Chapter 39 - "Asia and the Fallen Angel"

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

1:00 PM

Edger returned home to the main world.

The whole villa was empty—Shiho Miyano and the others were obviously out.

"Hmm?"

He glanced at the date, and his eyes flickered slightly.

There was a time discrepancy.

Time in the main world clearly passed slower than in the Akame ga Kill world.

Well, they were two different worlds after all—this was normal.

Edger headed back to his room and began using the demon summoning contract he had in the Akame ga Kill world as a coordinate to construct a teleportation magic circle.

This way, as long as he agreed, his subordinates could freely travel between the two worlds.

Buzz!

Just as he finished and was about to contact Shiho and the others, a strange ripple caught his attention.

"Someone's setting up an expulsion barrier?"

Edger raised an eyebrow, the corner of his mouth curling into an amused grin.

"And it's not magic power… it's the power of light?"

"An exorcist? Or maybe a fallen angel? If it's those few like Raynare… even better."

Freshly back and already running into something like this.

What luck—couldn't block it even if he wanted to.

His figure blurred—then vanished from the room.

Tap tap tap!

The deserted street echoed with nothing but the sound of frantic footsteps.

"God, please protect me…"

Asia muttered a prayer while running for her life.

But her pace was slowing down, her once-pristine white nun's outfit now covered in dirt.

Her heart was sinking into despair.

Am I really going to die?

She could still feel the fallen angel behind her—she hadn't shaken them off at all.

Her pursuer was obviously savoring the thrill of chasing prey.

But what else could she do? Other than run, she had no choice.

Smack!

Her foot caught on something and she stumbled hard, completely losing her balance.

Is this it?

The thought filled her mind.

But—

The pain she expected never came. Instead, she found herself falling into a warm embrace.

Who…?

Asia looked up and saw a strikingly handsome face.

"Looks like you could use a little help," Edger said gently, helping her to her feet.

Asia Argento.

Heh—looked like he'd hit the jackpot.

Noticing the faint glow of a demon contract, Edger's lips curved into a smile.

"Th-thank you," Asia stammered instinctively, then quickly said, "You need to run! This place is dangerous!"

She knew how fallen angels worked—if this handsome stranger got involved, he'd almost certainly die.

If she died, fine—but she couldn't drag someone else down with her.

"Don't worry. I'm really strong," Edger said, ruffling her hair with a smile. "No matter what kind of trouble it is, I can handle it."

"Y-you don't get it! That fallen angel behind me is something out of mythology!"

"So what?"

"You—you… I'm not joking!" Asia's voice was almost trembling with frustration.

Could this guy even understand what she was saying?

She knew that if you suddenly told a normal person "a fallen angel is chasing me," they'd probably just think you were insane.

"Relax. Even if it's a fallen angel, they can't hurt you while I'm here," Edger said seriously. "But in return… I want you to be mine."

"Huh?"

Asia froze—and then her face flushed red in an instant.

Was… was this a proposal?

Did this man just fall in love with her at first sight?

"N-no, wait, you have to listen to me—"

"No need for more words," Edger interrupted gently. "Just say yes."

"I… I'll agree," Asia said firmly, "But you have to run away with me!"

If he wouldn't listen, then at least she'd get him to move.

Such a kind soul, Edger thought, glancing at her before finally nodding.

"Alright. Let's run."

Asia grabbed his hand and had barely taken a few steps before a large man in a heavy coat and bowler hat appeared right in front of them.

She instinctively stepped back, giving a bitter smile. "Sorry… this is all my fault for dragging you into this."

"Don't worry. I've got this," Edger said warmly, still holding her hand.

Donasik: "…"

He twitched slightly at the corner of his mouth.

Seriously? In this situation, this guy was flirting?

But in the next moment, feeling the aura coming from Edger, Donasik's gaze went cold.

"I see… No wonder you could enter my expulsion barrier. You're a demon."

At those words, Asia's body trembled. "H-he's lying, right?"

"Nope." Edger grinned. "I really am a demon."

"W-what?!"

Asia went stiff, her voice cracking in near collapse.

"Why… why do things like this keep happening to me?"

She'd already had the worst luck—first, she was exiled from the Church for healing a demon.

Then, hunted by fallen angels.

And now… she was in the hands of a demon.

"Don't be afraid. I really don't mean you any harm," Edger said, patting her head. "If I wanted to hurt you, I'd have done it already, right?"

O-oh… that actually made sense.

Asia blinked.

Could it be… this was a good demon?

Her eyes began to light up with hope.

"You two—cut it out already!"

A vein throbbed on Donasik's forehead. "Do you think I'm invisible?!"

Boom!

The air exploded.

From Donasik's back, a pair of black wings unfurled, and he shot into the sky.

"A mere demon who dares to ignore me… You're looking for death."

Light flared in his hand, condensing into a spear of pure radiance—then he hurled it straight at Edgar.

Shhh!

The light spear tore through the air with a piercing shriek, leaving ripples visible to the naked eye.

"Watch out!"

Asia's face went pale, but she could only watch helplessly as the spear closed in on Edgar.

Then—her eyes went wide.

Bang!

With a dull thud, the light spear stopped—caught effortlessly by a single finger.

"..."
