised his cane to strike him. "Do you think being the Captain-General is child's play? There are those who would give everything to be captain, but when it's handed to you outright, you refuse?!"

But looking at Yuta's figure retreat as he ran off, Yamamoto slowly lowered his cane again. His body was too old to keep up anymore.

Yuta's strength was beyond doubt, but what unsettled Yamamoto was the constant sense that Yuta was detached from everyone else-as if he were always apart from the Soul Society itself.

He believed firmly that the number of times Yuta would involve himself in Soul Society's affairs was limited, and that his help should be reserved for greater purposes, not for something trivial like healing an old man's arm.

---

Behind the Kidōshū residence, Matsumoto Rangiku was crouched over the soil, tending to a patch of sweet potatoes she had planted.

Since Yuta liked roasted sweet potatoes, she had secretly cultivated them here.

At this time, Rangiku's hair had also been cut short.

Much like Kuchiki Rukia's, Rangiku's hair was trimmed by Yuta himself. Under the warm sun that day, she had approached him eagerly and said with sparkling eyes:

"Yuta, I want to cut my hair short too! Rukia looks so good after she cut hers!"

Yuta had chuckled, patting her head before granting her wish.

That evening, she seemed eager to present him with a surprise. Blindfolding him carefully, Rangiku returned with a plate in her hands and said with excitement:

"Dang dang dang! Look at this!"

Yuta had already caught the familiar fragrance of roasted sweet potatoes.

"This is... roasted sweet potato?" he asked, removing the blindfold.

Kuchiki Rukia answered with a smile:

"Yes. Rangiku grew a whole field of them in secret after learning you liked them. She wanted to keep it hidden just to surprise you."

Yuta looked at the roasted sweet potatoes and fell quiet for a moment.

Back in the living world, he had never liked sweet potatoes. He even disliked them. But his family had loved to eat them. After coming to Soul Society, the faint aroma of roasted sweet potatoes often came back to him in memories that felt bittersweet.

He peeled one slowly and took a bite. Though a little dry and lacking moisture, it warmed his chest and felt sweet in his heart.

Two years later. (T/N: i think the last couple of chapters was just a recap of the 2 years before the timeskip, i'm referring to chapter 210 which there are also a 2 year timeskip..)

Yuta and Rangiku sat together in front of the sweet potato field, looking at how it had grown from a small crop into a flourishing harvest that spread across the land before them.

On a bench, Matsumoto leaned her body against Yuta's side, hugging him close.

In the two years that had passed, her figure had matured further, her body pressing softly against his arm.

"Yuta... why haven't we had a child after two years?" Rangiku asked softly, resting her hand gently on her stomach with a look of quiet doubt. "There's still no sign at all..."

Perhaps it was because of Yuta's spiritual pressure being too immense, making the chance of conceiving far less likely.

"Then how about we try harder?" Yuta murmured quietly as he kissed her forehead.

"Okay," Rangiku answered with a faint smile in her eyes.

Yuta lifted her up in his arms and carried her inside the house.
